I thought I'd start a separate thread for class reviews in case there were people attending CKCs later this year that might find them helpful. Hopefully some of the other attendees can chime in with their classes.

Classes:Basically I loved all my classes except one, so I don’t have a ton to say beyond showing the pictures. I would highly recommend all of them except the card one.

Disney, Disney and more Disney! - Lickety Split
Great class! We completed 3 double page layouts. Everything was pre-cut for us, so it was just a matter of assembling them, and all the sets are adorable!!

For this last one, she didn't have us cut down the white paper to use as mats until we got home and decided what pictures we'd use, but here's the instruction sheet to see one way of adding the white mats. (The "A Day at Disney" is a rubon I'll add once the pictures are down.)

Sunshine of my Life – Quick QuotesI love the Quick Quotes classes. The instructor is really great and I just really like their style. This was a 2 page layout.

This Girl… - Quick Quotes
In class we did a 12x12 canvas layout, and you also received enough paper and embellishments for 3 more pages.

Set for a Year: Creative Cardmaking – Helix USA
The one class that was kind of a dud. We made 6 cards in class, with enough materials to make 6 more at home, but because I didn’t put any of the sentiments on them yet, I’ll just show you a photo of the instruction sheet. We got to use this large embossing/scoring device (can’t remember what it was called) which wasn’t all that easy to use. Definitely wouldn’t recommend this one.

Making Magical Memories – Queen and Company
2 page layout – gorgeous! After this class I hit their booth, where everything was a dollar, and stocked up on more felt, brads and rhinestones. Great deal!

Here are their examples so you can see how the photos and journalling would fit in.

All the leftover goodies we still had after the layouts were complete:

Boy or Girl Chipboard Wall Hanging – Keller Creations
You could choose whether you wanted to do the boy version or the girl version – I did the girl. So cute!!

Sketchabilities – Keller Creations
We did 4 double page layouts in this class, based on sketches using the company’s pre-cut pieces like rings, circles, scallops, etc. Very cute pages/sketches, and I also hit their booth to pick up some more pieces to make more layouts like this.

Vendor faire:
I think overall this was very similar to years past – no better or worse. I still spent way too much money of course. Like last year, a lot of booths selling page kits or pre-made pages, lots of laser cut pages, titles, die cuts, etc. I did think there were more deals to be had this year than in year’s past. There was the dollar booth as always, but also several other booths had whole sections of dollar stuff. Almost anything you were looking for, you could find somewhere in the hall.

I shouldn't admit to this - but here's a shot of all my "loot." :scared1:

woman. No way am I posting a picture of my stash. My husband just looked at me and shook his head. Course as I got looking at the Tammi Potter book and saying look this is cool he actully got up and started looking at the pics.

Did you attend the thursday night crop? We are thinking about doing that one and staying over night spending friday there then coming home friday night or maybe sat am. Do the classed have the same type of "theme" each year. Like disney, cards, ect. Some of the group want to do the organization class and then the tammi potter one. I'm not sure about the others yet.

Great review!

There is no way I could ever post a picture of everything. It's probably better if I just unpack everything a little at a time. I think I'll arrange to not be home the day the credit card bill arrives. :rolleyes1

NEE, thanks for posting your layouts, those are nice. I personally like the cards and probably will use them for ideas. I really like the girl chipboard wall hanging. That looks cute. You picked out great classes to attend.

NEE, thank you SO much for letting us live through you vicariously! Was the large item you used in the card class a "scor-pal"? Grey plastic with channels in it and a um scoring tool? if so - $34 bucks and a good sized learning curve until one gets 'the touch' right.

joyah - I've never done the crops at CKC, so I can't help you there. I do know that they are held at round tables (one of my classes this year was in the room where they hold the crops so I got to see it for the first time) and if the crop is crowded you don't get very much space at all to work at. But Thursday night would for sure be less crowded then Fri and Sat.

As far as the classes go, while it varies year to year, there definitely are recurring themes. There is always a couple Disney classes, several card classes, lots of mini-books, layouts, home decor projects - something for everyone.

Michelle- too bad you didn't split the purchases up between a couple credit cards so it wouldn't look as bad! Or too bad DH didn't forget about the cash you brought too. :rolleyes1

Lisa - the cards themselves are cute, and I definitely will use some of them. I think I was mainly turned off by the sort of cheesy quality printed sentiments included in the pack. One of them had a copyright date on it of 1999!

Linda - I knew you would like the pictures! Nope, I know what a scor-pal is. This was a product made by Helix company that they sell on QVC. It is used for scoring and embossing. Maybe someone else will remember the name. Kind of the same idea as a scor-pal, but it had interchangeable plates inside for the different functions. Not an impressive tool, that's for sure.

NEE
thanks for the info. I'm thinking round tables yuck but then if there are 3 or 4 of us that would be 1 table hopefully and at least we'd be sprald out over each other and not a stranger.
We are definately looking at it. Now the trick is to train the husbands to handle the children on those days. Mine and BF's (maggie who Lisa met) will be fine, now if one of the ones who couldn't make it this weekend tries well uhm it might not be pretty. the other 2 are all set no kids to worry about there.
We are pitiful to be planning next year and this years probably isn't even packed up yet.

It was the "Paper Craft Station". Gosh - that class was miserable. My cards did turn out okay - the ones I made at home that didn't crack. That thing - I don't know how to not make them crack with that thing. Only some of them didn't, but I don't know what I did to make them not crack.

And it was SEVENTY dollars. Makes the scor-pal look great!

Classes I really liked are:

* "1 stamp set; 10 techniques". (creating keepsakes) The supplies were enough for 2 layouts and 1 card. We did all of the stamping in class and then needed to assemble at home. Learned some new things.

* "Everyday Life" (Technique Tuesday) Got a stamp set and completed 1 page and took a card to complete at home. Learned some great new techniques and some of their products rock!

* "Flocked and Fabulous" (creating keepsakes). I was always very intimidated by flocking. It is so easy and so pretty when done. This class gave you supplies for 2 pages and a card. You completed 2 pages in class. I would say that this class was flocking fabulous!!!!!

I also took sketchabilities which was great and Disney, Disney, Disney. I only took one class that was ehh. Top 5 techniques and trends. I did learn a few new things. I just wasn't crazy about the class or the product.

I will try and post pictures from the classes later tonight.

Thanks so much for posting your pictures!! :) Sounds like a lot of fun! Do you know who makes the items on the This Girl page? I wold love to make a page like that for dd10!

I knew someone would know! Were they cracking because you were pushing too hard? It was so hard to get the right amount of pressure.

They are by Quick Quotes - www.shopquickquotes.com. The paper line is called Irresistible. They don't sell the class kits on the website until after all the conventions for the year are over, but you could probably buy most of the components. Let me know if you want me to scan you in a copy of the directions.

Ok, what is in the "beer" bottles? LOL

You mean the bottles in the midst of the loot? They're not that big - they are Glimmer Mist Sprays. http://mytatteredangels.com/shop.php?cPath=25

The Saturday night crop at CKC Hartford last year was not crowded at all - we did sit at round tables. I sat with 4 other women (all strangers to each other) and we had plenty of space. They said the Friday night crop was the worst for crowds. And the Thursday night crop was an album crop, so they didn't get any of their own stuff done. I found the "hostess" and her incessant chatter on the microphone very annoying, but other than that, I'd do it again - especially if there were DISers to do it with!
