I am using a nebulizer on my son for the first time. Is rinsing it in water and letting it air dry sufficient after each use? Thanks!

You don't need to wash it (or even rinse it) after every use if you're doing several a day. If you're only whipping it out once in a while, you probably will want to clean it before putting it away.

I just used Lemon Joy on my stuff when I re-used it. I was very careful to rinse it completely.

My son only uses his occasionally, usually for a couple days 1-2 times a year. I rinse it with plain water to get anything out thats in there after every use. (Won't go into detail) Then I let it air dry on paper towels.

Don't wash or rinse the tubing. I rinse the cup and the mouthpiece with water after each use. At the end of the day I wash it with mild dish soap and let it dry completely on paper towels. I keep the pieces stored in a zip lock when its not being used.

I put mine in the dishwasher, in the silverware basket, by itself. That way I feel like it's sterilized. Of course, I don't use it that often. Like a PP said, definitely don't try to rinse the tubing. If you ever see water in the tubing, you have to throw it out.

Also, a tip I learned is that if your son ever has to get a neb in the doctor's office, the doctor is required by law to throw out the mouthpiece and tubing afterwards. They have to use a brand new set for every patient. Ask the doctor or nurse if you can keep it. I've collected a nice set that way. ;)

Yes, It can also be put in the dishwasher at the end of the day or soaked in 1 part white vinegar to 3 parts water.

I was told to wash the parts in Ivory dishwashing detergent when DD used one. They warned me to NEVER use any form of bleach on it.

Make sure to completely air dry the tubing and other parts before putting away in a sealed bag. If not these could grow mold.

Care of nebulizer

Cleaning and disinfecting your equipment is simple, yet very important. Cleaning should be done in a dust- and smoke-free area away from open windows. Here is how to clean your equipment:

1. After each treatment, rinse the nebulizer cup with warm water, shake off excess water and let it air dry.

2. At the end of each day, the nebulizer cup, mask, or mouthpiece should be washed in warm, soapy water using a mild detergent, rinsed thoroughly, and allowed to air dry.

Note: There is no need to clean the tubing that connects the nebulizer to the air compressor.

Do not put these parts in the dishwasher.

3. Every third day, after washing your equipment, disinfect the equipment using a vinegar/water solution or the disinfectant solution your supplier suggests.

To use the vinegar solution, mix 1/2 cup white vinegar with 1-1/2 cups of water. Soak the equipment for 30 minutes and rinse well under a steady stream of water. Shake off the excess water and allow to air dry on a paper towel. Always allow the equipment to completely dry before storing in a plastic, zipper storage bag.
