Clearly, We ARE Insane! 4th of July at the World! DONE 8/12

You and Mr Vacuum will have a great time, can't wait to hear all about it, your last TR was great. Sorry to hear about the break up, and about you pet lizard. Once you are at WDW everything will seem so much better, you just need that Disney Pixie Dust again. pixiedust:

Thanks for all your kind comments! You guys rule. :goodvibes

So before I go, let me introduce you to the cast, my family. There is me - I am especially fond of milkshakes, bicycle riding, poetry, attempting to knit (i have been working on a single scarf for over a year) and writing ridiculous songs on my guitar that no one will ever hear. my favorite disney films are alice in wonderland, pocahontas, mulan...basically anything about a young lady who has no idea what to do with her life or if she is ever making good decisions. I can relate.
I think my parents look just like Lady and the Tramp - my mother is short and adorable, my father is tall with gray hair. Plus, they really love Italian food. The personalities are a bit switched though - my dad is a relatively quiet guy who likes to play it safe, and my mom is boisterous with a sense of adventure. I love them both dearly, but they live over five hours away and I have no car, so I do not get to see them very often. I have not seen them since...hmmm...Easter, I think. The poor pair has been subject to many a weepy phone call complete with ferocious mood swings over the past month, though...and they still seem to like me. They're good people.
Oh and can't forget Mr. Vacuum! But you guys have already met him. :)
Back to work for me - the next official update should be when I get back from our wonderful trip to the World! Thanks for reading! :teeth:

Hope you have a wonderful time ~ Looking forward to reading all about it.

Here I am in our room at the gorgeous Peabody Hotel, waiting for my mom to get out of her meetings so we can go to MK! Didn't expect to have internet access in the room - neat!

I ducked out of the office and took the R1 train to the airport. Check in was easy and I had a couple hours to kill before my 8:10pm flight, so I wandered a bit through the shops and had some dinner (oh yum, airport sushi). The flight was quiet and uneventful, there was a breathtaking red sunset but I sat on the wrong side of the plane and barely saw it. Oops!
Do you know what I adore? I adore that Air Tran has XM radio at every seat. They even give you headphones for free that you can keep. Mostly I listened to the station called Lucy, which plays all the songs I listened to in middle school - Hole, Toadies, Fuel, Smashing Pumpkins - ah, it's like being 13 years old again. LOVE IT!
We also arrived in MCO a full 30 minutes early, so by the time I got off the plane and rode the monorail-thingy to the main terminal, my parents were waiting. Soon we were pulling up to the hotel, where we curled up in the lobby for drinks - I had an Emerald Martini, which had rum and melon flavoring in it, delightful. :drinking1 Asleep by 1 AM!!!

I will wait until I get back to post the rest of our trip, as today is the day I started taking lots o' pictures! My dad just got this camera though and has no idea how to get pictures off of it onto the computer, though, so I may just wait until our last day in the parks and have the kind folks at the Epcot Camera Center take all the images off the memory card and burn them to a CD for me (Dex and I did this last time, it was fabulous - great way to free up your card). Now I must be off to get ready for an afternoon at MK and dinner at the Cali Grill! :woohoo:

See ya real soon!

Have a great time at Cali Grill, love that restaurant. Cant wait to read your reports.

My best friend lived in FL for several years and we loved going to Disney with her.

Last August we made a special trip to spend some time with her and her boyfriend. Well, he pulled the same thing your dex did! He dumped her (by phone) 2 days after a magical and wonderful time together. (she and I kept thinking he was going to "pop" the question after the great trip).

Sometimes I'm floored by how wrong I can be about people (she felt the same way). :confused3

But ... the encouraging thing is that now she is with a FANTASTIC guy who is perfect for her. :lovestruc

The only bad news for me is she is moving (this weekend) from FL to San Diego to live closer to him, so no more WDW trips with her :guilty: (we'll have to try Disneyland).

So, happy endings do happen (duh, we all know that ... it's a big part of our love for all things DIS). Keep your chin up and enjoy your time in WDW!!!

hey everyone! just wanted to let you know that I am still alive :teeth: and have been back from WDW for almost a week. just been sooo busy with work - but tonight i have no plans so i am going to start my TR. sorry for the delays!

ex-CPer here too, although a long time before you! (yes, i am old!) :thumbsup2
:cool1:
i really enjoyed your last report! the dEX has no idea what he is missing! i can't believe he did it 2 days afterwards. oh well, there are bigger and better fish in the sea.

anyways- can't wait to read about this trip too. did you get to see the ducks do the walk a the Peabody?

:thumbsup2 Can't wait to read more, hope you had a brilliant time! We were also there over 4th july!

This morning I woke up and surveyed the view from our lovely room. The Peabody is a very nice hotel right near the Orlando convention center.
peabodysmall.jpg

We had a room on the 12th floor
peabodyroomsmall.jpg

And it overlooked the pool.
poolviewsmall.jpg

It looked so terribly appealing (especially in these high florida July temperatures, ugh) that I dragged my Dad down to the pool first thing. :sunny: Even their kiddie pool is fancy looking, no?
wadingpoolsmall.jpg

I swam around a bit, doing my Ariel impression, while my dad read the paper. When I got out he showed me a very amusing article about the prime minister of Japan hanging out with GW Bush at Graceland. The article contained a hilarious picture of Koizumi striking a pose while Bush looks perturbed, and we laughed heartily.
koizumikarate_narrowweb__300x320,0.jpg

Man, I love Japan. Poketti ni futon haiteru! (roughly translates to “I have a futon in my pocket.” Hey, it’s been a while since college.)
dad couldn’t get to a golf course fast enough, so mom and I headed off to breakfast at the hotel’s diner, the B-Line. I ate here every day, it was way cleaner than any 24-hour diner we have here in philly, with better pastries!
b-linefullsmall.jpg

There’s this thing at the Peabody called the Duck Parade. I won’t go into the long history and explanation of the Duck Parade since it’s not Disney and I know y’all are all eager for me to get to the Magic Kingdom already, but here is a summary:
Many decades ago, some people got drunk and put ducks in the fountain of the hotel lobby. Hilarity ensued.
Now it is a tradition they do twice daily. They bring a bunch of ducks to the lobby in the elevator, lay out a red carpet for them, select a lucky family to chase the ducks down the red carpet with sticks, and the ducks waddle up a set of wooden stairs to splash into the main fountain. We lined up next to the red carpet 20 minutes ahead of time to ensure that we would have a prime spot for viewing the ducks.
duckfountainsmall.jpg

The ducks arrived to much fanfare and ran down the walkway, it took about five seconds and I threw myself on the floor laughing helplessly after it was over because I have never been a part of something so ridiculous (except maybe the 1980's and something called ‘puppet karaoke’). I seranaded the ducks with my own rendition of the "Ducktales" theme song, which has always been a Disney favorite of mine. I even have a CD somewhere with the German version of the song (it sounds something like "KLAP TAR! WOOO HOO!") I bet you didn't know you were going to read such a multilingual report today, did you?!
My mother, who was, after all, there to work, had some late morning events to attend so I wandered around the hotel for a bit and then watched some of RAY on HBO while DISing. Soon the afternoon had arrived, and we were hopping in our $35-with-tip taxi on our way to the TTC!

We raced up the ramp to the monorail station. It wasn’t too crowded. I found myself looking at this.
monorailnosesmall.jpg

If by “looking” you mean “leaning my body so far over the gate to peer inside that onlookers were amazed by my rubberlike flexibility”. A tall CM with glasses and a Stitch backpack on galloped up to me, like a knight with a wild blue alien steed. :stitch:
“HEY! You wanna sit there?”
Meeeee? Are you talking to meeee? YES, yes I do want to sit there! How did you know?! :hyper:
Moments later mom, mr. v and I were sitting in the front of the monorail, for the very first time in history!
mrvonmonorailsmall.jpg

Dex and I had tried to do this several times with no luck, and here I didn’t even ask and mom and I are making a grand entrance to the MK. Here is a picture of me mocking him in my head.
kellymonorailcopilotsmall.jpg

Oh just kidding! I was probably admiring the glamourous 180 degree view of the World. My favorite part was when we went into the Contemporary, we saw a little wooden owl sitting atop the tunnel. mom said that it was there to scare birds away so that they wouldn’t fly into the tunnel (and hence, the hotel). neato! the ride was lovely and we got us some spiffy co-pilot cards.
Heading into the MK, had to stop for the ol’ bag check. The security guard peered at mr. v’s fluffy little head peeking out of my alice bag.
“What is THAT?” he inquired. “That’s Vacuum,” my mom explained. She feels she is far too familiar with mr. V to refer to him formally. “Mr. Vacuum,” I corrected her. Security Guard wanted to know how long we had had this problem, and announced that we must be from the north, because people from the north are crazy.
We headed right for Splash Mountain for a FP, with a stop to observe the main street piano player. I had never noticed this guy, he’s awesome!
pianoonmainstreetsmall.jpg

I also took a pic of a little area by the piano player that was teeming with myrtle trees for my friend Jax (see my March ‘05 TR for her cameo), she loves myrtle trees and has one tattooed on her back.
myrtletreessmall.jpg

Got my FP for Splash then mom was hungry, and fussing at me with her hungriness. She’s a pescatarian so we were off to CHH, since I figured there’d be a lot of choices for her there, and I do love it so. The downstairs was packed, we waited forever to order, then there was a mix up with the order ahead of us so it took ages. mom started tugging on my bag. “why are all these peeeople here. i’m hunnngry, they are not functioning to maximum efficiency. i want my fishy saaaandwich.” i patted her on the head and said “shhh shhh, i’ll get the food and you run along upstairs and find us a nice place to sit,” okay, i’m exaggerating. a little.
i got our food and headed upstairs to find my mother hopping around gleefully - there were about four other people occupying the entire second level. “Don’t people KNOW about this?” she shrieked. “it’s practically empty!”
MKcolumbiaharborhousesmall.jpg

She had chosen this spot, the same spot I always sit at CHH - what a view! All those poor suckers wandering around in the heat and crowds below us, ha ha! I had my usual - kids mac n’ cheese with mickey crackers and grapes - and mom had clam chowder and a tuna sandwich. i tasted her tuna and it was deeeeelishious.
we left the eatery and stepped out into the sun-drenched heat. then decided to stop for a quick bathroom break in fantasyland, and emerged three minutes later to a torrential DOWNPOUR. ah florida weather, you so crazy! :umbrella:
we raced over to HM and hopped on line, just making it to the covered part, yeay! the rain still attacked us, blowing in from all sides. but in 10 minutes we were in, and off on a glorious visit to 999 happy haunts! the ride stopped in the graveyard scene, and we had a staring contest with the poor spooked human and his dog for about five minutes, but enjoyed the ride nontheless. it was still raining when we came out, so on to It’s a Small World! mom really liked the refurb. came out of that, still raining, okay, let’s stand in line for Philharmagic! I had never stood in the queue for this before, always had a FP, so it was neat to see all the posters in the line. I love this movie and giggled uncontrollably through the whole thing. Yeay!!
when we got out of Philharmagic, finally, it was lovely and sunny! So off to Splash - the FP line was the longest I’d ever seen! I walked about two yards into it and stopped dead. Made it through in about ten minutes, not too bad. This is one of my very favoritest rides and I enjoyed it quite thoroughly. YES I DID!
We wandered back toward the castle for some picture-taking
momcastlesmall.jpg

My mom thought of this one, she’s a genius:
MKdonaldandmrvsmall.jpg

It’s a poultry extravaganza!!!!
Finally, we made it to Tomorrowland, getting an FP for Buzz and going on TTA while we waited. My mom was amazed by the TTA, how you get to go through all the rides and look out over the park and isn’t it wonderful, don’t more people know about this?! Between the monorail ride, lunch and the TTA, my mother is convinced that I am an all-knowing disney guide goddess. Still some time before Buzz, so we downed some mickey bars and hightailed it over to Toontown. We walked through Mickey’s house, looked around a bit, said “eh,” and left Toontown. Sorry Toontown, I guess my mom isn’t in your target demographic. The Barnstormer does not appeal.
But Ariel does, so we headed over to her grove to see if she was hanging out. 50 minutes, you say? No thank you. We are too busy to wait for Princess Ariel. We must carousel.
carouselsmall.jpg

Back to Tomorrowland for Buzz, which was great fun. My mom is a sci-fi fan so she got really into it. We wandered back by the castle and saw Cinderellabration was starting. We staked out a spot by the main street piano player. We were far away but could see decently, and it was hardly as packed as up front. woohoo! i had never seen this show before, so this was another first for me. I can’t say I ever wish to see it again, but hey, a lot of people seemed pretty into it.
Time to hop back on the monorail! We rode it to the Contemporary and met up with my dad, who was meeting us there after a triumphant day on the golf course. We sat down at a table in the Outer Rim bar and had a very funny waitress whose name I will never remember, I had a lava colada - a pina colada with raspberry puree in it - wheee! :drinking1
I had asked my dad to bring my Mickey mouse dress for me to change into for dinner, but he didn’t, so I felt a little underdressed waltzing up to the California Grill check in wearing my Minnie t-shirt and teeny denim shorts. I hid behind my mom a bit, thinking maybe if they saw me they would send us away in disgust. My disguise worked, and soon we were on our way up to the top of the giant toaster!
I loved our waiter, his name was Ryan and he was darling. Plus we had a pretty sweet table.
caligrillviewsmall.jpg

Can you think of a better place to watch a sunset? Mom and I split the sushi appetizer - soooo fresh - and dad had salad. We also got a bottle of white wine. I ordered the oak beef filet, which was good, but I enjoyed the sides more - cheesy potatoes and sugar snap peas, yummm. Around nine we could kinda see the Epcot fireworks going off on the other side of the restaurant, but didn’t pay much attention as we would be seeing them on the 4th. For dessert we ordered a blueberry cobbler and an AMAZING chocolate cherry thing that was amazing. Oh man. I miss that chococherry mess. We ate reeeeeeeeally slowly so that we would make it to 10pm for Wishes - success!!! They don’t turn the lights down in the restaurant or anything but they did pipe in the music, which was lovely.
We staggered out of there exhausted, and went back to the hotel to crash! tomorrow, meandering aimlessly ‘round the Studios! :wizard:

So glad you had such fun this day with the parental units; they both sound very sweet. :)
Kathy

This morning I woke up and went for a glorious swim! Then it was time for more B-Line breakfast
b-linesmall.jpg

Mmmmmmmm oatymeal. While waiting for mom to get out of her meeting, I admired the view from our hotel window. Hey, wait, what’s that in the distance? :magnify:
peabodyroomview.jpg

It’s Epcot! Cool!! We have an Epcot view!!! Can’t you see it? Come on, squint. If I peered extra especially hard, I could see the Contemporary too, way off to the right. Neat!
Time for Downtown Disney - mom and I spent forever in World of Disney, getting all the gifts we needed. She bought me the Wishes soundtrack, which is still in its wrapping becos I am nervous it will make me weepy. Soon it was mid-afternoon and we were getting hungry, and therefore, crabby. We poked our heads in Earl of Sandwich but the line was ginormous, so we headed to MGM figuring we’d find some sort of foodstuffs there.
As we walked up to the gates, thunder was a-rumbling in the distance. :umbrella: We decided to go to Starring Rolls - I had never been in there. Split a few sandwiches and since they don’t have indoor seating, we crowded under an umbrella-covered table and watched the rain fall while we wolfed down our food.
MGMrainsmall.jpg

After 30 or so minutes it was still going, so we reluctantly headed away from our precious covering and into the open park. Saw a lot of people getting mighty creative with their attempts to stay dry - one teenage girl made an entire outfit out of large disney bags - shorts, shirt, hat, etc. We grabbed some FPs for Ariel, and went on the animation tour in the meantime. I love, love the movie in this exhibit, with Mushu. He brings me great joy. :hyper: Unfortunately the CM interacting with him mumbled through the whole thing and we couldn’t really understand her. My parents had no interest in taking a drawing class or hanging out with The Incredibles, so we meandered out into the wet street again. my dad insisted we stop for a picture.
jojosmall.jpg

If you are an observant DISer, you’ll notice that’s not my mother and I. My dad appearantly has a thing for Goliath the Lion. who knew?
This lead us to WWTBAM, which I was excited about since I know it’s shutting down soon. I’ve only done this once, last March. The host was a guy named Jim - he was extremely hilarious. Everytime they went to a shot of people in the audience, he would mock them. The 2 contestants we saw were college student Bill from NY, who didn’t know how many cups were in a quart, and Chris from MD, who didn’t know that Nestle invented freeze dried coffee.
Is it time for Ariel? Why yes it is! I’ve only done this once before too, but I adore the puppets. I did not adore getting splashed with water from under the sea. I am already wet thanks to this awesome orlando summer weather, thanks. :fish:
MGMbacklotsmall.jpg

Wandered about this area while waiting for our time to dine at the Sci-Fi. My parents didn’t like our waiter - they thought he was inattentive and he kept forgetting stuff - although we did get a free order of onion rings from him becos he brought them instead of the spinach dip we had actually ordered. My hamburger was lame, but the milkshakes were amazing! :drinking1 I had the oreo one with chocolate liquor in it, and finally I got to add a blue ice cube to my collection of glowing ice cubes. NOW MY COLLECTION OF GLOWING ICE CUBES IS COMPLETE!!! This really excited me. Hmmmm, maybe I am even lamer than the hamburger. :scratchin:
The rain stopped! Oh wonderful!!! Let us muppet!!!
pigfountainsmall.jpg

My dad hearts Statler and Waldorf, and I am secretely in love with Gonzo the Great, so this was a good time. I'd like to take a moment to share with you one of my favorite gems of wisdom from Gonzo - "One man's lunacy is another man's lounge act." Wow, right? I love that man. er, alien. thing. guy.
Onto the Great Movie Ride! We got the gangster one again, and in fact got the same exact actress who played Mugsy as last time. Bah. Since it was July and therefore crowded, we got to watch the preview video three times. I have now added Footlight Parade to my netflix list. C’mon, you know that “Sittin’ on a Backyard Fence” ditty gets stuck in your head too.
Mom was excited for Beauty & The Beast - I’ve seen this show many times, including once where the sign language interperaters were there, who are awesome. They are more expressive than any of the actors. It was sooo crowded - the woman in front of me kept standing up to take pictures. What the heck, lady!
MGMbellesmall.jpg

Look, it’s a poor young lady getting attacked by silverware! We saw this on broadway for mother’s day many years ago, but I was horribly sick that evening, so did not enjoy it. boo.
Mom and Dad were now off to One Man’s Dream, which I love, but have seen many many many times. I wanted them to see it though, and learn a bit about Walt, becos I find him to be a fascinating man. Also, it kept them occupied while I rode Rockin’ Rollercoaster, which was joyous. The line at ToT was too long so I skipped it, and wandered over to the big ol’ sorcerer hat to meet my parents. Finally I found the ‘rents and we all agreed we had had enough and didn’t care to stick around for Fantasmic. Back at the hotel I snuggled into my intensely soft double bed and we watched Ice Age: Meltdown before drifting off to sleep.

Tomorrow: Cheerier, I promise! :guilty: :teeth:

Can't Wait! Love to hear your young(ish) point of view! Keep up th great Trippie!

I am enjoying your TR. Keep your chin up. You have to go through a few frogs til you find your prince!

"It was sooo crowded - the woman in front of me kept standing up to take pictures. What the heck, lady!"

I can't believe someone would do that. Once, I would be like "ok", but multiple times. Some people have no consideration what so ever.

Enjoying your report.

Animal Kingdom day! Me and dad swam in the morning again, and since my mom had meetings as usual, we didn’t get going til about 12:15. I scarfed down some granola bars and water for breakfast and watched the Incredibles while we waited. I was anxious today - we had Boma reservations at 6 pm so this didn’t leave us with a lot of park time. :bitelip:
AK was SO hot and crowded. It is always super warm in AK to me. :sunny: My mom is a birdwatcher, and took a million pictures of all the birds at the front of the park.
AKbirdsmall.jpg

I really wanted to go on EE and finally see that darn snowmonster (I closed my eyes when we rode it in May and missed it!), so I beelined for Asia to grab a FP. Mom and Dad grabbed FPs for ITTBAB, figuring they’d do that while I climbed Mt. Everest. While they waited for me to return, they found a drum circle hanging out on Discovery Island. My dad is a jazz musician, so he was delighted.
AKdrummerssmall.jpg

I, meanwhile, had my own discovery, which was much less pleasant - here it was not even 1pm, and the FP return for EE wasn’t until 6:30. Well, so much for that. KRR was right there so I got a FP, though I never ended up using it - it was for 5. Both rides had a standby time of 80 minutes, so I said forget it and headed back to Discovery Island.
Mom and Dad were off to ITTBAB now, so I wandered a bit to amuse myself. I went into the shops, found a wonderful Alice shirt, tried it on, liked it, looked at the price tag, put it back. It was cute, but not $40 cute. Mom always complains that I never buy anything for myself, so I did find a souvenier for myself - only $2!
mrvanddonaldcandysmall.jpg

Mmmm, candy-filled Donald Duck. Now I keep my vitamins in it. I think he’s pretty hilarious looking. 5 seconds after I got into the shop, it started POURING! But it stopped just in time for my parents to exit the show.
Mom wanted to do Flights of Wonder, so we ran over to catch it - I had seen this last time but once again, loved it! I love Bree and Guano Joe.
AKbreejoe.jpg

There was a very funny moment when Bree was trying to get a bird to hop up on her arm, but it was wandering around, pecking for seeds on the ground. She was like, “come on...remember me?...we work together.” I think she was nervous that he was never going to join her! But he did eventually. We sat in the far back left, which I hadn’t done before, and the hawk flew right next to us! Yeay!! :duck:
Say, it’s time for Pocahontas! Let’s go! There’s another one we just barely made and ended up in the back far right. Couldn’t see Grandmother Willow at all. My parents thought this was totally silly. Yeah, they’re kinda right. Oh well, I do love that music! Here I embarrassed myself by dropping my splendid tiny Donald capsule, and had to climb between some poor guys legs to grab it. “Uh, excuse me, I dropped my toy.” I’m the coolest!
Time for a first for me - we caught the parade! I have never seen this parade! It’s actually kind of awesome - reminds me of Tapestry of Dreams a bit. This picture came out wacky.
AKparadesmall.jpg

My dad tried to get a picture of my secret boyfriend, Chuck, for me.
AKchipsmall.jpg

Wait Chuck! Come back! Aww, you are so dreamy in your little green hat.
(Can you tell that it’s 100 degrees in Philadelphia right now and I don’t have air conditioning?)
We had a couple hours before dinner so we wandered over to Rainforest Cafe - neat! I’ve never been in this one, just the DTD one. I am not fond of the food and the atmosphere is too loud for me. There was a big wait for dinner, but we were able to sit down right at the bar. Despite my warnings that we were about to eat a ginormous dinner, my parents ordered a blue cheese crab dip. Which I then ate most of. Oh my heavens, it was really good. Almost as good as my rainbow colada. :drinking1 There was a couple sitting right next to us who appeared to be on a date, and my mom kept leaning over to the guy and going, “hey, what are you eating? that looks great. is that squid?” Ten years ago I would have been horribly embarrassed, but now I thought it was funny. I guess I’m growing up!
After killing some time, we drove over to AKL. We wandered around the shop before going to Boma, and my mom tried to convince me to buy some sort of giant sarong to wrap around myself that I would never, ever wear. I talked her out of it and soon we were hanging out in front of Boma, waiting for our fancy plastic beeper thing to light up.
Which it did! And we were off - to a table waaaay in the back, by the window that looks out on the pool (sort of). I can’t for the life of me remember the waitress’s name, but she was awesome - very friendly and sweet. I wanted some tea, and all they had left was chamomille, which I usually think tastes like frog sweat :crazy2: but this kind was pretty good! :drinking:
The food was great, especially the salmon, and I made sure to ingest at least half a dozen zebra domes. They were much different than I expected, soft and squishy and mousse-like. Mmmmm.
While hanging out at the dessert table with my dad, contemplating how much coconut tiramisu I could take and still leave room for apple cobbler, we were approached by the dessert chef. He started talking to me, asking me how I liked the food and stuff, but I was a little distracted by the gigantic trough of sugary goodness in front of me. I think our conversation was something like:
Mr. Chef: So, are you enjoying your dinner?
Me: Yes. Indeed.
Mr. Chef: Did you have a chance to try the desserts?
Me: Some. Not all. Must. Try. All.
Mr. Chef: Great! The blueberry pastry is very good. How has your vacation been?
Me: Yummy.
and so forth. I don’t even think I actually looked at him because I was mesmerized by the various kinds of danish. I’m kind of a jerk.
Anyway, we go back to the table and start devouring our piles of dessert that we don’t even really have any room for. All of a sudden, who appears by our side but the infamous TJ! I was so in awe I actually stopped shoveling baked goods into my mouth for a few minutes. He chatted with us about where we were from, and was excited when he learned my parents live near DC because he is visiting his sister there soon, and yadda yadda. After a few minutes, he wandered back to the kitchen.
I’m delighted. “Guys! That was TJ! He’s famous!!! He is the true chefmaster!!”
My mom narrows her eyes. “He didn’t talk to anyone else. He came all the way here, to the farthest table from the kitchen, to talk to us? What the heck? We’re not so special. We're sitting behind a pole. What is going on?”
While my mother is musing on how suspicious it is that TJ picked us three weirdoes, hidden in the back behind a pole with no kids, to come talk to, he suddenly reappears. With- you guessed it - a huge bowl of deep fried oreos!!!
“Our dessert chef made these for you. You have to eat these with your fingers, that’s the rule!” he announces, then is gone again!
AUGH! I’m freaking out. Partially because I’m completely stuffed. But mostly because I never in my wildest dreams imagined we would have the honor of deep fried Boma oreos bestowed on us. Wheeee! :hyper:
My mom is still suspicious. My dad says, “hey! That chef, he was interested in you! He must have set this up!”
“What chef? That guy who was distracting me from chocolatey goodness?” I try to remember. I don’t really think he had singled me out, but hey, I’ll play along, sure dad! my dad decides that he’s fine with anyone hitting on me as long as they give him free snacks. We shovel the oreos down, barely, and then waddle outside, unable to locate mystery chef man to thank him for possibly sending over the oreos.
We walked down by the pool to the little bridge that overlooks the flamingoes. This was great fun, because we spotted a flamingo that was having a bit of trouble. See, there is a medium-sized rock in the middle of the watery river area where the flamingoes hang out. It’s not a long rock. You can walk around it. However, someone neglected to tell this particular flamingo (we later learned it was a female), because she was hopping around puzzled, trying to get over the rock, and looking very confused every time someone emerged from around it. :rotfl:
flamingosmall.jpg

This went on for about fifteen minutes, and then she finally took a deep breath and ran over the rock, then waved her wings around squawking wildly with pride. It was pretty amusing. We were making fun of her when a guide from South Africa came up and told us that the flamingo was pretty smart for figuring it out at all. Her name was Onx and she told us a lot about the animals and took us for a little walk around the immediate area.
aklsmall.jpg

It was really lovely. She told us all about the lodge and their animals, and another guide, Avril, came and talked to us for a while too. They helped us spot some giraffes, cranes, some sort of antelope type thing, and told us about the Kadu trail, which is an exploration trail that you actually follow from inside the hotel. We were off to wander around the beautiful lodge, finding all sorts of hidden little windows and balconies to spot animals from.

The sun was setting, it was quiet and lovely, I want to stay here someday!! :cloud9: When I’m a bazillionaire, of course. :p
Soon all that chamomille tea was catching up to us, and we headed back to the hotel to watch Thank You For Smoking (awesome, by the way). Another day filled with new adventures! Which is why I love WDW - there is always many things you’ve never done!

Tomorrow - our last day, at Epcot! :flower2:

I can't believe someone would do that. Once, I would be like "ok", but multiple times. Some people have no consideration what so ever.

Enjoying your report.

yeah, it was pretty ridiculous. my dad got frustrated and asked her to please stop standing up, and she just stared at him and kept doing it. it was bizarre.
