Clarify - old 1-day ticket upgrading & FL payment plan?

We have some KTTW cards that had 1-day tickets on that we never used... they're from a few years ago, but the value on a 1-day ticket has increased since then. As I understand it, we should use the those KTTW cards (hope they actually work after these years... will they work? or do we need to go to guest services first to get usable tickets and then later after we use them?) Then that same day we take those tickets to guest services and can upgrade to whatever other pass we want and get the current gate price of the 1-day ticket credited toward our upgrade. Right?

Now, since we're FL residents, we want to upgrade to the FL Resident Weekday Select pass. Are we able to use those tickets attached to the KTTW cards as the down payment for the monthly payment plan? How does that work? Do we also have to leave a card on file to be charged each month? I don't want them to charge the card "accidentally" if those tickets are usable as the down payment. Just trying to be well-informed and prepared... we shouldn't need to actually lay out money for these tickets? Or would we?

I just remember a fiasco a few years ago when we had tickets as part of that B4G3 promo (with non-expiring option, so the extra 3 days worth we got for free were considerably more valuable than the 4-day tickets we actually paid for)... a CM actually insisted that we couldn't get the current gate price despite the fact we used these for a day already. Asked to speak to his supervisor, and he WAS the supervisor! We ended up going to another park - another guest services, and we had perfect service there - exactly what we expected to have happen... and then some - went above and beyond to help us and gave us FPs for having to wait for a new guy who was learning to use the computer system. (Compared to the first attempt, we really didn't think anything of this wait!)

Anyway, can somebody ease my mind and help me make sure that I've got a firm grasp on what to expect this time around?

I think you might have to go to Guest Services to ask. Did your old tickets have an expiration date on them?

Or you can call WDW guest relations and ask them, if the first person on the phone says no, call back once more just to make sure both CMs on the line say "no" and then it's a no for sure. You can still ask GR at the gate when you get there. Even if you've already bought the pass, they might credit you the difference and reduce the amount you owe on the AP.

I have a card on file for my AP, and they charge me every month. I got the Season Pass and I had to pay $80 and change as a down payment, so keep that in mind. A Weekday Select Pass would be cheaper, but you will still have to pay a down payment.

Also, from what I remember KTTW cards are for your room and charging privilages and then you get your ticket or AP ticket and those all look the same. I didn't know a KTTW card could have a ticket on it? Maybe it's an older system I am unaware of, but my AP ticket is not my KTTW card.

An AP cannot be put on a KTTW card. Well, technically it could but they don't do it, and an AP purchased at the Resort Concierge Desk will be on a KTTW stock card, but it is only an AP.

MYW tickets can be placed on a KTTW card. All WDW packages will have the ticket on the KTTW card by default.

To the OP, if the KTTW cards are from 2005 or later, you should have no problem using the ticket as-is and upgrading.

I'm not an expert on the installment plan, but I believe you can use the 1-day ticket as the initial down payment, but only if you use it (to give it the value of the current gate price for a 1-day ticket) or if it currently has the value of a current 1-day ticket. From Cheshire Figment's sticky thread, post 21:

The required down payment is the amount of a one-day, one-park, ticket, including tax. The down payment may be made using cash, a gift card, hotel charge, or any other method currently allowed for ticket purchases.

A ticket used within the past 14 days is typically acceptable, so I think it will work.

Note that there is a new policy taking effect Wednesday, requiring this to be done BEFORE all the days are used up. There are still a few questions about the policy that Cheshire Figment hopes to get answered then.

BUMP :upsidedow

(Hoping for a more solid "expert" opinion, especially considering some new policy changes...)
