Okay, I don't remember anyone asking this before, but if it was raised when I wasn't lurking here, forgive me for repeating this. :scratchin

We went to see the Mouse for two glorious weeks - November 30th to December 14th  It was the trip of a lifetime! It has always been my dream, and my husband is now a definite convert. He is already planning our next trip. I definitely got depressed when we returned - the post-trip downers  - and because of that I have only recently been organizing all our pictures for our memory scrapbook.

This is taking me a long time to ask my question. I really appreciated how they decorated Cinderella's Castle for the 50th. It is truly beautiful. Tonight I've been admiring all the pictures we took of it, and then went online to look at some more. Then I saw many of the "regular" castle, and you know, it looked kind of naked without all its beautiful decorations on it.

In fact, I thought about it, and I sort of got sad that they are likely going to remove them once the celebration is done (at least I haven't heard any different). Will anyone else out there miss them? Does anyone else out there know if there is a movement to "keep the decorations forever"?

Thanks for sharing.

I agree with YOU, but there are many "purists" who think the opposite way.

Heck, I even liked the CAKE CASTLE (but only DURING that celebration.)

OH Robo.............. NO!!!!!!! NO NO NO Not the Cake........... YIKES :scared1:

We are going in 2 weeks and I hope the castle is still decorated, as I'd love to see it and get photo's of it!!! But, I think it's beautiful un-decorated as well.......... but, that cake......... :scared: ewww

I have to say I generally fall into the "purist" category. You know our kind, the one's that would be picketing WDW if they ever closed Carousel of Progress!!!! I've seen the castle without decorations and when it was blown up into a big birthday cake. But I have to tell you, I LOVE LOVE LOVE the 50th decorations. I love the characters on the castle. It's magical! I could do without the big mirror but I love everything else. See, us "purist" can open our minds a little bit!!!!

No problem THERE.

It will stay "decorated" (at least) until the end of the "50th Celebration" which runs for many more months yet.

The point about the CAKE was that it WAS just a "lark" for the anniversary.
Nothing was "destroyed".

I thought of it as a "Masquerade Party Costume" for the castle... it was still our old friend, just "made up" for the occasion.

But if we disagree, so be it.
Its not a "cake" anymore.

Don't take my first post about "purists" as being a slam.
I'm a Disney "purist" too.
(COP forever!) In fact, put back Walt's ORIGINAL soundtrack with Rex Allen, Sr. as Papa!

My point was that that ARE folks (purists or just "critics") who don't like ANY kind of change... just BECAUSE!!

I don't even know what you are talking about! The castle is decorated for it's 50th?
I have to confess that like livingthedream I had post trip downers. I stayed on the boards for a while to help out other people (give back what I was given and I hope some more) then I couldn't take it any more. I couldn't read others' happy dances and trip plans knowing I wasn't ever going back. It was too hard.

Now I have an opportunity to go back in November. I am beside myself again. But the castle is my magical place (as it is for so many others). The purist in me wants to see it the same, but having been at WDW for Christmas and seeing special decorations, I know Disney can do things as only Disney can (is that redundant?).
Forgive my ramblings. Any pictures would be appreciated.

Sorry, wendypooh, but I have to agree with Robo. My DW and I enjoyed the cake as well. That was her first trip to WDW and she thought it was great. It really helped the trip standout as a memorable experience for her. Since then, we have been back 5 times and are planning a 6th trip this year. I say keep the Castle pure 95% of the time but let your hair down and enjoy it when it is decorated. It's fun!!!

Robo ---- I was just KIDDING!!!!!!!!!! I thought the cake looked horrible, but I'm not debating you about it........... I really was only kidding!!!! Sorry if you took it the wrong way!!! :confused3

I just thought that since YOU stated -----
Heck, I even liked the CAKE CASTLE (but only DURING that celebration.)
that you'd have realized I was just kidding!!!!

Also, I never said it "destroyed" anything.........???? :confused3 :confused3

We 100% agree...every time we come accross the cake pictures we just cringe. Just think, there are some people who's only trip in their lifetime was the year of the cake.

I wouls just hate to have that as my only memory of the cindy castle.

Serously how long will it be decorated. We go next Thanksgiving.

At least as long as the (18 month-long) "50th Celebration" is going on.

It MIGHT be left "decorated" for a good while after that, depending on the response of guests and the mood of the powers that be.

Our anniversary trip to WDW was spoiled by that stupid cake! They had half of the castle still regular/no decorations, while the other half was the pink cake/frosting stuff. Talk about some UUUUUUUUUGLY pictures!

Hey guys,

I didn't actually experience the "cake" in real life, just saw pictures, and I know there are definitely strong opinions about it, but I didn't post to talk about the "cake"!

The latest dressing of the castle has a COMPLETELY different feel. It is much more subtle and delicate than the cake, and it gives it an extremely regal and magical feel. The way the light reflects off the gold, the little characters (Cinderella's mice, etc), plus the added height it gives makes me think that it is wearing a crown. I'm not sure that is what the imagineers were aiming for, but I wouldn't be surprised if that was their goal. ::yes::

I understand the argument about wanting things to stay the same, but IMHO the way the Castle is currently dressed improves it and makes it truly magical. They have updated or changed some of the attractions for the better, and taken away from others, but I truly believe this new appearance only adds to the image the castle is trying to portray, and when they remove the decorations it will be a truly sad moment for me.

Go take a look at the regular pictures beside the current dressing of the castle and see if you can understand my point.

OK, I fall into the "purist" category too! My first trip to WDW was in 1973, when I was 6 years old princess: . The sight of that castle was truly magical to me! Now fast forward to 1997 - I have not been to WDW since that first time. We decide to take DS (then 4) to WDW. I am so excited about seeing that castle again! We walk into the MK and the castle is PINK! :scared1: I was devastated! Now I understand that the current decorations are not as hideous as the cake castle, but I wish it wasn't decorated. I love the castle as is!

I like the castle the way it is now. I think it so pretty the way all the gold sparkles in the sun. I'd be happy if they just left it this way.

Me too. I think it will look kinda naked when they take everything off.
