My children will be 2 (almost 3) & just turned 5 when we have our FIRST trip to WDW! I'm trying to figure out the best way to choose ear hats. I want this to be their first souvenir on location for their first trip.

We will visit Downtown Disney on our first day and MK will be our first park.

1. Where should I have them go to choose their hats?

2. If its in the park, at what point should we stop doing rides to shop?

3. Are Glow Ear hats popular and/or a good choice? I have a feeling my youngest will spot these but I want to guide him with a good choice.

I appreciate any advice and opinions! TIA!

We've always gotten ours at The Chapeau on Main Street in MK. The shop is a stone's throw from the entrance so I'd stop prior to rides. The glow ears are okay, but they're heavy. I honestly wouldn't recommend them.

Well, I would never buy the glow ears, because you can't see them when you are wearing them. But I appreciate all the other people who buy them and let me visually enjoy theirs ;).

I thought I really wanted some of the glow ears for my birthday trip, but when I tried them on, they were really heavy and uncomfortable. For kids, I'd definitely recommend more traditional Mickey ears. There are lots of styles, though, so you might want to let the kids pick their own.

Thank you for the advice on the heaviness of the Glow Ears!

So, should I wait to get the ears at MK vs DTD? The only reason I'm considering DTD is just because I'm not sure that I want to stop to shop in MK. I will if that's clearly the best choice, though.

I would go with regular ears, but let them pick the type/design. Also if you purchase them in MK you can have their names embroidered on there - I don't think they do this at DTD but could be wrong.

DTD will embroider them too, I'd get them there, the selection will be the same as far as I know.

I got the Glow with the Show ears at an event last year. I am a small adult and they were too big. The weight for the battery/procesor makes them fall off easily unless the fit is right. Not going to work for a child's head. Now attached to the front of a stroller (like on the basket of my ECV), they could be fun.
