I am so sorry I am missing you. I just got a lovely PM from another Diser and I am missing her too. So sad really! I would love to CASE your flower idea, but I am not going to ask permission to. Here is why...I can't sew very well, and I definately can't applique, and NO WAY would I try a Vida...so you are safe. Now if you want to LOAN it to me...you know since we are missing each other...i"ll take it!
First, the Vida is not hard at all. It is quite simple.
Second, the applique was not all that complicated. Mickey Heads can be tricky but I am sure you could do it. Feel free to case the Mickey Head flowers.

I love all the cute pictures and the trip reports from your dis meet! The kids are so dang cute.

I did keep going today because I knew this was going to be a shirt that would take several tries. This is the very first one so I know it is bad. DH did print in reverse for me and I also need to fix a few things but Hunter is so sweet he just loves it.

I think this looks fabulous. I saw your post the other day with the image you were going to use and I though - WOW, she is brave.
I have a question for all of you Northerners!!!!

Yesterday in class it was pointed out to me that ironing clothes on a daily basis is a Southern thing. So my question is Do you people who were born and raised up north iron your clothes on a daily basis or just for special occasions?
Nope, do not iron everyday. I iron DH's button-down shirts if I HAVE to. I do iron when I sew though.
And I second the Downy Wrinkle Release! Amazing stuff.

Not a Northerner here (we're in the 'burbs of New Orleans), but I iron every day. I never thought people did anything different than that!

:rotfl: :rotfl2:

My Mom grew up in Northern Maine- not far from the Canada border...
She was a 4-Her (please tell me everyone knows what that is) She was very active in 4-H, So she made most of her clothes, was a beauty in the pagents and parades (Miss Potato Something her other....) and...
She entered competions at the county fairs for ironing!! I think it was part of what all the girls who sewed had to do. She still has all her pressing plates, and her ironing looks the same as the cleaners to this day.
My Grandmother and Great Grandmother iron Everything including boxers and sheets- nothing feels better when you are a sick kid!

I am not as dilligent as them- but I do still iron. My ironing board is already up constantly from all my sewing- so why not?
My MIL wears polyester and can't understand why people iron. She has told me at least twice "oh, you'll get tired of ironing" (I was upset his family was crunching up the dress Megan had on for her baby dedication) she happened to be sitting next to my Mom (who I instantly was very proud of who she was) and I said- I doubt it- my Mom never got tired of it- she even ironed our sheets!

I always iron the clothes that require it for Megan, although I have been known to wear a wrinkly shirt myself.

Hope you enjoyed that little family heritage tale of ironing! LOL!

We are in Maryland- Mason Dixon line. We iron clothes everyday. My girls wear customs or smocked clothing. Maybe I have more of a Southern style of dressing my children but we do not "do" wrinkles! LOL

Shhhh...keep this a secret..but are you like me, when you see kids wearing sweats or wrinkly clothes out in public and think...either Mom is having a bad day or she just doesnt help her kids get dressed??
I do not understand frumpy kids. You do not have to have any money to have your kids looking "smart"
I wish I lived in an area where everyone dressed their kids in customs or smocked clothes!! I bet your kids always look FAB-U-Loooooossss!!!

I find the ironing answers interesting. Around here it seems that everything gets ironed. You will actually see people walking around with ironed T-shirts, Jeans and everything else. I never really gave it much thought until one of my classmates mentioned it. He's from somewhere up north and said that his mom didn't iron anything, that they just pull it fresh from the dryer. I have to admit that I also do that, but if something is wrinkly I will iron it.

Jenna is the best dressed child in her school in my opinion. I think it is just because of the area that we live in, but even on picture day she is dressed to impress and the other kids seem to look like they just got ready to play outside.

I hate to iron so much that when living in Utah I gave my ironing board to DI. Now that I took up sewing I sure do miss my iron.

I iron for Church or when going somewhere special but for normal everyday, I have some spray wrinkle release.

I did have to iron the batik and most of Hunter's bowling shirts for school.

The only other time I remember ironing is when I was at WDW and was awake and bored and needed to find something quiet to do. Fogot how loud the board is when you open it!

That is hilarious!!!

...we got the dryer that has the "steam" option. We can now throw things in the dryer, push a little button, and it "mists" the clothes and they come out looking ironed. My family will be in shock. I don't believe in wrinkles, but don't believe in irons either, so this is a WONDERFUL invention. I'm pretty sure a woman invented this:)

OOOOH, can I come over and use your dryer??? That sounds so cool
!

I found it very interesting!!! I think 4-H is a nationwide thing, right? I assume it is anyway! I can say that I have never ironed a sheet, unless I was going to cut it up to make something out of!

just pull it fresh from the dryer. I have to admit that I also do that, but if something is wrinkly I will iron it.

Sounds like you have a little bit of Northerner in you after all Crystal! :thumbsup2

The Picture day talk reminds me, that the girls' school has planned Sprint Picture Day for ST. PATRICK'S DAY!! :confused3 I predict a LOT of GREEN outfits in the pictures!!! :rotfl2:

You have some of the most beautiful girls ever. I love those curls on both of your girls.

Hi! I was wondering how you were!! I love thos pictures, especially the kissing one and the petti ones! Your babies are getting bigger!!!

Adorable pics! I love the ones with the polka dot peasant top!

Thank you ladies!!!! I decided to make that brown polka dot outfit the night before the pics!!!! Thanks to CARLAC, I was able to do it in a couple of hours!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:yay: :yay: :yay:

I need a little advice.

I want to make a sundress just like one my DD already has.

2008_090808Disney0364.jpg

I found a pattern : NewLook 6688, that looks just like it, but

6688.jpg

When I go online & read reviews there are a few things they changed & I want to know if I make these cahnges do you think I will get the results I'm after.

1) eliminate side lap zipper > put in center back snaps

2) eliminate skirt lining & tulle ruffle > put boning in hem

(it gets very hot here -99+, a lined skirt w/itchy tulle won't get much wear, but I want the skirt to look full)

I want to make 2 of theses. One fabric is light cotton, but one if med/heavy.

Thank you!
Melani

Oh and George's grandma even irons sheets and underwear!!!! Ok she might not count even though she lives in NJ because she is originally from the Ukraine!

I iron sheets too! The way we make our beds the flat sheet goes face down and then folds over the comforter. It looks awful when the top is all wrinkly and bunched up. I have even been known to starch the top! :rotfl:

Thanks! I can tell you that I have never seen another child in a smocked dress in Maryland. Other than the Gris' daughter I do not know another of kid in MD that own smocked clothes. My Mom is from North Carolina and she was dressed in smocked clothing. That is how she dressed me in and I in turn dress my girls in smocking. LOL

I find most of their smocked dresses on ebay. We have one boutique in Annapolis that carried a few dresses and they are normally over $75. My oldest was excited to see other little girls in smocked bishops at WDW. She calls the bishops Sophee's dresses. (She was also three at the time. Time Flies!!)

Do not get me even started on some of the kids at preschool. I was looking at last years class picture and it is amazing. Some of the kids look like they have pjs on. I agree you do not have to have a lot of money to be presentable. Now, I know my girls have a flair for the dramatics so the are a little fancier. ;)

We went to a birthday party last weekend. There was one little girl that was in sweatpants, a long sleeve shirt that was way too short, purple socks and old sneakers. I was so upset because her mother works for a really good financial firm, had on nice clothes, carried a nice bag and even said to another mother . . . email me and I will have my assistant put it on my calendar.

Well I can tell you down here almost everybody dresses their children in that to go to church and as many as can afford it dress them that way for Mom' Day Out /Preschool even.

There are 6 boutiques in our little town alone that specialize in those types of clothes & they are VERY expensive. We even have 3 fabric stores (not counting JoAnns, Hancocks, Hobby Lobby or Walmart) that specialize in heirloom fabrics, notions, patterns, etc...

I cried when I found out our 3rd was going to be a girl because of this & the hair thing. I was a tomboy & a jock. I was so thankful when I had boys, boys are supposed to be a bit rough around the edges. Then came our surprise, Hazel. And she is every bit as froo-froo as her namesake. Apparently femininity skips a generation. She refuses to wear pants, changes her clothes 4x ady & wants to wear bows to bed!

See that bugs me to no end. I hate to see a child that is dressed worse than the parents. I have to admit that Jenna dresses better than me.

I am trying to not be offended by all the conversation about "smartly" dressed children. I am not winning that battle.
Lauren goes to preschool in leggings and tshirts or sweaters. She is there to play, run, jump, not for a fashion show. Her outfits are typically from Target or Childrens Place but she does have a few Gymboree outfits also. I will not send her to school in dresses/skirts because those are a little more dangerous on the bark mulch covered playground. Does she look clean and presentable? Yes, in my opinion she does.
Who are you to judge what I dress my child in?

Edited to add, there are days Lauren does not match. She may have on orange pants, pink shirt and green shoes. She picked it out herself so I will let her wear it as long as it is weather appropriate.

I've made this dress. I did line it, but only because the top layer was eyelet. I don't know how they took out the side zipper & made it snap in the back, but that would make it a lot easier to put on a squirmy little girl.

I did have to add a panel to the front because it was so low, I don't know if that was me or the pattern. I really liked how it turned out though.

Are you sure Hazel and Sophee are not the same little girl! :rotfl2: Sophee asks for bows first thing in the morning and sleeps with ballet slippers on at night. :)

Did you use a tulle ruffle?

I don't have children yet (just growing one) so you can take what I've got to say with a grain of salt.

I agree with dressing your child casually for preschool. It is a time to play and they will get dirty. I THINK that what the others were talking about was what children were wearing on picture day or to a party. Not sure if that makes a difference to you, but I thought that it made sense to dress them a little nicer for picture day or to go to a party - it is what my mom did with me. :goodvibes

Tinkerbell came to our house last night!! Tessa finally got her loose tooth out. She was hoping it would come out at Disney World so Tinkerbell could be her tooth fairy. But, I had a chat with Tinkerbell while we were there and she said she'd come to our house since Tessa's tooth was loose already at Disney. So, last night, she came and left a nice little note, some pixie dust, and $1 for Tessa.

How funny! I don't know which is funnier- that he wanted to tie his tooth to the cat, or that you actually caught the cat to do it! :lmao: Wait, is this a picture of the string tied to someoneone's mouth and Hunter's mouth at the same time? So funny!

All you gotta do is get the kids to ask him. You know he'll wear whatever they want him to!
Even that doesn't work for my husband!

I don't know how to multi-quote but thank you for all the nice comments about the dress.
There's a multi-quote tutorial in the very first post in this thread.

Wow, you've been sewing up a storm!! The AK outfits are my absolute favorite! I LOVE that fabric, and I love how you made it work! I think the mickey head on the back looks great as-is!

I have been lurking for awhile. Getting ideas for my mom who will be making some customs for our trip in May. Beautiful things. I also joined the Big Give website. Am not to crafty but can buy Pixie Dust like the best of them. Had to come out of lurkdom to tell Heather and Teresa how much I love ur trip reports.Just awesome!! We are going about the same time this year. And I have one that is about to turn 5. Heather, I have an issue with APA during pg. Has on Heparin for 16 weeks with my younger one. I really hope that my girls will be as close as you 2 are when they are older. Back to reading!!
Thanks so much for reading our TRs!! Wow, you have APA?? I PMed you!

Is it sacriliage to belong to these creative boards and only plan one custom outfit per day?
No! I only planned one outfit/day for my kids, plus one extra one/each, in case of an accident. Now that you have to pay for each bag, it's kind of limiting!

Stacey, that is SOOOOO cute!! I absolutely love the Mickey flowers!!! What a great idea!

Cute kitties, cute dog, and cute kiddo! I love the simply sweet dress!!

I almost divorced him on the spot, but figured it was too much of a hassle.QUOTE]
:rotfl2: :lmao:

I just got back at 1:30 this morning and am doing nothing I should be (unpacking, laundry, taking Seth to basketball) but I am uploading nearly 900 photos to the computer. I'm still trying to decide if I'll do a TR or not. I do have lots of customs I didn't have time to post photos of before I left though, so I'll try to get something into photobucket.
I'm glad you're back, I was missing you!

I want everyone to know that pictures really do not do Jeanne justice. She is absolutely gorgeous in person- no joking!

I love these pictures!!! Luke takes this boyfriend thing very seriously. It's so funny!

I can't see anything wrong with it at all! It looks wonderful!

So, did Luke and Tessa go to City Hall and get married while they were there?
NO!! But, I think they would have if we would have let them! :rotfl:

I have a few questions-when you make the T-Shirts with the Mickey Head out of fabric, Do you wash both the fabric and the T-Shirt first? Neither or just one?

I just finished making a dress for my niece. How do I go about posting a picture?

I used to always pre-wash my fabrics first, but I have stopped doing that all the time. If I'm putting a dark fabric onto a light shirt, I will wash the fabric first. I always wash the t-shirt first because they shrink.

There's a tutorial for posting pictures in the very first post in this thread.
