City, Sand, and Savanna - Link to new trip report

By the way, I know that I'm terribly behind on replies....hopefully I can get to them tomorrow. I just want to "veg" tonight.

This is true! Just got home a little while ago from a normally 6-hour trip which took almost 9 in today's storm. Happy to be home, safe.

Jordan, it's so good to see you on here! Thanks for popping in. I appreciate the updates from Kentucky too.

Glad you are safe. Stay safe warm and we will be here when you are ready.

Recover from that trip. :faint:

Well this is where I may post some pix from my DL/DCA trip...

Thank YOU for being a good friend to me..:thumbsup2

well since you clearly didnt see the correct number of judys last chapter i will have to point them out this chapter for some people. even though i will most likely get screwed and not be given credit for spotting her.:snooty:

your lovely wife was sitting to the side of you and this is her hair in this image.

and she is clearly here as well.

2 judy sightings.

Was that Judy swinging from the rope? Oh NO - sorry - that was the GMR. :rotfl2: 1 Judy!

Wait - 2 judy's. I think that IS her hair. :rotfl:

I agree with Dan about the Hair BUt I say 3 Judy's !!Clearly there is JudyGarland !!!:rotfl2::rotfl2:

I may have to say 3 Judys

First one - she IS wearing green could that be her reflection in the window???

Second One-I agree the hair on the right could be Judy's...or maybe the left and the right is Grams?????

Third One - And well this one is pretty obvious.....

Well, even with the forensic analysis capabilities the Rules Committee has at their disposal, (even going so far as to ask Judy herself), they could neither confirm nor deny whether that was Judy's hair that Dan spotted on one of the Great Movie Ride pictures.....so, the point for this round goes to Marv. However, an Eagle Eye point :magnify: will be granted to Dan for his keen eye. Also, an Eagle Eye point :magnify: is awarded to Rosie for making me laugh with her Judy Garland spotting. That was pretty clever.
:cheer2:

Updated scores:

Marvin - 10 Judy-sighting wins, 4 Eagle Eye points :magnify:
Pat - 6 Judy-sighting wins, 1 Eagle Eye point :magnify:
Mark - 4 Judy-sighting wins
Rosie - 3 Judy-sighting wins, 1 Eagle Eye point :magnify:
Dee - 3 Judy-sighting wins
Dan - 3 Eagle Eye points :magnify:
Kelly - 2 Judy-sighting wins
Magdalene - 2 Judy-sighting wins
Katharina - 2 Judy-sighting wins
Jenn (elphie101) - 1 Judy-sighting win, First Subscriber Honors!
Tanya - 1 Judy-sighting win
Molly - 1 Judy-sighting win
Kathy - 1 Judy-sighting win
Mary Ellen - 1 Judy-sighting win
MissLiz - 1 Judy-sighting win

Just checking in to say hi to all the peeps!!!!

I'm home in CA for til the 31st and able to pop in and out over the next few days!

Merry Christmas to y'all!

Miss everyone more than you will ever know!

Good to hear from you! :goodvibes

So glad Marlene tried the American Idol Adventure again! After the last time I know she was disappointed in the outcome this time.

Yes, she was pretty disappointed last time, but has been practicing with every shower that she's taken since. ::yes::

Sadly, I guess they do have to limit which songs they can use for the auditions, but not having a good choice really sucks!

I think it's basically the list of tracks that they have for people to sing along to during the show, if you were asked to be on.

Wow, the Western side of the GMR does still exist!!! :rotfl2:

Yes, I can confirm it!!

Yes, you can see by the excited replies she is a legend here.
"We once spent time with this wonderfully warm woman named Liesa.
She regaled us with tales from the Stepp.
She planned and ran and ran some more.
She made her quest to the world and met some more wonderful people.
She settled down by the river, started school.... and we don't see much of her...
But I hear tell if the wind is right, and class is over, she might just appear again, so be ready my DIS friends!"

Wow, Tammie's waxing poetic! :worship:

Looks like you did a good job of "doing stuff" in spite of Debby Downer.:thumbsup2

We did. Come rain or shine, once we hit the park, we set out to "do stuff".

Too bad Marlene missed out on being part of the show. Good for her for being brave and trying out, though!

Thanks Tammie. She did give it quite a shot.

I saw the cowboy show on TGMR the first time we were there, and then never again... I wonder why it's so elusive. It seems like we missed out on the Aliens a time or two also. Maybe they weren't working?:confused3

Yeah, it's strange that it seems not to be used as much as the gangster scene. :confused3

The Alien thing is just part of the normal boat ride, so yes, maybe it just wasn't working and lit up.

You all look cute in your ponchos. Too bad you didn't get the Singing in the Rain pose. I guess you can sing in the rain but not photograph in the rain.

Oh that's funny.....I never even thought to look for it! Doh!

Just a little to the right, Marlene, and we'll have a nice little Hidden Mickey going on.

You're almost like Pat -- who's starting to see them in nature. :rotfl2:

Good for you guys, especially your mom and dad, for braving the storm. I know what HS is like in that kind of weather. We were there during Tropical Storm Faye.

Thanks. I much prefer a poncho-less Disney experience.

Bummer about AI, but at least you knew early on and didn't have to hang around for the whole day. There's always next time!

Yep, I think she'll want to give it another try.

Great call on the Great Movie Ride! Did your parents love it? We had the Cowboy scene once and it was AWESOME!

Hmmm, you're making me think back to their reaction. They liked it, but I don't think they were blown away. It was fine though, a good choice.

I did like the Cowboy scene better than the Gangster. I liked the shoot-out, and fire is always good.

What a riot with Poppy being the Rebel Spy. Too bad it came at a price. Hopefully he is feeling better for lunch.

I guess it was a good thing he was the rebel spy on that trip, because there won't be another opportunity. He'll never ride that thing again! (I won't leave you hanging -- he does recover in time for lunch.)

Geoff teases me because whenever we decide to go up to Disney the next day, I *always* have trouble sleeping and I'm always up super early.

Aw, that's great that you still are affected that way even now that you're living closer and probably going a little more frequently. :goodvibes

Also - that's the day where I was sitting around and bored (because it was pouring) and randomly decided that I wanted to play in the rain. So I went to Epcot. It was fantastic! No one was around!

What a great idea. I wish I could just up and do that on the next rainy day.

I'm pretty sure Studios Central has all the song choices on their website, so she can go online before your trip and rehearse a song!

Ahh, that would've been a great idea. Then she could have picked one out that worked for her rather than trying to do it on the spot, and selecting one that didn't suit her well. Live and learn.

Just go, I don't think the heavy stuff's gonna come down for quite a while.

Caddyshack!

Or you could make up a really cool story about what Judy and Gram and Poppy did. Nobody would know the difference. :thumbsup2:rotfl:

So you're saying that "browsing in a couple of shops on their way up Hollywood Boulevard" isn't a really cool story? :confused3

Darn... Poor Marlene. Maybe next time! :thumbsup2

Missed it, by that much.

Ok, that's kind of a plan. I pretty much operate the same way. I know which ones need to be done early and which ones can be skipped till later in the day and then just go with it! :thumbsup2:rotfl2:

Exactly....not planned down to the exact ride order, but kinda which ones I want to make sure I get in at some point.

Awesome! I like Gram!!! :thumbsup2:rotfl2::rotfl:

She's a trooper. And that certainly helped me with the "should we/shouldn't we" debate going on in my head.

Well, that isn't really a spoiler anyway, because you might not even get that particular ending. ;)

Very true. I love that ending though. :yay:

Uh oh... I just hope it didn't make him miserable for the rest of the day.

He came around, don't worry.

good update glenn, i think it goes back and forth between the scenes glad you got the one you wanted.

I think so too, but it just seems like the gangster one comes up more often, which is really kind of strange.

those alien dudes scare the crap out of me.
never did like them in that ride.

That was a scary movie. Especially when that one came popping out of that guy's abdomen. :scared1:

Yeah for for the Cowboy side of the ride. Score.

I've been on that ride twice, and I've seen both scenes. I think I can move on to other rides now. :)

I'm glad You decided to go to the park despite the rain.

Yep, we were there to do stuff!

And yeah for Marlene for trying out again. I think the key is to know a couple of those songs on the list cold. It's more a contest of mimicking the song exactly then it is on individuality.

Yeah, we should've looked that list over at home and had her work on one or two of those. Oh well.

That's such a cute picture on the bus with James and Poppy!

Thanks! I like it too.

Yes, she knows what she wants. In fact she has known what she wants since she was THREE! :rotfl: And is as stubborn as a mule about it, wouldn't know where she got that from. :confused3 :rolleyes1

Ha! Something tells me that you do have an idea where she gets it. :rotfl2:

POPPY WAS THE REBEL SPY?!?! Cool!

Yep. I wonder if his Anniversary button helped him get picked.

And I know what scene you're talking about, that's my favorite ending for sure

::yes:: I love that ending too.

YAY for the cowboy scene and for Poppy being the Rebel Spy.

Some memorable moments, for sure.

Despite the rain, it looks like you got a lot done. It has been said here on the DIS that HS is the best park for a rainy day. I was wondering what your thoughts were on that. True ??

Hmmm, interesting question. I hadn't really thought about that, but I think there might be some truth to it. There are quite a few "inside" things to do, and it's not as spread out as the other parks when you're walking from place to place. Yes, I think it might be! :thumbsup2

I wonder WHY they can't do the cowboy scene more. :confused3 We have only gotten it once.

I don't know, but it sure seems that people report getting the gangster scene a lot more frequently. Very strange.

I think I have once seen the Cowboy version of GMR!!! To bad about The American Idol Audition!! But I give her credit for trying !!:thumbsup2

She enjoyed auditioning, and got some good feedback, I think.

Great updates as always! :) glad you all had a good time in spite of the weather. We had our own encounter with the dreaded drops of doom today, except it was about 40 degrees F! Brr!

Thanks Squidgyness. Oh no, cold and wet is muuuch worse than just wet. Sorry to hear that.

I loved the pictures of the cowboy set. They really do go into such detail. I felt sure you'd hit jackpot with the audition... What a shame. Still, by the sounds of it she did excellently, if only they'd have had a better song.

Yeah, I think her vocal range is not as wide as it needs to be for some songs. Something she needs to work on.

Love the picture of James talking to his grandpa on the bus. :goodvibes

Thanks. Making some memories, I hope.

Great photopass picture of the four of you.

You like our drowned-rat look?

Sorry Marlene didn't make it...but there is always next trip.

She'll keep working toward it, I'm sure!

I'm nowhere near it in my TR, but we got the cowboy on the GMR this trip too. :thumbsup2

Oh, that's good to hear that they're working it in. Had it been a while since you've seen it?

I've heard of that...

You've read about other DIS-dads having that problem?

:sad2: Barry? Is that you?

He's a bad influence!

She's not sending you a message, is she?:confused3

It's very possible.

Booooo! Where's Maryann when you need her?

Really! If it were MaryAnn, probably all 3 of my kids would've been in.

Mostly because there are no others. :rotfl:

Oh, you noticed that huh?

Yeah, me too. It's a good accident. :thumbsup2

Thanks!

It's ok, nobody here knows any better.

I only found out because I went to Google to find out how to spell Macduff. :lmao:

"We're here to do stuff" - I like that motto!! :thumbsup2

That's the spirit, right?!

Too bad Marlene didn't make it into the show, but that is a fun experience to audition nonetheless!

Yes, she was a little disappointed but was glad that she tried.

What a way to start your first day! Debby was on her way and you went to an American Idol audition! Wow. I gotta give huge props to Marlene for auditioning. My friends tried to push me when I went on the Chorus trip (figures) and I just couldn't do it and I had been in theater for years. Takes lots of guts I gotta say. A shame she didn't make it through. :thumbsup2 to the song choice of Misery (Love Maroon 5!)

Oh, you should definitely do it if you can sing at all. It's just you and the auditioner, like you see in my pictures. That shouldn't be too nerve-wracking. The worst that could happen is you'd get picked and have to sing in front of the whole audience!

I'm so jealous you guys got the Cowboy scene. I'll probably love the Gangster side even more after having watched Pulp Fiction, the first two Godfathers and maybe a few other movies before I go back, but the Cowboy scene just looks so cool! I wonder if they'll be more prone to do it near summertime.

Movie-wise, I think I prefer gangster movies like you listed....Pulp Fiction and the Godfathers. (Love the Godfather movies.) A good Coen Brothers one is "Miller's Crossing". But I think I liked the cowboy scene a little better on the GMR, with the shootout and building catching on fire.

And that's so great you all got to ride Star Tours together. "We're here to do stuff!" I'm pretty sure I've said that in WDW before lol And that's awesome Poppy was the Rebel Spy, a real trooper right there!

Hope the rain let up a little bit longer for you guys on this day. Can't wait to read more! :mickeyjum

We were there to do stuff. I think the rain hung around, but we pressed on.

I love the poncho pictures!!!

Not exactly what I had in mind when I pre-ordered the photo cd, but it captured the moment!

Bummer about idol but something to work towards, I've heard a lot of folks get hung up at that list of songs you have to choose from.

Yeah, something she'll need to work on.

:thumbsup2 for the cowboy!

I was really happy that we got it, so that I could see both!

and :thumbsup2:thumbsup2 for "doing stuff"!

That helped me with what I thought they might want to do....although I still figured that ToT and RNRC were out. :lmao:

For some reason I thought you guys got hit more by Debby while at Vero but it doesn't seem like that part was as bad as I'd thought.

No, the weather at Vero was pre-Debby stuff. Still kind of rainy, but not as bad as this particular day.

Just popping in to wish you all a Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas to The Glennbos !!!!

Thanks again! We had a nice Christmas, visiting family. I hope all of you folks did as well. :goodvibes

Just checking in to say hi to all the peeps!!!!

:welcome: Jordan! It's great that you have an opportunity to check in and say hi!

I'm home in CA for til the 31st and able to pop in and out over the next few days!

Merry Christmas to y'all!

Miss everyone more than you will ever know!

:cool1: I hope you have a great visit in CA.

I am so far behind on your trip report! I have a few more days off so maybe I can get caught up.

Hope you and your family have a Merry Christmas!

That's okay Rozz, I'm way behind on every TR that I'm following. I'm hoping to make some progress in the next few days too!

We did have a nice Christmas, I hope you did too.

Great TR, Glenn!! I have been lurking and trying to catch up on this entire vacation.

Hi Cherie! Thanks. I just read your post to Judy, since she's sitting here and she met you back at the Kidani Community Hall a couple of summers ago. :goodvibes

Wow, what an awesome adventure!popcorn:: From the girls' NY trip, to Vero Beach, and now in WDW!! I've had a great time and your pic's are fantastic as usual.

Great! Thanks, I'm glad you're enjoying it. :)

When I watched the video of the Today show, I was cracking up laughing. Your daughter is so cute! What a huge smile she had. She looked truly happy to be there. :thumbsup2

It was an amazing moment from my end too, watching them on tv. Kind of unbelievable. And then there's my mother-in-law, who confessed to waving to her before catching herself, realizing that Lauren couldn't see her. :rotfl2:

Thanks so much for sharing your Vero experience with us in detail! We've been wanting to go there but I have not really read many TR's about it. :yay:

You're welcome. I really wanted to write one about Vero, because I noticed the same thing -- I couldn't really find any trip reports about it ahead of time.

Hope you guys are having a very Merry Christmas!

Thanks, we did! I hope you guys are having a great family-time together too.

Merry Christmas Glennbo Familiy!

Thanks! You too, Disneybuckeye!

Had a little downtown while trying to digest so I am finally caught back up.

Here's to digestion!

A few comments:

Glad you finally found your parents. I always forget about plane delays. Glad that is all it was.

Thank you. We were a little worried there for a while.

Thanks for the videos of Yee Haw Bob. I swear one of these trips we are going to make it over there.

You need to. Well worth it!

Too bad about the rain but glad to see you are making the best of it. Can't believe Judy had never been on the Great Movie Ride. Yes, it is somewhat cheesy, but I really enjoy it. I always sing The Wizard of Oz songs and love trying to name all the movies in the final montage.

Yes, I can't remember everything in that final montage right now, but I think I recognized most of them. It was definitely fun trying to name them.

Looking forward to more!

Yay!

Why...I think it might be the great day-after-Christmas miracle! I am caught up on your TR and this:

Hi, Jordan!

Yes, a nice surprise. And I'm glad you're caught up. :thumbsup2

Anyway...back to our regularly scheduled, non-holiday programming.

Right!

Very Beach looks beautiful and more relaxed than I remember the Daytona area being.

Spring Break parties?

Although, I think I was about eight the last time I was in Daytona, so really you can't go by me!

Oh, I guess wasn't Spring Break! :rotfl2:

I suppose its good that the kids figured out they aren't "beach people." Personally, I grew up going to the beach for long periods of time every summer, yet my son doesn't love it the way I do... go figure! He is a big fan of the fake beach at the Beach Club, though. :lmao:

I still want to try that beach out! We need to stay there sometime.

I have to admit I did wonder why you planned Vero before Disney. I've often thought that a lovely trip to the beach or a cruise as part of a WDW vacation would be great...at the end.

I know, I know.....live and learn! Next time, I'll know better.

Sorry about your parent's flight delay.

That balcony looks incredible, as does your view.

We were at the end of the savanna, but we got a fair amount of critters.

Yee-haw Bob, but of course!

Our first-night tradition for 3 trips now, I think.

The pictures look like you had a great time. And "temporary living quarters for youthful gentlemen." Love it! I just think its amazing, in all the pictures I see of Yee-haw, that he does such an amazing job of getting everyone involved, even teenagers!

He does! He gets everyone involved, having fun. His energy is infectious!

POR does look so pretty. I haven't been there since 2010, though, and we've never stayed there. Someday, maybe.

It's our favorite moderate resort, although I can't claim that I've stayed at all of them, so that's not really a fair statement. But we like it, and if it had more room for our family of 5, we wouldn't mind staying there all of the time.

So far, DHS looks fun and...um...wet. So sorry about the rain.

Yeah, it was a pretty wet day. Oh well, it still beats being at work, right?

Hope you and the family had a very Merry Christmas!

Thanks Tina. I hope you and your family enjoyed the holidays too.

Just discovered your TR and spent all afternoon catching up!

:welcome: heaven2dc! I'm honored that you spent an afternoon to read my trip report. :goodvibes

I absolutely loved reading all about your wife and daughter's NY trip, their spot of fame on the Today Show and all the sights! (My son and his gf are in New York celebrating Christmas and New Years with her family and they are headed out to see the sights the next few days).

Thanks! I thought it was appropriate to include, since we used DVC points traded through RCI for their NYC hotel room. I'm sure your son and his girlfriend will find lots of things to do and see in New York...it's quite a bustling town!

Vero Beach looks so relaxing - what a lovely resort! It would be fun to see the turtle nesting like you did - you really got to do a lot before heading to WDW. Too bad the storm arrived on your arrival day but looks like you all made the best of it - what a fun family to travel with :thumbsup2

We try to have fun together. We have our moments, like all families do, I suspect, but for the most part we get along pretty well. The turtle nesting was a real highlight of the trip -- something that we'll all remember for a very long time! I was so glad that it finally worked out, on our second attempt.

Say hi to Jim and Oregon for me. I miss the Pacific Northwest.

She moved! She's in AZ now.

Glad you are safe. Stay safe warm and we will be here when you are ready.

Recover from that trip. :faint:

Thanks Pat! As you can see, I sat here and got caught up on replies. Getting caught up on other TRs is another hurdle! :faint:

Well this is where I may post some pix from my DL/DCA trip...

That'd be great! That way, I won't have to go looking very far. ;)

Thank YOU for being a good friend to me..:thumbsup2

As if that's a hard thing to do! I could be a better friend if I wrote more often :(, but you can see how hard it is just for me to get to replies on my own thread!

ill take what i can get i guess.:groom:

:goodvibes

Hi Cherie! Thanks. I just read your post to Judy, since she's sitting here and she met you back at the Kidani Community Hall a couple of summers ago. :goodvibes

Hi Judy!!! :wave2::wave2::wave2:

It was an amazing moment from my end too, watching them on tv. Kind of unbelievable. And then there's my mother-in-law, who confessed to waving to her before catching herself, realizing that Lauren couldn't see her. :rotfl2:

:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2: I can see myself doing this! (See above post)

You're welcome. I really wanted to write one about Vero, because I noticed the same thing -- I couldn't really find any trip reports about it ahead of time.
:thumbsup2 Well I really enjoyed it and can't wait to show it to Chris when he gets home!

Thanks, we did! I hope you guys are having a great family-time together too.

Thank you. We are! Chris is almost home. We will be doing our big family gumbo on Saturday. Oh wait.....I haven't been here in a while. Let me explain. :rotfl: Chris now works oversea's. He has been in Scotland and is about to move the rig to Norway. Perhaps one day DS and I can go see what he see's! I just have to figure out how to travel abroad with a child who has severe food allergies. Hmmmm.....

I've been away for awhile... but I'm all caught up now. Hope you and your family had a great Christmas!

I love the Perry hat bought at DTD! I'm a huge P&F fan... even more so now that my son is starting to watch the show.

I hope your parents reconsidered their choice to not use an ECV during the trip, I know that by the end of some days at WDW I wish I could sit and have someone push me around! It's funny that you mentioned the whole issue because it's a conversation with have with my in-laws all the time! We keep telling them to come with us one year and they always say "we can't do all that walking", so we say "we can rent an ECV" and they say "no, no we don't need that" :confused3

We loved the new Star Wars too, it was very cool! I hope you enjoyed the rest of the day at DHS despite the rain.

To hoping 2013 is a wonderful year and brings many more magical moments (and Disney trips)!

HappyNewYearDIS_KIP2012_PS_zps2a08e68a.png

Thanks Tammie!

I hope you are doing well...Having a VERY relaxing time here in CA. Much needed.

Say hi to Jim and Oregon for me. I miss the Pacific Northwest.

Yes, as Glenn said, we moved to AZ. We have had a hard transition - we are pretty sure we are supposed to be here - but we sure do wonder what God's real plan is. We are settling in though, and Jim is looking for a new job - didn't get the one he was promised when he retired early. Not missing the snow, and just had Ryan and fam out for Christmas so that made it a welcome piece of home for sure.

Happy New Year - (sorry to hi-jack, Glennbo :flower3:)
