City, Sand, and Savanna - Link to new trip report

Great start south!!!

We usually do the overnight bag on our trips, too, and something is always forgotten. Unfortunately, I'm the only one doing the packing so I have to pull out the "Well, if you would have helped pack, then maybe you wouldn't be missing anything" line.

This last trip, I forgot clothes for my 3-year-old for the following morning. I didn't even notice until the morning...after she had slept in the clothes she had worn the day before. Oops. My big plan of not packing pj's for her since she'd fall asleep in the car before we got to the hotel anyway backfired big time. :lmao:

next time can you resize your pics on the first travel day so we can see them better...

oh wait that would mean you would have actually had to take pics for us to see in the first place...way to go glenn
:headache:

note to self to more pics than glenn when i take my next trip.
:thumbsup2

allthough i am digging your morning breakfast and your kids.
:yay:

Okay, I'm back as promised. Great "Second Intermission" installment. Although not a huge Bruce fan, I do enjoy some of his music. What a great treat for Marlene to have such a memorable evening with her dad. :goodvibes

Sounds like a rather uneventful first part of the drive...minus the mishap stopping for breakfast. But, hey, you gotta do what you gotta do to have that coffee. :thumbsup2

A most excellent beginning GB.

I was a bit lagging in updates, so I must also say you did a fine job on the lights at the park.

Nifty stuff that.

And Lauren did well wrapping up NYC. Glad to hear she and Judy had a good time. Even if they nearly got stranded overnight in a New Jersey parking garage. (But then again, who hasn't?)

I found your TR! I always read them but almost never post.

I was curious about the local park that you went to - what's its name?

0 Judy

***I'm off to bed (exhausted), but will read the full update tomorrow. :)

Hmmm, there were two separate posts. We'll give you a point, and you can decide which post it goes with. ;)

Darn it 0Judys.

Same answer as Kathy, and not as quick.

Longwood Gardens: 0 Judys

Springsteen Concert: 0 Judys

There ya go. Correct! :cheer2: That's good for 2 wins! (And you didn't even need Marv's help. ;))

Updated scores:
Jenn (elphie101) - 1 Judy-sighting win, First Subscriber Honors!
Tanya - 1 Judy-sighting win
Pat - 3 Judy-sighting wins
Rosie - 1 Judy-sighting win
Marvin - 4 Judy-sighting wins, 1 Eagle Eye point :magnify:
Kelly - 1 Judy-sighting win
Mark - 1 Judy-sighting win
Molly - 1 Judy-sighting win
Dan - 1 Eagle Eye point :magnify:
Kathy - 1 Judy-sighting win
Dee - 2 Judy-sighting wins

***I'm off to bed (exhausted), but will read the full update tomorrow. :)

Not a problem. I shoulda been in the sack instead of posting too.

Ok, now that you are at the Disney part I am subscribing:)

:welcome: dwelty! Thanks for joining in.

love reading about peoples trips to NYC.

Funny about the guy from the show was there on the train.

I knew my NYC readers would enjoy it, that's why I tried really hard not to change a word of what she wrote....I wanted her perspective to come through. :)

The light show you went to was gorgeous.

I think anybody who has a camera would go crazy for it. And in the summer when it's nice out at night, you can't beat walking around and looking at them.

Bruce!!! Love his shows. Seen him 3 times and always was a great time.

It was great! My resume is now complete -- I've seen him, the Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney (3 times), the Vienna Boys Choir, and Yeehaa Bob (3 times). :rotfl2:

I never had hardees before and will never have Chick-Fil-A and your on your way. :cool1:

Hardees' sausage biscuits are terrible health-wise, but such a great once-in-a-decade treat. I understand your feelings on Chick-Fil-A.

A great update! Some very funny moments :D

Thanks Squidgy.

Too funny about passing the drive-thru window! I have come close several times, but have managed to back up without hitting the car behind me. :rotfl:

Backing up! Now why didn't I think of that?! :worship:

Doesn't this count as evidence of you being a scofflaw, against the explicit "No Photos" on the ticket?;)

Now you know my secret -- I can't read. Is that what it says?

BRUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCE!!!!!!!!!! That concert sounds awesome! I know a bunch of people who were also there, actually!!

It was so good!

Yay for getting a good start on your travel day! It's alright, the Hardee's secret was kept from me too!! :rotfl:

Okay, good...so I wasn't the only one. ;)

Sounds like you drive was interesting but luckily not eventful. :rolleyes2:

Yes, we had about 10 combined minutes of "interesting" over 12-hour day.
omgblinky.gif

Chalk up the Hardees thing to no coffee.

You're absolutely right. Thank you!

You need to start spending more time with your lovely wife!!!

Hey, I invited her along to both the Longwood Gardens photo excursion and the Bruce concert and she didn't want to go to either. Do you think I should be concerned?

Thanks for the pictures from the concert. Bruce puts on a great show- I saw him in 1986. Really works hard during the show. I miss the Big Man :sad1:

Clarence's nephew is now Bruce's saxophone player and does a great job. He gets much love from the audience whenever he has a solo. Clarence is still "present" in the show at a couple of points -- during the "roll call" Bruce sings "are you missin' anybody?", and of course the crowd cheers; then there was a tribute towards the end of the show with pictures of him on the big screens.

Glad there were no major issues during the drive. The drive-thru story is hilarious though!!!

It could have been worse, my car alarm could have been going off...but you'll have to look at an earlier trip report for that story. :rolleyes1 link to "an alarming thing..."

Bummer about Marlene's forgotten clothes. Was she able to piece together and outfit from everyone else's bag, did you have to venture into the luggage or did she just wear the same outfit the next day? Or, did she pick up some fashionable items at the Comfort Suites gift shop?

No, I'm a pushover...I ventured into the luggage. :headache:

Never fails someone always forgets something.

Oh, I know it.

Glad you got to be the cool Dad and catch a concert and it didn't rain on you.

I've always thought I was the cool Dad :cool2:, but I usually can't get anyone else to vote that way.

Good turn around to get back on the road a day after returning from NYC. We don't have Hardee's here in Louisiana so we usually stop in Alabama on our way to Disney.

You usually hit a Hardee's on your way to Disney? Nice!

Nah, I can blow that off.

Um, I mean, thanks for the reminder. :rolleyes1 :rotfl:

confused0086.gif

Hey, that's what my yard looked like, too. Without the cars and pavement, I mean.

If you want cars and pavement there, you should talk to the highway department. ::yes::

I seem to recall seeing that stadium before...

That's where the Phillies....hmmm, I'm looking for the right word....

Awww--er, I mean, great! Glad to have you back!

Aw, thanks! I feel the love.

Arranging ketchup and mustard packets like dominoes?:confused3

Yeah, so that I could put them under the tires of the van later. It'll make for great fun as we pull out for vacation -- what a sendoff!

Brilliant!

Brilliant idea.

And yet MEK and I had no idea you were in Middletown. Who's the one keeping secrets here, hmm?

I figured that both of you were already hard at work, but your little green DIS-lights were probably on, so who knows!

If I recall correctly, you could also have gone to the Friendly's next door before it sadly disappeared.

It burned down, correct? :firefight

Good work, kids. :thumbsup2

Mmmmm. Who cares that it's not even anywhere near lunchtime yet?

Oh, come on. That's like deciding you don't need oxygen.

Exactly. Hey, I need oxygen!!

Not much to say here except :lmao::rotfl2::rotfl:

Considering your GPS already advised you to try to beat the toll, how can we be sure it wasn't directing you to skip out on the drive-thru?

Good point, I blame it on the GPS. :darth:

Ah, I knew there had to be at least one out there.

It would have been awesome if you'd had this debate while driving 88 mph.

Unfortunately, our flux capacitor was on the fritz.

I knew it! You DID skip out on the drive-thru!

You weren't driving a white Ford Bronco, were you?

No, I wasn't driving. We had a driver....his nametag said "Al C".

Does the hotel have a bathrobe? :rolleyes1

No, but some really nice draperies.

:lmao: Hey, I guess it was meant to be. I'm glad you were able to have some father/daughter time and go to the concert! :thumbsup2

Yeah, my excuses were pretty much gone, but I'm glad they were.

You beat me to it! I noticed the same thing. :lmao::rotfl2: Nothing quite like posting the evidence on the internet for everyone to see... :rolleyes1

You're not going to tell anyone are you?

Excellent job, Lauren! Thanks for taking us all to NYC!

Thanks. I'm glad she wrote it up. I think she did great.

If only real life worked the way "good ideas on paper" do.

Really.

Do you really still have to think about the route at this point?:confused3

You've gotta understand, I don't travel to the Middletown area very often. It's not someplace you wanna get lost in, if you know what I mean. :rolleyes1

Since you liked that one so much, I'll give you another. The other day I was at the bank depositing some money for our church. I had a bunch of coins and we were out of wrappers, so I asked the teller for some more. She asked me, "any particular denomination?" I said, "Presbyterian". :rotfl2:

:headache:
I actually did the same thing at Wendy's last week at lunch. Makes you feel kind of stupid. :headache:

I'm glad you said that you did it too! We can be stupid together.

You really do have some thought provoking conversation on the road. :rotfl:

f-alberte.gif

I wish I'd found that smiley to include in the chapter. Maybe I'll go back and edit it and put it in. I like it!

Hmmm... that looks like something I'm going to have to try now.

Just be sure to try it when somebody else is driving!

I guess somebody's going to be wearing the same clothes 2 days in a row then. :rolleyes1 :lmao::rotfl2:

No. Dear old dad climbed up into the cartop carrier.

Great updates. Read them this morning. So glad you loved the Bruuuuce concert. It looks like you had a blast.

We had a great time! I'm so glad the rain let up.

Thanks for posting the "illegal" pictures. I looked at them this morning. I mean, come on, how can a DISer not take pictures??????

Exactly, we've gotta capture the moment. And they're just grainy iPhone pictures anyway.

That rain on Monday was terrible. Its been so wet my cat came inside the other day with a slug on his @$$. Gross!

a26.gif

So I said, "how did that get on there?"

And the slug spoke up and said, "I dunno. I started out as a wart on my butt and just kept growing!" :confused3

Yup - good old Hardy's in Middletown. Bet you didn't know we have a chik-fi-la now. Remember that the next time you are passing through.

I did not know that. So hard to keep up with the Middletown news!

Can't wait for more!

:)

My mental picture of you whipping the mini van around Hardee's to get to the window is quite funny.:rotfl2:

Darned people behind me were quick-orderers.

Growing up I loved Hardee's breakfast biscuits..:goodvibes They were hot with raisins and icing.

Mmmm. I've only ever had the sausage ones.

I knew when yo said that everyone was to pack an overnight bag that something would go wrong. We've been there and done that. And getting everything to fit in our car carrier is a pain in the patooty. pirate:

Heck, I knew it when we were doing it. But what do I know?

Taking Marlene to see Springsteen is a great memory she'll always have of spending time with you. The fact that as a teenager she wanted to spend time with you...in public...is a testament to what a good father you are.

Aw, thanks.

BRUUUUCE!

One of my favorite concerts, EVER!

What a performer.

Agreed...what an awesome show. I'm ready to see him again!

Cream Cheese, Crisco, Hardees, Chick-Fil-A and Wendy's.

My arteries hardened reading this

:lmao:

Fortunately, we don't make it a habit! A road-trip is a hard time to eat healthy.

You knew SOMEONE would forget stuff in the carrier...happens every time!

Oh I know, but what're you gonna do?

And I bet you are nicer than us, and got them out. As opposed to making them wear the same thing until we reached our destination.

Yes, I'm a pushover.

Time travel...gotta love car conversations! :thumbsup2

It can get crazy.

My sentiments exactly!

Great start south!!!

We're on our way!

We usually do the overnight bag on our trips, too, and something is always forgotten. Unfortunately, I'm the only one doing the packing so I have to pull out the "Well, if you would have helped pack, then maybe you wouldn't be missing anything" line.

Hopefully it won't be too much longer until you can start pushing that responsibility to the young'ns a little bit.

:lmao:

note to self to more pics than glenn when i take my next trip.

That shouldn't be too hard!

I gradually take more as we go through the vacation!

Time to get our recommended daily allowance of sodium and pork fat!

Okay, I'm back as promised. Great "Second Intermission" installment. Although not a huge Bruce fan, I do enjoy some of his music. What a great treat for Marlene to have such a memorable evening with her dad. :goodvibes

Well, I'm much more of a fan now than I was a few days ago! Seeing him in concert goes a long way in that regard.

Sounds like a rather uneventful first part of the drive...minus the mishap stopping for breakfast. But, hey, you gotta do what you gotta do to have that coffee. :thumbsup2

You are so right! :coffee:

A most excellent beginning GB.

Thanks. Hey, being named GreatBiscuit, have you ever had a Hardee's sausage breakfast biscuit?

I was a bit lagging in updates, so I must also say you did a fine job on the lights at the park.

Nifty stuff that.

Thank you sir.

And Lauren did well wrapping up NYC. Glad to hear she and Judy had a good time. Even if they nearly got stranded overnight in a New Jersey parking garage. (But then again, who hasn't?)

I know, it's like a rite of passage!

I found your TR! I always read them but almost never post.

Hi orangecats2! :welcome: Yes, you posted on the PTR I believe. Well, I'm definitely glad you're here!

I was curious about the local park that you went to - what's its name?

Longwood Gardens. If you live within reasonable driving distance, or are visiting the area, I recommend it.

I'm so excited to be on the tote board!

:woohoo:

I'm glad you're on there too! Congrats!

In the link 2 judys !!!!!

Say what? Oh, you're talking about previous chapters that get linked? No, those points have already been spoken for!

For the girls an overnight bag is a full sized suitcase:rotfl2:

I believe it. I think that's part of the definition of "girl".

Dude !!! That smiley is EPIC !!!

Thanks, I'm glad you like it! I ran across it quite a while ago and socked it away for just such an occasion.

I have indeed enjoyed the Hardee's biscuit and it was great. There are sadly none in my neck of the woods. Which makes me sad indeed.

You've gotta understand, I don't travel to the Middletown area very often. It's not someplace you wanna get lost in, if you know what I mean. :rolleyes1
I know what you mean. I hear they even burn family restaurants down in that town. :rolleyes1

Since you liked that one so much, I'll give you another. The other day I was at the bank depositing some money for our church. I had a bunch of coins and we were out of wrappers, so I asked the teller for some more. She asked me, "any particular denomination?" I said, "Presbyterian". :rotfl2:
Ok, that one was funny! :rotfl2:

Time to get our recommended daily allowance of sodium and pork fat!
reminds me of when we are in the mood for breakfast for dinner...which usually consists of.

eggs or omlets....and a sides of

fresh sausage patties.

bacon
canadian bacon.

hasbrowns

and dont judge but possible hickory smoked sausage inside my omlette.
:rotfl:

3 pork products just is an odd number so have to even it out with 4:thumbsup2

Trying to get caught up on TRs tonight. :thumbsup2

Loved hearing about the Springsteen concert, although I was a bit jealous.

And I'm enjoying the road trip. Loved the drive-through without stopping. :lmao: And I'm sorry, but no way could you get that many people to get it right with the overnight bag  - ugh, I hope there is a solution sort of digging through the car carrier. :headache:
