My mom is going to chip in with dh and MIL to get me a serger for my bday.:cheer2: I still have a tight budget. What is a good, cheap serger? Something for $200 or less? Anyone buy the Juno one by Janome? It is on sale for $179 this weekend.

I am so excited for May. I whipped up 2.5 outfits already and I only made the reservations to go last week. My OCD is kicking in.

I cased this from ebay (I saw it last year sometime and loved it). I just need to ruffle the yellow strips and attach to the pants. I want to wait until closer to the trip in case someone has a growth spurt.

I am going to make a double layer twirl skirt in the blue stars fabric to go with this but I wanted to share because I am so proud of myself for how nice this looks. (And I ran out of yellow thread so I still have to satin stitch the yellow parts.)

Those are so cute. I love the Studios shirt. That is too clever.

We're back from our whirlwind weekend of racing. Jaz took 5th place!
She's the one in blue.

We've decided to travel to more races this year so we're going to postpone our disney trip this year to next year. Yes, I'm sad that we won't be going but I'm happy to be able to take Jaz more places to race.
Yay Jaz!!! How cool is she?

BRAG TIME!!!!!!

Katie placed 3rd in the school science fair and now she will compete in the district in one month! :cheer2: She is so excited and I am VERY proud of her.:cheer2:

Okay...brag over...back to your sewing...and back to my cleaning:crazy2:
Yay Katie!!! I love Science. What was her project on?

I got some material this weekend (I have not taken a pattern yet) for a "Belle" Dress for Megan for our trip to DL in May. Belle is her favorite princess.

So here is what I am thinking, let me know if you think this will work or not. I am not looking to make it an exact replica of Belle, more of the illusion of Belle. The material I have is all cotton. I have a cotton yellow/gold with large Roses on it (all in Gold Tones) and then a solid yellow/gold that matches the roses. For the top, I was thinking of doing a simplysweet jumper top with ruffled elastic straps. Then I was thinking of attaching a twirl scallopini skirt instead of the regular skirt to it. I figured I could gather around the waist instead of putting in the casing for the elastic. I was thinking I could finish off the whole thing with a sash around the waist. I was thinking I would do the straps, sash and the underlayer of the skirt in the solid gold and the bodice and top layer of the skirt in the rose patterned gold material. I was thinking of doing a single red rose applique on the bodice.

Okay, since a picture is worth a thousand words, here is what I am thinking of. Forgive my lack of artistic talent.

Is it sad that I started this post at 10am this morning. It is now 4:10pm and I am finally getting around to posting it. I've been in meetings since 10am today. And I wonder why I never get any work done.
I think that will be very cute.

I was going to look at the one at Walmart tomorrow...thanks!

I love the dress! I have that material and I just love how your dress turned out!

I finally got up the nerve to cut my fabric. It was so hard to decide what to do. I wanted dots and I wanted it bright but I didn't want too bright.

So here is what I finally had when I started.
SDC10539.jpg

I started cutting and Madilynn was sure to tell me just how it needed to be done :thumbsup2
SDC10540.jpg

Finally put her to bed and I started making progress. Sometimes she's just a little too much help ::yes::

Finally at midnight I had to put it aside. This morning I had more than enough help. Madilynn sat right next to me, making sure I wasn't mixing anything up.
Ryan was my pin removal boy. He loves that job :)

I can't wait for Madilynn to get home from school to see it :) Now I'm off to clean the upstairs before the kids get home. Then I'll reward my self with Carla's Flouncy skirt pattern to make Madilynn's Valentines skirt

That Minnie outfit is too cute, what pattern did you use for the top? Thanks!

Yeah Katie!!!!!:cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

I think it will be beautiful. Here is my take on casual all-cotton Belle (this was Lauren's Halloween costume):

I always love the custom casual princess dresses, this is adorable.

I used a modified pillowcase dress. Jham has made some like this, I just added another casing so there were two rows of elastic.

That skirt is too cute and I love that you have helpers. I have a little helper too. She likes to organize my scraps for me. Great score on the petti-skirt.

Okay, I think I am going to have to follow Jeanne and go into lurker mode! I get so caught up and then end up wanting to say something, but you can't just say something about one thing! So, lurker mode after this, atleast for a couple of days! :thumbsup2

You have mad skilz! I love your creative appliques. Where do you get your ideas from?

Wow, that is sooo organized. Will you come to my house?

Thank you! Most of my ideas come from disney pins I search for on ebay.

Um, my fabric happened to be organized at that time, thus the picture! If you saw my living room right now you would think a whole nother story! I am getting ready for a consignment sale and have about 100 things across it. I am not even sure where the floor is.

Love the Princess Leah! Okay, did I mess up the spelling on this? The crayon roll ups are great too, I've got to add that to my list of things to do for my girls. I wish I was as dedicated of a sewer as so many of you guys are. You "whip" things up so fast it amazes me. I feel like somedays it's a good thing that I get my :laundy: done, let alone sew anything!

And I LOVE LOVE LOVE the organized fabric. Everyone on here who has the nice organized fabric makes me so jealous! I don't have half the stash that most of you have although it is growing much to my DH's dismay;) . Your t-shirts are impressive too. I need to work on getting a craft room for myself, do you think I could talk my DH into letting me have the media room for myself? :rotfl2:

I always spell Leia, like a hawaiian lei I think, but I really have no idea if that is right! I only whip fast when I am in the mood. On princess Leia I made two. One day I cut everything, one day I washed the shirts and ironed them, the next I sewed and next mailed, so really 4 days for 2 shirts. Pretty bad! :confused3

I'm forcing myself into lurker mode to get stuff done (it's working) but I had to jump in and say I love it!  So does Jayden! :rolleyes1

Don't you wish we could arrange/organize our own smilies on the first page so we wouldn't have to go looking for our favorites? :thumbsup2

Glad you like it! The color was perfect! Thanks for saving me! :thumbsup2

I use the thumbsup most now since it is right on top!

How cool that you reconnected with someone who now shares the same interests.

Also, I love the organized shelfs. Wish mine looked like that.

I am so surprised at how much fun facebook has been!

I wish I have your applique skills! I am going to attempt some more applique on t-shirts for our next trip. Love the Nemo crayon rolls, and love how organized your fabric stash is! Mine is all over the place.

Thank you!

Whoo hoo! Congrats Katie!

Has anyone bought anything from Hancock's online lately? I ordered a few yards of something and the cost didn't come out of my account. So I sent them an email, and they haven't bothered to respond to that either. I was just wondering how anyone else has made out with them.

I ordered last week it has been taking about a week for my items to arrive, sometimes a couple of days longer, but no issues in the past month.

I am so excited for May. I whipped up 2.5 outfits already and I only made the reservations to go last week. My OCD is kicking in.

I LOVE the outfits! My favorite is using this page! It took me about two hours the other day to figure out where I knew this picture was! I don't have any of the star fabric though so mine won't be nearly as cool!

I love your applique work! Princess Leia is too cute. I am wondering if my kids would like the Star Wars movies. They liked the Star Tours ride we rode it for the first time on our most recent trip.

Your crayon roll ups are perfect!
I love your organized fabric and look at all those shirts!

Thanks! Dallas loved Star Wars before he had any idea what the movie was or that it existed. He had some Fisher Price toys like Rescue Heroes when he was real little, then the regular figures and some of the galactic heroes. He only ever saw a Star Wars movie last month, it was the 1st one ever made. He did love it though.

We're back from our whirlwind weekend of racing. Jaz took 5th place!

I LOVE how this turned out! Quite perfect! And what a steal from the store! She'll be so excited.

Dallas love to pin my stuff! He does like taking them out better then putting in.

Steph, I don't know where your quote went! I LOVED Magan's M2MG pants! I think it puts a nice spin on their outfits!

Okay, lurker mode now.

Snubie- LOVE the colors of the flag dress. I think they are perfect. :)

Jess- LOVE LOVE LOVE the shelves. I think they are so so so pretty. Minnie Leia is really cute too.

Lori- Adorable as usual. Jo Jo could not be any cuter.

Two other things.

1. We will be driving from Maryland to Orlando. I need suggestions for car activities. Everyone is so creative I would love to hear lots of ideas. The girls will be 2 1/2 and 5. It is about a 14/15 drive without traffic or stopping.

2. There is a new that will go into effect 2/10/09. Basically it is making it illegal for anyone to sell items intended for children 12 and under without expensive lead testing first. There are very strict rules, fines etc . . . Many many many mother owned and woman owned small business are in jeopardy due to these laws. There are many wonderful posters on this thread that will be greatly affected by these laws. Many designers that started making clothes for fun/hobby and now have turned their talent into family needed income. Anyway, there is group of ladies trying to take a stand. Here is a little info on the group.

http://www.boutiquecafe.com/home/tag/cpsia/

Thought everyone should know. I am really disappointed because I know of so many great designers that will be affected by this. Not only have they made cute stuff for my kids but . . . they are my friends.

You can also go to Etsy.com and there is some great information on there as well.

Here are some other helpful links to the "Consumer Product Safety Commision".

It appears that they are trying to make ammendments, but as it is currently written those of us that make custom clothing OOAK and sell in any fashion, will no longer be able to do so after February (can't remember the exact date) without incurring a huge cost in testing for each and every piece of material, thread, ect. that goes into the clothing.

Just wanted to notate...Here on the West Coast our Walmart T's are still $3.50. Still not bad!! But not a $1...I am so jealous!!

February 10th is the date the new laws begin. Hopefully there will be amendments made to save the boutique world. If you go to journalmodisite.com there are some good articles/info and more on what you can do.

Nothing really new, but here is Princess Leia on a really pretty blue!

103_9037.jpg

LOVE this on blue...wouldn't have thought of it but it's really gorgeous!

Thank you for reposting Jeanne's directions, I have never made one and am always trying to remember how she said to do it. Maybe I will be smart and bookmark it this time. I love the valentines one; it's adorable. Gosh she has a pretty smile!

You're welcome. Jeanne gave the best directions so I saved them. Even an idiot like me can follow them most of the time :rotfl2:

Lining up the pieces to decide what should go where.

WOW! Great job!!!
