What's the deal with the halfway demolished building that used to be the Nascar Sports Grille in City Walk across from the entrance to Universal? Anyone know their plans?

It seems odd that they would leave it in such a state for even just a few days without doing a better job of masking it with a scrim or something.

Still has not been announced for what is replacing it. I hear that they are shooting for a summer opening for the new establishment.

I think, at least initially, they needed to remove the building's facade and keep the opening exposed in order to use cranes and things to remove cars and other large set pieces that were displayed on the second floor or hanging from the ceiling up there. However, that part of the demolition appears to have been completed so I really don't understand why they haven't put up tarps or plastic sheeting to at least mask the construction site.

Rumor is an NBC Sports Bar kinda like an ESPNZone.

NBC/Comcast is very aggressively entering and competing in the 24 hr sports chan market and online market, having bought PFT.com, etc. So it makes sense if it's true...

I am kind of glad they closed that. The food there was all fried! They had some good happy hour deals, but I try to eat somewhat healthy.. and we could never hang out there too long because everything was battered or between 2 pcs of bread.

It is a great location, and I hope something cool goes in.

We always had beautiful food there and I don't think I ever had anything like you describe. We ate there 4 times last trip. Fresh every time.

Lovely salads, beautiful teriyaki chicken, steak, ribs, pulled pork......I could go on........I think only boogity shrimp we ordered was lightly battered and it was so light you would hardly notice.

Of course if you order a sandwich you would expect it between two slices of bread.

We'll miss it a lot.

Hope a sports type bar does go in.......or a great bbq place.....something fun

Agree. And it almost has to be a Sports Bar if you think about it.

With Sapphire Falls and especially the greatly expanded Convention Space - conventioneers and sports bars are like peanut butter and jelly, or moths to a flame.....

Glad to hear they are redoing it - I wasn't sure if it was because of a fire or some other dire strait.

I was really pleased with the dining selections between the parks, resorts, and City Walk. My only complaint is that the Hurricanes from Pat O'Briens kicked my butt. But I suppose I asked for it
