So, I could spend some dollars and take my familys' several filthy baseball caps to the dry cleaner, where they would get clean, albeit with some chemicals I am not entirely comfortable with.

I could take said caps out for garbage pickup :thumbsup2 which would be an O.K. option.

Or, I could try to clean at home.

Googled this until my eyes crossed. Clean in dishwasher without special equipment. Clean in dishwasher, but only with special "form."

Do not clean at home. Clean in dishwasher, but use eco-friendly detergent. Throw in clothes washer on cold and quit worrying.

So, any actual real world experience here? These are NOT heirloom wool caps BTW, just everyday "K-Mart" type "specials."

I have cleaned several baseball caps by spraying pretreater all over, double bagging them in lingerie bags (one cap per 2 bags), and washing in cold on the gentle cycle with other items in the load as well. If you're going to toss them anyway, it's worth a shot! a couple got a little warped on the brim, but all definitely came out looking better than when they went in!

I too have washed DH's baseball caps in the washer.... no bag, no special treatment, just in they go! I usually try to reshape them properly (especially the brims) and let them air dry. Many years ago I also washed them in the dishwasher with a special kind of "hat-shaped bracket". It worked okay and they definitely smelled better, but they didn't seem "scrubbed". Good luck..........P

I bought the "form" to put the baseball caps in to clean. Got two of them off of amazon for about $10. Then, I throw them in dishwasher, top rack, with whatever dishwasher detergent I have around.

My only experience in cleaning baseball caps for what it's worth. :)

I use the form in the washer. A little Spray n Wash if the brim and inner band is really dirty. Regular wash cycle and cold water because some will shrink or the colors may run especially if the hat has white on it. Let air dry in the form.

Putting it in the dishwasher kind of freaks me out but that's because I'm a germaphob!

My husband used to wash them in the dishwasher.

I now wash them in the washing machine with a few other items. No special form, no bag, nada. The brims hold their shape just fine. I suppose while they're still wet you could stuff the brim in a glass or tie with a rubber band or whatever you so to shape them. My husband never complains.

DS & DH wash their own. They use Shout and a small nail brush. Rinse & air dry.

I wash DH's and DS's hats in the washer and hang to dry. If they are really sweaty and gross, I'll use warm water.

After ages of worrying about my baseball hats (Disneyland and rundisney from an event) I just put them in the washer, air-dried them, and they were fine.

I think I was worried that the brims were cardboard or something. They aren't, they are plastic.
