Cobbler, beer, wine, tasty hot apps and amazing views from a lounge with so much comfy seating. Just repeat that list to him and he'll be sold. Oh, and the "it's not that much more than a CV room" might work, too. Besides, it's 40% off. BTW, DH stayed for the first time at the OFC right after his deployment to AFG and it's still his favorite CL.

I thought DH was eligible for the military -40%? I assumed he was AD or RET -sorry I confused you back there.

I went ahead and did it anyway! I booked CL and put in a request for Room# 7127 and the CM put in about him coming home from Afghanistan, so maybe that will have some pixie dust effect

Now I'll just wait and see when the AP discounts come out. Looks like they are starting on the 16th of the month....so the next one looks like it should start Oct 16. I know the BC usually isn't included in the AP discounts, so that's ok we are only there for 3 days, but we would arrive at WL on the 17th. Crossing my fingers we can get a good deal! If not, oh well....we'll be at WL and WDW again

Oh and since you are in NoVA, you wanna pick me up on the way down? I can ride on the roof rack

I know many of you have been posting about the pool rehab that will start sept 4. I keep going back and forth about keeping our reservation 9/12-9/16. The first half of our trip will be 9/8-9/12 @AKV. The WL & WLV is our fave place to stay, but to not have the beautiful pool area will be sad. And the WLV pool is very small. Our back up would be royal room @ POR. Driving myself crazy on what to do. ...

Yes, the Archery Experience, I knew I forgot something. It was lots of fun, well run and very inexpensive. They even carried on in the rain.

That would be fun! We have not made it to TE yet so we must check our archery n the other things mentioned!

Interesting shirt. I have a framed and autographed photo of Harry in a similar pose from the 70's on my office wall. He was a friend of DH's family.

It occurs to me that I need to adjust our dates. We are arriving on November 29th now and staying through December 7th. We are now considering a split stay, though. My husband was the driving force behind the stay at WL, and he can only stay through December 3rd. My daughter doesn't love the theming at WL (it's very like our home area, so not at all vacation-y to her), so she would like to move to finish out our stay after his departure. I told her I am amenable to that decision *if* we go to AKL. I've never done a split stay. Is it a giant pain in the butt?

Hi everyone and thanks Kook for the new thread! We are planning a week next summer at WL or VWL. Is there any chance of getting a 2 BR villa in the summer months if we are not DVC? There are 5 of us so options are limited: villa or deluxe CL. I like both options but would love the space of the 2 BR (and the two bathrooms!). DH is retired military so we would love and be grateful if a military rate is is extended for next year. If not he has a family member who is a retired CM (we just don't like asking for a discount),

Sooo here are my questions:

1) any chance of a summer month 2BR villa?
2) are military rates allowed for deluxe CL or villas?
3) when should we book? We will book a room only and link military tickets later.
4) are friends/family discounts allowed on these types of rooms?

Thanks! We are so excited for next summer. We took a short Disney cruise in May and that is our vacation for the summer. Dh's job has him in class for most of the summer.

I don't think military rates are offered at the Disney resorts, but I could be wrong.
My best advice would be to rent points to get a 2 bedroom villa. It will be much cheaper. You can use a site like Davids DVC Rental....I've given him points to rent for me and it worked beautifully. The only issue with renting points is that your plans are now set in concrete...you can't change your mind, because the owner will lose those points if you cancel. But it's a nice way to get a really nice resort for a lesser pricetag. And you don't get daily housekeeping. You can try renting points about 11 months out from when you want to go.

We will be at WL the exact same dates and decided to stay put. We are doing a split stay too and figure we will leave most of our pool time for the other resort. Plus I'm hoping the lack of main pool will mean less people and more quiet for me ; )

Disney makes it easy to change resorts. If you won't have a car, you could either get a cab and go to AKL with your luggage and check in or you can have Disney transfer your luggage and go about your day and check in at AKL when you're ready. If you have Disney do the transfer, just take your luggage to bell services and tell them you are transferring to AKL. You will get a claim check with the number of bags you have and Disney will take care of everything from there. Keep in mind that luggage usually doesn't arrive at the second resort until around 1-3 pm, sometimes later depending on how busy they are. So if there is something you might need throughout the day, it's a good idea to keep that with you. Hope you have a great trip .

I can't answer about availability for a 2bdrm villa for summer or the friends/family discounts, but I'll try to help with the other 2 questions.

The military discount has been available on deluxe resorts/CL rooms (I'm not sure about villas). As with any other discount, not all resorts/room types are always included, so it depends on availability. You might have to be flexible with the resort, but if the military discount is extended, I don't think you would have trouble using it on a deluxe CL room. As far as when to book, that's a personal preference as some like to book right away when the new rates are released (which should sometime mid July) and some like to wait to see what discounts come out. If you will only go with a discount, it's sometimes better to wait until a discount comes out as the more rooms that are booked ahead of time, the less discounts there could be as Disney won't have as many rooms to fill. But, if you will go regardless of whether or not a discount comes out, I would book as soon as you can to make sure you get what you want. If/when a discount comes out for your dates, you can always modify your existing reservation by calling and having the discount applied (pending availability). HTH

Yes, family and friend discounts can be used on villas.

We are there 9/11-9/15 and really thought about switching to AKL. Not because of the lack of pool, but seeing construction on our beautiful, usually pristine WL! We officially have decided to stay put and both feel relieved we made that choice. See ya there!
