Clarification on photo packages and 2 staterooms?

I have been trying for a week to contact the photo company that works for Disney Cruise Line and have not been able to reach a representative. Can anyone confirm what their policy is when your family is staying in 2 staterooms? We are currently booked with my husband and myself in one room and our 2 adult children in the 2nd stateroom. I plan our pre purchasing the package that allows you to unlock 10 images.

This is the rule, taken from the DCL prep school site :

“When members of your immediate family are sailing in multiple staterooms, you only need to purchase one package. You must go to Shutters onboard to add a stateroom to your package as there is no way to do it online. To be eligible to link staterooms, the guests in the additional stateroom must include the children (under age 21) of the adult booking the photo package. Linking is only available for immediate family members. Extended family members such as aunts, uncles, grandparents or cousins are not eligible for linking.”

Agree with PP; however, you can pre-purchase the photo plan you want and then talk to Shutters when onboard. They 'tossed in' my MIL from another stateroom for free last cruise. Worst thing that happens is that they say that you have to have one of the people from the purchased stateroom in the picture (i.e. no pictures with only your adult children), and then you can decide if you want to cancel the photo package or keep it. Best thing that can happen is that since they are still your children they go ahead and include them.

Makes me wonder how it is supposed to work in our case. 2 staterooms (adjoining). My wife, myself, and our youngest is in our stateroom. My older son, and my parents (his grandparents) are in the other stateroom (Oldest son will be sleeping in our room.. for some reason during booking, the booking agent at DCL recommended this arrangement as it would be less expensive or something). So technically, in linking the stateroom, I can claim immediate family members from my parents, my son can claim immediate family members for my wife and I, and his brother (though he might not want to for his brother ). But there are grandparents involved.. and a disowned younger brother. Humm..

(we had the same arrangement on our first cruise, and had no issue linking our staterooms together.. so I am guessing it'll work just fine)

Technically, you would get any picture that had you, your wife, and either son in it. Your parents aren't included; the photo definition of immediate family members is parents and their minor children. Your parents fall under the 'grandparent' category.

Having said that, you often get a better deal than the advertised rules. My guess is that they have a strict rule to prevent a multi-generational family with 10 staterooms from sharing only one photo package, and that the employees are granted wide discretion to make exceptions for obvious cases of an extended family spread out between 2 (or 3) staterooms.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but don’t all of the above scenarios only apply if you are buying the unlimited package? The OP stated they only want to buy the 10 photo package - surely it can be any 10 photos, regardless of who is in them?

But what if it is not our stateroom, but my parents stateroom that purchases the photo pass? Then they are the grandparents, but my son in their stateroom is not.. I am my sons parent..

The unlimited photo package is one per stateroom. Only exception is when a nuclear family (Mother, Father, and their minor children) are in two staterooms. Then both can be included in one package. Or a minor child (as in your case) can be added to your photo package. But not the grandparents.

If your parents purchase the unlimited photo package, any photos taken with either them or your son in them will be included, regardless of who else is in the photo.

There's also the option of you purchasing the unlimited photo package pre-cruise (gets a discount), and then adding another unlimited package to your parents room once onboard at 50% off (the onboard price).

As noted, the restrictions apply on the unlimited package. The number-specific packages, you can pick any photos you wish (from any room).

Thanks @PrincessShmoo. In this case, I have no horse in the race. My wife and mom likely worked out all the details, I'll put on my Sunday best, go where I am told to go, smile, make bunny ears above the kids heads, get elbowed by my wife and mom, and everyone will be happy.

Or like on our last cruise, we'll be told to do the fist-arm-swing "arrrrgh" pirate thing, and I'll accidentally knock my youngest who was standing in front of me, in the side of the head, resulting in a hilarious picture that makes me feel bad every time I see it.
