Cleaning the Whirlpool

I'm going home to SSR on Saturday and was planning on packing ajax and a sponge to clean the hot tub, now I guess I'll use just a little dishwasher soap, what a great idea. Thank you so much for posting this. I'm a clean bathroom fanatic, I just don't want to imagine what could be in those jets . . .

I have never cleaned it before, as said before I am on vacation! We always use it since we have kids and baths are a nesesity.

However we are in middle of construciton on our house and adding a second bathroom on the 2nd floor. Our dream was to make it just like a DVC bathroom. We found the tile shower to be to much work and pricey so we are getting a prefab one(since we are doing most of it ourselves) but we have the jacuzi tub sitting out in the garage waiting to be instaled. I was wondering how we were going to clean that.

Dishwasher soap, great idea! Thanks!

Guess that leaves me in the minority. I usually just fill it up and hop in.

Add another to the list of those who just jump in. Unless the tub is noticably dirty it is probably cleaner than the one at home.

We've got some very tidy people here.

Show of hands: Who brings a seat cushion when they take their kids to see Santa? ;)

Everyone makes fun of the people who clean the tub first, but I doubt if the mousekeepers have a way, other than the "dishwasher soap-additional running the jets" method, to clean any water that accumulates in the pipes of the jacuzzi.

I put my child in there, and I prefer to know the water is clean, especially since I don't know who was there last. Maybe it was another child who had an "accident", and then if my child accidentally takes a gulp of water........

I prefer better safe than sorry. There have been many articles about germs in hot tubs.

I am definitely one of the "jump right in" unless it's clearly dirty" people. I think there CAN be such a thing as too clean. We all are blessed with an immune system to fight infections, and in order to keep it in good working condition it's actually better to be exposed to SOME germs. Otherwise you can lose the ability to fight off germs on your own and are more at risk of getting colds, etc. Of course we have to be sensible, I am not advocating exposing ourselves or our kids to The Plague. But over-use of anti bacterial products is not healthy either.

I confess, I fill the tub, run the jets and use dishwasher detergent for 10 minutes or so to clean the tub before using.

I must admit that this is one of my "unpacking rituals" also..... DH and I were at BWV just last weekend (luckily in between hurricanes) and while unpacking I fill the tub, add some dishwashing liquid and then run the jets. I've read many posts about "brown gunk" sometimes coming out of the jets and I don't want that in my bath, so I'd rather clean it first. Besides, it takes a while to fill the tub so in my mind the best time to do it is while unpacking, rather than just waiting for the tub to fill up so you can clean it before you use it.

I never thought about it...we just fill and get in.

How many of you clean the toilet seats before sitting on them?
