I am pretty proud of myself... I did it and did not get sick as so many have.... I have to say that the castmembers on this ride are so understanding.. they knew I was claustrophobic and told me that once they closed the door, and before the ride started, I had some time.....so if I was feeling closed in.. just knock on the door and they would get me out.. I was fine with the claustrophobic part....

My only issue was at one point, during take-off to me it felt like I was on a rollercoaster and that dropping feeling which I hate....the reason I do not do Big Thunder, Space Mountain or RnR.. I was thankful we had our pod to ourselves, my husband, daughter and myself were riding together so I could vent a bit as they know I hate that feeling.. but I did it and would do it again.. it was really not bad for me.. I have no issues with motion sickness and I do hear that they can be a real problem for those who do..

Another great ride at Epcot's future world.....Bravo to Disney

Good for you! Is it enclosed and dark or just enclosed?

Good for you Marsha!! I did this one my last day there. I had some sinus congestion and my ears hurt from the "pressure" in there but nothing bad at all. I am a bit claustrophobic myself, but only really bad in really dark places.

Haley, it's enclosed and a little dark, but not so dark that you can't see anything at all. During the ride, I was able to look over next to me and see my friend's buttons on her control panel. So yes, I did look to the right of me (I was on the end by the door) and didn't get sick or feel queasy doing that either. So I guess I would say that it is "dimmed light" in there but not really dark, if that makes sense.

An individual pod, which seats four, is completely enclosed and the control panel/display screen unit in front of you tips back toward you once the door is closed. It's not that dark, as you are looking straight ahead at a TV screen and their are assorted lights on the control board. You are held by a bar and your head is held between two pads (do NOT move your head).

"so I could vent a bit as they know I hate that feeling.. "

That reminds me of last week when I rode TOT. I really hate those rides and also get motion sick very easily, but I do TOT and Splash Mountain, just to keep the family "happy" and stop nagging me. (Neither makes me sick, I just hate the feeling), anyway, as we were about to drop, I just kept saying "I hate this ride!!!", Afterword I wondered what the poor guy sitting on the other side of me thought!!! I'm sure the little kid he was with could hear me too. I did it one more time with DH, and kept my mouth shut, but "I thunk it"!!! ;)

Yay, Marsha! I love that ride. Glad your claustrophobia didn't flare up.

I'm proud of you Marsha! It's really a great ride isn't it?

I skipped this ride after my DH "tested" it for me. He has no problmes with motion sickness. I need a dramamine for plane rides and roller coasters etc. He was sick the rest of the night with a spinning head. I felt bad for him. I had a little sickness just thinking about his head spinning! I was able to do all the other fun stuff!! Glad to hear some people make it just fine.

thanks for the claustrophobics point of view..small dark places+me =:o
you have eased my phobic mind! ( at least till they actually shut the door on me next month!)

Yay Marsha! I'm glad you rode on Mission Space! I still think it's weak.

I forgot to say that I sent my husband in first to see if I could do it... then when my daughter arrived later in the week, she tried it with her Dad and came out and said "Mom, you can do this.."

I am not sure if the dropping feeling I had was normal.. according to my husband and daughter, they did not feel that.......I think it was because I was so tense that I was sort of sitting up a bit, not having my head pressed back against the head rest.....I did not feel the "pushing back" feeling that others say they feel.. I felt it as a dropping feeling in my stomach...as I said previously...Next time I do it, I will push myself all the way back and see if that was what caused the roller coaster experience for me..

I will say this, after we got to wherever we were going, I turned to my husband and said, do we have to go back now....I did not realize the ride had ended............I guess I was a little tense. ;) :D

I agree with the other posters it was not that dark and the shoulder straps did not bother me like they did in the Alien Encounter....I think the fact that it was lit somewhat and not so restrained helped with any claustrophobic feeling I might have had.. Also, the screen does come up in front of you but not so much that it is in your face and the other part was that their was constant air flow in the pod which is another good thing for those of us who experience claustrophobia..

I hope this helps the others who may be leary to do this ride....if I can do it...anyone can, providing they do not have motion issues.. :D

AE restrains did not bother me at all so it should be ok at MS...however any unearthly screaming eminating from Epcot 1/12/04 should be ignored...it will only be me finding out how wrong I am about the above statement:jester:

Isn't it a fabulous ride? I'm so glad you were able to not only do it, but enjoy it!

I didn't get a dropping feeling at take off, just a tremendous pressure. But landing on Mars..........ugh! That was a sensation I'm not sure I can describe. Didn't bother me, but I definitely took notice.

Big cheers for trying it, Mackey!

Glad to hear all the positive experiences with Mission Space. Mine was not so positive. My husband went on first to test it because I don't do spinning rides or simulators (I should say I do them once and usually don't like it so won't do again!). My husband did o.k., he just said he felt so much pressure during take off that he got a little disoriented, but he still didn't think I should try it. Well, its something new so I sucked it up and went in (by myself I might add--we have small children he had to stay with). I did terrible, my eyes were tearing during take off and to me the rest felt just like a simulator where my stomach was lurching and I was very dizzy but I had read all the warniings not to close your eyes so I kept them open even though I felt really sick. I could barely walk back to the boardwalk after that and for the rest of the week I was spinning every time I stood still--not a good experience, but I had to do it just once!!

Wasn't it great!!!! We took our friends back to ride it, after we had rode it. I rode it twice in a row, and I don't know what I was thinking! But, it is a super ride! ::yes::
