I wold like to stay in a resort overlooking the beach. Do you all have opinions on some places. I like the look of the Adam's Mark and the price is right on Expedia at $138. I don't want to go much higher as I am saveing the bigger buck for the Portofino Bay and WDW(hoping for discounts to come out). Thanks for any info.

Be warned that most of the hotels there are used ALOt and by Spring Breakers too so they tend to look more worn than you would expect even for a "nice" hotel.

We have stayed at the Hilton there using Priceline and it was in a great location, the beach and pool was great. Rooms were clean but as I said you can see wear from them being used so much.

Not sure about Adams Mark, it is also supposed to be one of the nicer ones.

Thanks for the input. I sort of figured that it was a very busy area and that , while the rooms at the hotels look nice online, they would be a bit worn. I will check out the Hilton more closely.

Also..I just saw on the Priceline board that someone did get Adams Mark for $60 a night..I think when we got the HIlton (which was a while ago) we paid $55 a night.

I stayed at the Adams Mark a few years ago and was very disappointed....way overpriced, room was dingy. Last year we stayed at the Hilton and we were very happy, all-around. Room, beach, pool, pool-side bar, service, etc. were great. Depending on when you are going, there are lots of spring breakers in Clearwater, but I can't say I saw much of them at the Hilton. Probably at the cheaper hotels in the area. Hope this helps.

We stayed at the Hilton Clearwater Beach in April 2002. We used priceline as well. We had a room overlooking the beach. We really enjoyed it. The beach was beautiful.
The room did show signs of wear but I think that a lot of the wear is sand damage.
We did not see groups of spring breakers.
Someone referred to Clearwater as a place for the newly wed and the nearly dead.
Anyway, we don't fit into either catagory and I have no problem with being around that population. Everyone seemed nice. Strolling the beach, enjoying each others company.

We stayed at The EconoLodge and it suited us nicely - right on the beach and not too pricey. It was a bit jaded and '70s' dated but it was adequate and clean.

We stayed one night at that Econolodge and would never stay there again. It was horrible, very dirty, neglected..a little boy got his finger cut in his room door because the doors would slam shut when you opened them. The front desk lady (who was another story in herself) was pretty blase about the whole thing as the kid was screaming. I was not impressed there at all. Oh and the so called kitchenette they had was a small burner that was so cruddy we wouldnt eve touch it or anything else.

That was our opinion anyway.

Thanks for all the replies. I really appreciate the opinions and descriptions. Since I am going at the beginning of May I thinks most spring breakers would be long gone...I hope!!!
