claustrophobic...

I found the waiting area for It's Tough to be a Bug to be awfully confining. I don't have too much of a problem with tight spaces, but they were packing us in like cattle and the ceilings are low, etc. Freaked me out! But I'll bet you could skip that if you asked...
I don't think you can skip that. The "quieter" waiting area for people with special needs is a chained off area of the same waiting room. Those ceilings do feel like they are very close.

I am bothered by Haunted Mansion and Spaceship Earth. Not closeness, but because the ride car sort of comes around you a bit, around the sides and over your head. The part that really bothers me is that the speakers for the attraction are behind your head. It gives me a really unpleasant sensation.

I started a very long and supportive thread a while back - you could do a search or I will try and update next week (sorry, am with the mouse at the moment!)

My triggers this year seem to be lines which twist through narrow guiderails, and in particular Great Movie Ride with the wooden bars, Big Thunder during peak periods, and AK Safari. Having said that, I go to Great Movie Ride first thing, and ask politely if I can stand to the side. The CM's there always look after me and let me wait off to the side to enter the loading area. I would not however expect this at any time when there is more than a few rows of people inside the theatre.

The Safari is fine for me if I take a fast pass, but then I sometimes get uncomfortable in the loading area. Same thing - just ask nicely and they will move you around to the side a little to avoid the bars before the loading area.

Turtle Talk with Crush had a very low ceiling, but they always let me stand at the back. Hopefully they will expand the area as they remodel.

Note that I am not advocating or requesting to move ahead of anyone - just to stand aside during times of very low attendance. Most CM's are really helpful, and if they are not, then I just choose not to ride.

It also helps me to face outwards if I am standing with others in a line ie face the blank wall. I also get my friends to really distract me by keeping up conversation the whole time.

Best of luck - it can be done!!! :goodvibes

ot but
:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: me too!!! don't know how many times they had to roll me in, i'd freak, they had to roll me out, put me in, freak, out, in, freak, out...fortunatly they were very patient with me and the music helped a little :rotfl:

Just saw that and had to go off topic - I am famous at my local hospital as they tried three times for an MRI and couldn't even knock me out I was so worried. I lasted 30 seconds during my longest attempt. :teeth:

But there is hope - I climb onto a plane every two weeks for nine hours or so in the air. I have my routine down pat....

I that your legs hang free, she said " oh thats not good".
Ifun!

yep.. that's very "not good' although since it doesn't go upside down it should be ok for me...can you see it( the vehicle) from the line or just once you get on? and does it feel as high as it is? i heard 40 ft which is high with out any feet things imo.

oot..i used to be "safe " as husband was afraid to fly so we never did but now he has overcome his fear and mine is escalating..I can picture myself running for the door and banging on it as soon as it shuts.. : normally not a drinker but they might have to pour something stronger than pepsi .....or just knock me out with a hammer :rotfl: :rotfl:

I am very much the claustrophobic and have not had any issues with any rides. I have never done Mission Space, but have done most others. No issues here.

Well actually the 40feet is the size of the Imax theater screen they show the visual on. The seats are in three tiers, so some are at the very top, then middle, then the bottow row. But as to does it feel 40 feet high, it actually feels much higher depending on what is on the screen, I mean when you soar over the golden gate bridge you feel as if you are truly on a hang glider up that high Soarin over the water.

It is very realistic.

You can see the seats right before you load but they have not moved into position yet. There are all on the ground, floor.

I could only do this ride once, never have had motion sickness and a couple of times had to look to the side of the building and focus on something not moving.

You don't go upside down, but you do swoop, turn, and dip down and then rise back up again very quickly again depending on what you are Soarin over.

The only advice I can give anyone on this ride, is if you don't think you could actually go on a Hang glider then you might want to pass this by. I found it too real for my comfort level.

Also stay away from the Dueling Dragons at Islands of Adventure. The caves you have to snake around in while waiting to get in the ride go on forever and ever. They are only about 6-1/2' high and very tight. Think Splash mountain but way way smalller. When you are waiting in line with lots of people it's very tough. I consider myself mildly clastraphobic and I about died waiting in line. Once you get on the ride it's fine.

I am claustrophobic. I almost freaked out on Stitch's ride. It's just too long, stinky and confining. It is not pleasant.

I am okay with the Haunted Mansion. The stretching room scenario is fairly short and I am able to control where I stand. I try to stand near the wall and not in the middle of the crowd. I have not had a problem there.

As for Mission Space, I have yet to try that one. I need to work up some courage first.

Jann here on the Dis you can see a photo of the Soarin seats if you click on photos then look in the middle of the page under Happiest Celebration on Earth. When the nice CM let me out of my seat after my second go at riding I asked her how high row three went and she said 30 feet, but then later I asked another one and he said 15. Now 15 I think I could have managed, but at the end of our trip I didn't feel like trying anymore . My BF said the ride only tips and swoops a tiny bit, and that he didn't even hold on to his handlebars at all, there was no need. Also he said to get over the bit about the legs dangling, he just crossed them and said that made a huge difference, so there are tricks one can adopt I guess :) !

When we went on Mummy at Universal there was a kid that sat there before take off yelling that he was going to kick some Mummy booty, and to bring it on and all that. It made me smile because I thought if only I could yell like that before Soarin I might be okay. Of course there was no way, haha :) .

For me I think we went on the ride to quickly. It took me until the second day at MGM before I felt at ease with trying TOT, but we went to Epcot at opening and everyone was just so jazzed with the ride that it was understood we would ride it right away.

I have been going on the haunted mansion ride since it opened in the 70's but one day last year it was really hot and the air was not that cool in the shrinking room and they packed us in there like sardines and I couldn't move. It didn't bother me at first because I know about how long you are in there but for some reason the doors didn't open right when I thought they should have and I just started freaking out thinking what if the doors don't open and I am stuck in here with all of these sweaty people. The delay may have been a couple of minutes but since I have been going on this ride a million times I know when the doors should open. I cannot bring myself to go on this ride anymore because those 2 minutes freaked me out so badly that I just pass this ride. If it doesn't seem too busy I may try it again but I didn't realize I was so claustrophobic. I started getting that way more so after 9/11. Someone suggested taking xanax before riding rides or for an mri. It works well for some people.
