Clearwater or ft lauderdAle

Hi all, I know not necessarily a question to post on orlando board but could use your advice on this. Planning a Disney trip next may, Want to combine a few days at Disney, a 4 day Disney cruise, a few days locally in orlando to cover universal or just to chill. Also Want to see if we can go to ft lauderdAle for a couple of days in between but was wondering if worth the drive, we have been going to Clearwater the last couple years and my question is whether ft lauderdAle is Similar to that or offers much more for us to venture out to with the 3 HR drive each way? Any help appreciated, thank you

I live in FT Lauderdale and I would say just stay up in Orlando if I were you lol. Its ok down here, beaches are nice but you can find nicer, maybe Daytona or even Clearwater may be nicer. It also depends on what you want to come down for. Usual stuff, clubs, restaurants, museums and things of that nature.

Another South Floridian here.

Depends on what your interests are.

You know Clearwater -- Gulf (read "no waves") beach. Quiet. If you want to chill, Clearwater is a great place to chill.

FLL probably has better beaches in the sense that there is actual wave action there. But, if you like to sit at the edge and just dip your toesies in, that's not an advantage.

FLL has MUCH better restaurants and clubs, and is a MUCH livelier place.

In the greater FLL/MIA area there are lots of cool things to do (major league baseball, football, basketball, hockey; Everglades National Park, casinos, concerts, festivals, South Beach, etc, etc.). And the Florida Keys aren't too far away for a day trip.

Thanks so much really appreciate the input. I guess it's just the newness of ft lauderdAle that attracted us but you are right if we are only looking for a family beach and relaxin experience then don't need to go further than Clearwater or maybe daytime etc. For some reason fr lauderdale hotels are on the expensive side also so thats a factor for us to think about. I have been multiple times to Clearwater Beach and I would highly recommend it.

I have been to both Clearwater & Ft. Lauderdale. I left for a cruise out of Ft. L. & spent 2 days there & loved it! I think it is worth the drive. Clearwater has more blue water but the beaches in Ft. L.are bigger. I love both. I'm no help lol!!! Well, enjoy either way!
