I'm planning to spend a couple of beach days outside of Orlando after my WDW visit next month. I think I'll hit the Clearwater Beach area that also includes Honeymoon Island and Caledesi Island.

I'm wondering if anyone has recommendations on where to stay? There are many hotels and I'm looking for recommendations. I've read on this board to stay away from Highway 19 hotels. I'm looking for something affordable - under $150/night would be great. The hotels along the beachfront are $200, so I'd like to spend less than that. I'm also open to the idea of B&Bs since I enjoy them.

Thanks!

Thanks for the suggestion! I was looking at other hotels and was wondering if anyone has stayed at Clearwater Beachview Resort? It's at 325 Gulf Blvd and used to be a Howard Johnson hotel. I've been unsuccessful finding much for reviews on it.

Last summer we stayed Fairfield Inn on Executive Drive in Clearwater. It was very nice, clean, recently renovated and had a nice breakfast. It was a 5 - 10 minute drive to the beach. A lady at the front desk also steered in the direction of Fort DeSoto Park which was wonderful and a few great restaurants. It was pretty cheap...don't remember how much. Try Marriott.com if interested. I would stay there again but it is not the type of hotel to really "hang out in" ...nothing but a little pool to do. But a nice place all the same !!

I think this Clearwater hotel (that used to be hojo's) is across the street from the beach from what I recall. If beach location is important to you, then this might not be ideal.

WE stayed at shephards beach resort beachfront. We loved it, It was under 150.00.
