Cirque du Soleil - should we spend the $$$!

I posted on the dining board regarding the Hoop Dee Doo show and someone mentioned the above show which I had not heard of. Is this worth the $$$??? My girls are 12 and 15. I am concerned because once you get the tickets they are no cancellations.... could we wait until we got there to decide? Since we're all considered adults it would be expensive - but so is the Hoop Dee Doo (but it can be cancelled 48 hours prior)

Thanks for any info!

If you have enough time before you go, you may be able to check out a Cirque du Soleil performance on tv. We occasionally see a show on Brave or some station like that. It probably won't be exactly the same show you'd see at DD, but it might give you an idea of whether you like that kind of thing. As another option, you might see if there is a video you could rent to give you some ideas.

We really enjoyed the enjoy, and it was worth it for us. But then again, we had seen similar shows on tv, and we know what to expect. We enjoyed Hoop Dee Doo as well, but these two shows are sort of at opposite ends of the entertainment spectrum, so it's hard to compare them. It will really depend on your personal tastes.

We really enjoy it. I was so hesitant to spend the money the first time. Then on our next trip, we took our two oldest with us. We enjoyed it even more, if that was possible. When our youngest is old enough to remember it, not just be able to sit through it, we're planning to go again.

I second watching one of their shows on Bravo or renting a DVD.

We saw 'La Nouba' for the first time in '99, and became hooked. We now attend any of the Cirque road shows that come close to our area, and revisited La Nouba on 1/2/03. It was hard to believe, but some of the acts had been tweaked to an even higher level of difficulty. Once again, I was in awe.

As Ocean said, the various productions are often broadcast on the Bravo cable network. Cirque also has its own website, which is worth a visit.
A diagram of the WDW facility can be found here-

We try to get seats in the lower rows of sections 203,4, or 5 to avoid a sore neck. Some of the action takes place in the aisle seperating the upper and lower sections, and overhead in the lower sections.

IMO, it's well worth the money.

Hoop Dee Doo and Cirque du Soleil are nothing alike. Both are good. But Hoop Dee Doo is not a pure performance like Cirque. It's more of an audience participation thing that gives it its flavor.
We saw Cirque this past year. [Annual Passholders get a pretty good discount!] It was one of only a few things I've attended *anywhere* that I wouldn't hesitate to recommended to anyone ... with the possible exception of very young children [pre-kindergarten], who might not be wanting to focus at the time. Your 12 and 15 year old girls will love it.
It's one of only two "events" that (1) I paid a lot for tickets and (2) I felt like I had already got my money's worth after the first 20 minutes!
It's mesmerizing!
[FYI, the other event was non-Disney. It was front row seats for "Little Me" on Broadway, starring Martin Short. Hilarious!]

OMG....we were to La Nouba this past June with DSs then 12 and 13. DH always wanted to go, I always thought it was an awful lot of $$, and DSs weren't really interested and actually said they just didn't want to go.

Well......DH said lets just do it and we bought the tickets.

I think it took about 15 seconds into the show and our mouths dropped to the floor. DSs never moved an inch and wanted to go back the next night!!!! It was great!! We bought the music sound track and it is just about worn out. We just got the DVD this Christmas and we get chills each time we watch it.

We all, especially DSs, want to go back again. I say go.....especially with the ages of your children!!!

The worst part about La Nouba, other than it has to end ;) is that it is basically impossible to explian it to someone. I can't quite figure out the words to describe it!!!! :D :D :D

Enjoy!!!

La Nouba is something that everyone should see at least once. It is amazing! There is nothing like it.

Hoop Dee Doo is fun, but you can live without it. The food leaves a lot to be desired.

Even though Cirque costs a bit more, it is definitely worth it, and not to be missed. I'd cut out a dinner to save the extra money and make it more affordable. It's very entertaining.

We loved Cirque. I absolutely recommended going. And by the way, for anyone reading this with young children, we took our DS (3 at the time) and he loved it. That was 2 years ago and he can still tell you about it. There were plenty of young kids there, and they were as mesmerized as the adults. We were hesitant about taking him, and decided that if he wasn't sitting still my mother would leave with him (she wasn't sure she would like it). Thankfully all went well, as everyone was thrilled with the show.

Go, enjoy. It is an experience unlike anything else.

That's it in a nutshell! Un-describable! Most definitely worth every penny, IMO. We just absolutely LOVED it!
