Hi
I come here often to look at all the great stuff you guys make. I just started to sew last fall and my DD is turning 5 in february and wants an Hannah Montana b-day party so I decided to give a try at a skirt (and after looking at all the pretty stuff you all made) here is her skirt:
th_janvier2009017.jpg

She used to be very shy and since she discover Hannah last fall she's a totally different girl...
I couldn't belive how easy it was to make this skirt, now I can wait to make some more ;)

Love the skirt and I must say she has a fabulous pose!!!!

I wanted to put this in a post all it's own because it has been a very hard lesson for me to learn. This is only my opinion and we all have them, you may not agree and that is ok.

Giving, it is a selfless act of compassion and caring. When I give it comes with no terms and conditions. I can not expect anything in return. I must give from my heart and that is the reward. I don't expect a card, picture or post. I don't even look. Giving must be just for the reason of giving and nothing else.

I did get a thank you card for the ears and I was pleasantly surprised. It was how we were raised. Thank you notes for gifts, dinners, etc. But it is a thing of the past. I don't expect them but it was sure nice!

Giving with out any conditions at all can be so hard. I have seen gifts in the past get destroyed but I must remember that once it left my hands it is no longer mine and relinquish all care of said item. When I give, I must give with love and then what happens is up to the receipient.

I am honoured to be part of the Big Gives and I feel that I get more from them than the families. It encourages me to sew as best I can, be creative, and I am making new friends from asking for help. My family doesn't understand but they know when I sew for a Big Give I am happy.

I hope everyone continues to participate in this rewarding program.

Very beautifully and perfectly said!

big gives outfits
I decided to take the advise (sorry forgot who suggested it) and added the water effect to the shirt

I added this top for Megan... (I know shamu was not on her list of favorites but I thought that for the sea-world trip she could use it)

I usually like to have at least two outfits per child but I procrastinated too much with this give and really had no time:upsidedow so I decided to make extra iron on t shirts for the kids...

MENTAL NOTE: USE MIRROR IMAGE WHEN DOING IRON-ON TRANSFERS:sad2: :sad2: :sad2: :sad2: :sad2: :sad2:

I will tell you that I could have sewn at least two, three outfits in the same time that It took me to do the appliques and iron-ons !!!!:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

PS: Teresa...My give is in the mail!!!
Linnette

I was one of the people who said not to add anything to the outfit since it was for a boy but was I ever wrong. I love the water on the shirt! I think it totally makes the outfit! Great job as always Linnette!

Just wondering 'cause we hadn't heard from her in a few days, but Karen! Where are you? Just hoping that you are okay. It's not like you to stay away from us for so long!

LOVE the Hannah Montanna skirt - soooo adorable!!!! I have some of that material too - maybe I'll make a skirt too!!

Linette - the Shamu splash shirts are AWESOME!!! I'd wear one of those to Seaworld too!! THey are toooo coooooolllll!!!!!

So sorry Lydia and Megan are sick - hopefully they will get a good nights rest and feel a bit better in the morning.

Anyone know if there is Zebra or Cheetah ribbon out there?? I want to make bows for the girls Valentine outfits.....

My regular machine is working much better - I redid the bobbin, rethreaded, blew out the dust and put in a new needle!! and pixiedust: its working again!! YAY!!!! Thanks to all who helped me through that without a manual!! lol!!! I found out a sewing store not too far away is having a serger class - not till April, but i think I might take it.....thoughts?

Sleep Well everyone!!

Yes, there is zebra and cheetah ribbon. (We have both) I just saw some Zebra today at Joanns and I know I have seen them both at Walmart.

My DD9 said to me this Halloween, "Isn't it sad how some children have to buy their Halloween costumes because they don't have moms who will make them." At first I was like, "yea, real sad... those poor children (ha-ha)" but the more I thought about it the more I realized how much she appreciates what I do, even if its a lot of work. I'm sure your daughter's auntie feels the same way. Its something special she can do for her.

This made me laugh. poonpigletCA's girls won't wear store-bought costumes at all. And now, all of a sudden, my 3-yo twins won't either. They decided it's not a princess dress unless Auntie made it.

So we went and bought fabric. I won't be doing that again with Madilynn in tow. She would have bought the store LOL

We got it all washed and folded and now I just can't make up my mind.

These are the only dots they had.

I was disappointed in their selection. I went to the Super JoAnn's 30 mins away. I think I would have had better luck just going to the whole-in-the-wall JoAnn's in town. I wanted to tie the lime green into the skirt somehow. Any ideas? Here's the shirt again.

Hopefully I'll get some more made...
I found some lovely rhinestone iron ons of tink and minnie on etsy that I'm going to put on some shirts for her and I've got my bag to make...

Great stuff! Love the bag. I think the rhinestone iron-ons are a great idea for an older girl, too.

Great job on the cake. Her purse and dress are so cute. Happy Birthday!

Thanks! The cake was pretty fun to make. Well, it all was. At her age, all the sewing and things I do for her end up being more for me than for her. :)

Beautiful dress. Smocking just always looks so sweet on a little girl. I would love to learn how someday.

I love Ava's purse and dress. They turned out so cute.

Thank you!

Finished my latest Big Give outfit this afternoon.

That looks great!

Great shirts!

So cute! What fun!

Thank you!

Oh it all came out so cute. Little ones always seemt to love Marie. We do around here. I think DN is going to be Marie for Halloween! (just thinking ahead :rotfl2: )

Thank you! Marie would be such a cute costume. Go with it:thumbsup2

Great skirt! Your daughter sure doesn't look shy in the picture:rotfl: Isn't sewing a blast? Definitely make more!

I don't pretend to be an expert  , but people have suggested before to add ribbon, and that seems like a good idea, to me. Ribbon usually comes in so many colors. I'm sure you could find some lime green.

Hi-Long time lurker, first time poster. I've been reading this thread for about a year and you inspired me to start sewing in May. You guys all do such amazing work, with your talented sewing, with your big hearts with the big give, and with your great sense of community. So I'm finally making the leap and actually saying Hi instead of just lurking.
So for a first post-way too many pictures but I'm going to go for it while I have the nerve. Its pretty hard posting pictures after the beautiful stuff you guys post. (Plus its my first time trying to post pictures so we'll see how this goes)
Ok-no pictures-it didnt work. But I'll try again in the morning

My initial thought would be to add lime green kona cotton and add a strip of ric rac (or 3 or 4!). Ribbon is a great idea too!

just wanna let everyone know that im still alive. Havent posted much because I have been having some "problems" with one of my daughters. I still check in and quickly scan the boards...just don't have much time to post. I think of you often. Missing my "friends", Michelle :flower3:

Love the kitty purse and dress! Your daughter is just so stinkin' cute!

The teacher thinks part of it is that she and her friend are sitting across from a couple of older and more experienced girls. They can talk and sew, but dd & her friend (also a new sewer) need to be able to concentrate more. Dd loves the socialization part! ;)

Your daughter sounds like mine! I'm glad she is enjoying the class, it's nice she can take it with a friend.

Love the stuff you made last year, but that bag is to die for! It is so cute and I could many an adult wanting one too.

Wow, this is gorgeous! It's nice when they can get more than one year's worth of wear out of something so beautiful and cherished.

That is so cute, I have always loved that Ariel fabric. Can't wait to see the Valentine's outfit, as long as you can get her dressed!

I used to be an avid scrapbooker until I found this thread and now I just sew, sew, sew! Your daughter is beautiful (I am partial to Megans) and the shirts you made for her are adorable.

I was going to tell you before but I forgot that I have found less is more with boy stuff, at least with my boy, but the water splashes are perfect! How sweet of you to make a matching shirt for the sister.

The first thing I made when I found this thread is a twirl skirt, very good choice! Your daughter is so sassy and cute and you did a great job on her new skirt. Can't see what else you make!

Yay! I didn't use my serger until I took a class, so I would definitely recommend it. It's too bad you have to wait until April. Did your serger come with dvd instructions? Maybe you can watch them until the class?

Welcome! I hope you can get the pictures figured out.

I feel so badly for those with sick kids! I am so lucky that mine are hardly ever sick, they must have their dad's genes. Hope everyone is feeling better soon!
