We had booked our 2006 trip at our home resort, SSR. The dates were 2/19-2/25. I had done some indepth flight pricing and was shocked at the pricing, so we decided to change the trip to 4/29 to 5/7. Doing this I had to borrow 11 pts from my Aug 2006 use year.

Now, staying in accordance with Murphy's law, the prices for airfare have come down to the price that we were looking for and I would like to see if I can change our ressie back.

My question is...since I already took 11 pts from use year '06, can I just ask MS to bank 11 pts from my 2005 use year, or maybe bank them in January?

I know, Mea Culpa to me for playing with the ressies like this. If I have to, I will just add another night at a studio and borrow 18 more pts, but would like to not have to do that, if possible.

Thanks so much! Again, this will be our first trip planned with DVC and I am still trying to work the bugs out....

I am by no means an expert, but if my understanding is correct, you cannot bank the points that you borrowed, but the way around this is to bank that number of points from this year and use the borrowed points for the reservation.

Again, I only THINK this is what you could do.

Good Luck!

Yes you can.

Have fun at SSR. We enjoyed that resort very much when we stayed for a week early in the year. Travel safe.

Just make sure that MS uses the borrowed points for part of the "new" reservation. Then the "extra" points that are returned to your account will be current year points and as already posted, those may be banked subject to the banking rules.

Hope you can get your original reservation back without waitlisting - President's Day week is very popular and the 7 month window is already open. Sending good luck!

Best wishes -

As Carol indicated, it's important that you confirm with MS while making the new reservation that they are using the borrowed points first. That should free up other points you have in the 2005 UY to bank, assuming you are still within the banking time limits.

A good practice is to confirm with MS after every transaction (reservation, cancellation, banking, borrowing) the status of points in all affected years. It can go a long way towards trying to unravel a problem that otherwise wouldn't be discovered until possibly too late to do anything about it.

Good luck on your reservation! :)

Thank you all for your replies! Now I know what to say when I call MS. Eventually I will get the hang of this stuff!
