Since all CL rooms on the 7th floor have enclosed balconies, is it better to requests an inner CY view or a north wing view?
We really love the Inner CY view. You can watch the EWP and when you pull the curtains open in the morning, this is the first thing you see:
Just subscribed to this thread and caught up on the posts. Thank you for all the great information.
We stayed at VWL in 2012 for Thanksgiving week with the whole family (ages 7- 75) and absolutely loved it!!! It definitely became our favorite resort and the holiday decorations are just perfect. The canyon fireplace and national park theme inspired us to travel to the Grand Canyon this coming Thanksgiving and stay at the historic El Tovar on the south rim.
Where I am really looking forward to the Grand Canyon, I think I am the most excited that the family just decided T-day 2015 will be back at VWL, which will also be my 40th. I guess that officially makes me a crazy, obsessed Disney fan to look past GC to VWL. Oh well, I've accepted it and hope I have company here
Just DW, DD, and I leave for CBR in 18 days but I'm glad to know we have our next trip to WDW in the works. I hope they bring back the Osbourne Family Dancing Lights another year, my personal favorite.
Welcome! It's always great knowing when you can return to WDW. The OFDL is scheduled this year, so I'm sure it will be around in 2015 for your visit. Happy planning!
We received an official letter from Wilderness telling us that the main pool will be closed early September thru November. The quiet pool and hot tub will be open. We can use CR or FW pools during that time.
We are staying put and I think the CR pool slide looks like more fun for my DDs, 12 and 10. For us it's okay, but, like so many, I don't understand why they wouldn't do this during the winter months like the Water Parks are done.
Oh well, we love WL and look forward to our visit. It's been 5 years since we stayed there and the theming and boat to MK are our main reasons for coming back. Plus, DDs love a bunk bed room. That's why we like AKL rooms too!
I was told by a manager that all of the resort pools must have fences added and there aren't enough workers to complete all the projects during the low season. The work must be staggered and the WL permit expires at the end of the year so that's why the work is being completed in the Fall. The work was to start in the summer, but management was able to delay the start until after the summer school-aged crowds are gone.
Here is a copy of the letter for reference (credit to Tikiman via his Facebook page)...
Thank you for posting that. Another letter is supposed to go out that offers guests a one-day water park pass with transportation.
We are returning to the WL in two weeks

! Does anyone know if the screening will be down around the creek?
As of 3 July, painting of rocks was still being done, the creek was dry and screens were still up. I posted a photo yesterday. I don't have any updates after 3 July, but it seems to be taking longer than anticipated.
Thank you to the WL angels

who are lurking around here...
You're too cute.
What an amazing thread!
I just booked two rooms for 9 nights in January at the WL! CAN'T wait!!
DH & I will be there for Marathon weekend and then my Mom will arrive with my children for a week
Welcome to the thread! Sounds like you have a great trip planned. Good luck to you in the marathon.
So glad to hear your trip is going well, KOOK! And excited to see some pictures! Could you provide an update on the stream construction, when you can?
Let us know what you think of the 7DMT! We are so excited to get our first rides on it in a few weeks.... We have FIVE FP+s schedule for it! LOL
We rode 7DMT 4 times with FP+. I would not wait stand-by for this ride as it breaks down often and the stand-by lines are very long. My recommendation is to ask to wait for the last car. They will put you aside and you will board quickly. The 7DMT FP+ queue moves very fast and the indoor line is very well air conditioned. If you ask for the last car you will find that you can rock back and forth more easily and you won't feel the deceleration effect as you would from any other car. The other cars feel as if they are slowing down greatly after climbing a hill and preparing to descend. Also, prepare to come to a very abrupt halt at the very end of the ride before you slowly enter back into the mine. The ride is very smooth and fun, but again, I would only do it with FP+.
DH decided we needed a bit of magic in our life and couldn't wait until our October GF trip so he made a 4 night reservation for the end of July at WL!
We decided to stay out of the parks because of the heat and are considering a carriage ride. Are both Wilderness and Port Orleans rides similar or do you recommend one over the other?
Thanks for any help and suggestions!
Liz
WTG DH! I can't compare the two carriage venues, but it would make more sense to do it at FW which is an easy boat ride or walk from where you're staying.
Hi,
Great thread on the Wilderness Lodge Resort with an excellent content.
I have a question that I hope someone can answer.
I will be at the WL in May 2015 just me and my son. I would want a woods view room and will request one in the north wing away from the lobby.
Can anyone tell me which rooms are the King Beds? I would prefer a King Bed to have additional space but #1 preference is location.
I have noted that the King rooms at most other resorts tend to be on the corners. Does this hold true for the WL?
Thank you for your response.
Welcome! I've tried to get a room-type map, but those seem to be proprietary. I'm only told that "kings and bunks are scattered throughout the resort." You might be able to get more specific king room information from the Touring Plans WL Room Finder which is located
HERE.
ETA: I forgot to mention that most kings at WL are HA rooms that are set aside for those who request them. When not occupied, they revert to open inventory and can be assigned to anyone. These rooms have HA features that can make them undesirable to guests not needing roll-in showers, lowered sinks, etc... So be careful when requesting a king.
After much debate on what to do for our late sept/early oct vacation, we are staying put at WL. I was going to switch from Courtyard View down to Woods View but since I booked with Orbitz, I have to cancel my stay entirely and rebook. Financially it would be ideal for me to rebook when I have my full refund back, and I'm kind of not looking to play with fire, in case Woods sells out while I'm waiting for my refund.
It's just my boyfriend and I, we are in our thirties and plan to do a lot of park time and if we do have free time we will explore the WL. We only had time to use the pool once last year at our stay at Pop so I think we will be okay with a pool closure. I'm a little upset i booked a Courtyard view but it is what it is I guess!
Welcome! Don't give up on the CYV, but know that the WV is lovely, especially in the North Wing on a high floor. Floors 5 and below all have balcony railings that you can see through
Pulled the trigger and moved to a one bedroom villa. I was excited before, but now!!!!!!! We loved the idea of a CL potential, but knew it was remote. Yesterday was the first time since the big FD day release that a one bedroom opened up. I may be whacked, but the idea of a giant tub, big fridge, and in room washer and dryer made me more giddy than free snacks and booze.
Saw some of the views from some of the rooms. YUM. I can feel the relaxy goodness washing over me
We also think we can hide where we are longer from the DD by staying in the villa. She still has no clue.
You can always fill your huge fridge AND whirlpool tub with snacks and booze

.
Relaxy goodness is at its finest at VWL and that tub will be perfect at the end of the day. Not going to the laundry room is a real plus, too. Sounds like the villa is a great compromise
"Now that everyone in the known universe knows about the pool refurb, we thought we might officially announce it."
Refurb?! What refurb?! It's an
