That wasn't much of a concession speech was it? The only part about quiting was that she Congratulated Obama.

She should have bowed out gracefully tonight and asked for the party to unite behind the parties nominee.

She should have, yes. I don't know if I'm surprised or not that she didn't.

She is nothing if not tenacious. She needs to get out, but only she can decide that. What does she really hope to gain by staying in? Apparently, she won some imaginary election during this primary and the electoral college is ready to elect her President??? It's just weird. At some point, the ideals of the Democratic party should be more important than a candidate who lost--by the thinnest of margins--but, nonetheless, lost.

I guess everyone forgot about the *8* years Bill was in office. Do you really think Hillary wasn't a driving force behind him? That woman has my UTMOST respect and if anyone deserves to be president (again) it is her.

I am totally not surprised she pulled something so classless. I don't know why anyone would be. she is a coniving shrew and is now trying to wiggle her way into the VP slot while bill spouts off attacking Obama every chance he gets. For the life of me I can't understand how she has lasted this far. And I think if O is pressured into taking her on and all her bagage it would hamper his presidency.

She never said that she was conceding...but she will. He just won like 2 hrs if that before her speech.:confused3 She was giving her last speech to her supporters to thank them. Not just that if it is the VP she wants than if she conceded as if to just give up as you call it that would be against the fight that she is all about.

She gave a gracious smart speech, she congratulated Obama and his supporters.....and she will bow out just as gracious. And she will work to get her supporters on track for him. But dont forget this will not be a cake walk for Obama....him and McCain are neck and neck right know...

He will need to campain smart to get us HS over to his side. All I can say is here we go again except this time...with McCain and Obama....

Don't forget she has more popular votes than Obama....CNN said tonight that she has the popular vote ..Obama has 49.8%..but that is a moot point as this point...

and dont forget that many of those HS feel the same way about Obama as you have just pointed out about Hillary....and she has more votes than any candidate ever running for the POTUS NOD....:thumbsup2

The 'popular vote' does not take into account caucus states (including the votes of all the people in my state) and unfortunately for Hillary the criteria is the delegate count.

Woulda...coulda...shoulda. She got her steam too late and she lost... Close doesn't cut it.

Just because Obama's campaign was putting out the story this morning that she was going to concede doesn't mean that she was required to. Frankly, I hope she takes it to the convention.

When they added in the caucuses she was still ahead...by only by 50,000. They did a 3 way cinereo and 2 of them showed her with the popular vote.

But that was not the point..the point was that the OP said. And that he will most likely need her to get her votes unless he can work very smart to get US to come over to his side. I can tell you that her just asking and trying to persuade us to go over to Obama does not mean we will...

If we dont trust, and think the man has bad Judgement, and inexperience and a long list of other stuff....nothing Hillary can say will make us decide to go to him. But with her on the ticket there is at least the security in the HS minds that someone is around just in case he falls that might be able to help him up.

He will have a better chance of getting her supporters if on the ticket than if not....you may not agree and that is fine....but as of today that is how I feel ..maybe it will change but dought it...at this point I will not vote Obama...but wont vote for McCain either.

You do realize that refusing to vote for Obama on the basis of "I am a HS and I deserve to be catered to" basically hands McCain the election, right? I am not a big fan of Clinton, but if she had received the nomination, I would throw my entire heart into supporting her. I really don't understand this "us vs them" mentality about Obama supporters vs. Clinton supporters. I know both groups of supporters have encouraged this division, but it really strikes me as so petty. If you care about Clinton's policies in any shape or form, I can't see how not voting (and therefore handing the election to McCain) would be the solution.

Edited to add - what would make you feel like supporting him? I have a feeling he will choose his VP carefully - which might not even be Clinton, if you go on the basis of what he is lacking - experience, particularly foreign policy and military experience.

A thought occurred to me this morning about this whole situation--perhaps Hillary is not conceding for a very good reason. All of the other candidates have officially dropped out of the race. The filing deadline has passed, no new candidates can file for the race. If something happens to Obama, there are issues with who would then be the democratic candidate. There was a post about this a while back and I posted that the party would decide but I also forgot that you have to file to be a candidate so the party can't just pick someone out of a hat. Keeping her hat in the race gives the party an option. This is a horrible thing to think about but we still live in a country where there are a lot of people that don't like black men very much.

If this is her reason for staying in, then she is worst than I thought she was.

Truer words have never been spoken.

She could have conceeded. It was projected to have happened she could of prepared. SHE CHOOSE NOT TO. That is the person she is and will always be.

Why? Maybe the party is having her keep her hat in the race? Would you prefer no democratic candidate in Nov? Hopefully nothing happens but the secret service seems to think there is a greater threat to Obama, Colin Powell has said many, many, many times he won't run for high office for this very reason. Again, sad but it is true that there are more wackos out there then we would like to think.

This speech was about THANKING HER SUPPORTERS!!
No where did she say she was going to concede. Has Ron Paul offically conceded to McCain???? I don't hear the uproar over Ron Paul.
I swear people just love to hate Hillary because she is Hillary and NO other reason!

If Obama has "won" then why is everyone so afraid of Hillary and her not concedeing? :confused3
What does it matter?

Last night was about Hillary and her supporters and thanking them for their support.

She put on a great speech :thumbsup2

She is smart and she will concede when it is the right time!

I have had this fear for a long time. So many people in this country are still racist...it makes me sick.

I just wonder why she couldn't congratulate Obama on reaching the delegate number in that speech....I surely didn't expect it to be all about Obama, but why could she not just say congratulations? I watched Obama's speech and he was very congratulatory towards HRC and her campaign, I would have liked to see her reach out more to ALL democrats in an attempt to start uniting. When Terry McAuliffe introduced her as "The Next President of the United States," I knew she wasn't going to be gracious.

You are comparing Ron Paul to Hillary??? you must be kidding. He was never a true contender for anything. Hillary and Obama have had a neck and neck race. It is political courtesy to conceed when the writing is on the wall.

Last night should never have been about Hillary. It was a truly historical night for America - a black man recieving the democratic party's nomination yet, until Hillary conceeds it is not a TRUE OFFICIAL victory. She should have conceeded.

She is about herself and nothing else. That was proved last night.
