We are going to Disney in early September with our DS 9 and DD 6. We want to do a princess dining for our daughter. I've read different things about the Cinderella Royal table and that there are not many princesses there. Questions:
  • Cinderella Royal Table - which meal is best? I can't find dinner reservations, but can find breakfast or lunch
  • Is Akershus a better option? I've heard you get up to 4 princesses there.
Thanks!:)

We have yet to eat at Cinderellas, but we've done Akershus twice and really enjoyed it both times (preferred breakfast to lunch meal-wise).
If you're using dining plan it's nice because it's only one credit instead of CRTs two credits.

At Akershus last fall we had Belle, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Snow White and Ariel.

Akershus has better character interaction.

Food is ABOUT the same.

Atmosphere of the castle is FAR more exciting/worth the money, IMO. It all comes down to if you're interested in dining in the castle.

This. Plus if your on the dining plan, CRT is 2 credits as opposed to Akershus' 1 credit.

We have eaten lunch at CRT twice and both times had a great experience.

We ate at Akershus for lunch and it was NASTY. Like one of our worst Disney meals ever.

That being said, we ended up with a breakfast ADR at Akershus last month, and breakfast was really good!

If you are doing breakfast, I would recommend Akershus, due to pricing only. CRT is an EXPENSIVE breakfast.

For any other meal, I'd vote CRT. :)

I'd do akershus - easier to get the reservation, the price is better, and you get more quality time with the characters. CRT is very overpriced.

We've done both twice so far and enjoyed them both. One thing about Akershus, as with any of the character buffet meals, is that there is the potential to miss a character while you are off getting food. All things said and done, I think my family prefers CRT, just because you can't beat the magic of dining in the castle but, truly, you can't go wrong either way.

Is it crazy to do both? My daughters would love dining in the castle so CRT is a must, but Akershus sounds great too! CRT we're planning to pay out of pocket as it's 2 credits, but were planning to use a TS credit for Akershus.

Akershus is great. Never done the Royal Table but I've always been on the meal plan. It makes no sense to use 2 credits. In September this year - I'm going to be out of pocket for dining and it lines up with my daughter's birthday so we are doing Royal Table.

With that said - I would do Akershus if you are on the fence and can't really decide between the two.

Princesses are at CRT for Breakfast, and the Breakfast there is delicious in my opinion. We've done Akershus for Dinner, and the Character interaction was just as good as CRT. Also the Dinner was absolutely delicious. It actually surprised us. I think it just depends on what you're looking for, and what kind of cuisine you like better. If I had to give one the one up, it'd of course be the castle, cause well, IT'S CINDERELLA CASTLE! haha Everyone should eat there at least one time I think. Good luck, and happy dining! :)

I'd go with Akershus. We hit it on our second trip and we never missed it after that. With two daughters, it's the perfect place for meeting princesses. PLUS, I really love the food at lunch. While I'm sure it's not really authentic, I like Disney's version of Norwegian food. The kjotkake is really good, as is the cold and hot tables. Love this place.

It depends on how much your daughters enjoy the princesses because there is a lot of overlap between the two places in terms of the princesses who visit. We usually opt to do one princess meal and one non-princess character meal which has worked out well for our family. If your girls really love the princesses and would enjoy seeing some of them twice, there is nothing wrong with doing both.

We have done both of them and they are both great. We did Akershus for breakfast and CRT for dinner. At both places the food was amazing. CRT is expensive. We paid $220 for 2 adults and 2 kids but I think it was well worth it. We would definitely do it again. We are doing Akershus again this year but plan to do CRT next year. The atmosphere at the Royal table is amazing. There is nothing better than eating in the castle. At Akershus the picture was with Belle. Then we had Ariel, Snow White, Cinderella and Aurora come to the table. At CRT the picture was with Cinderella and then we had Ariel, Snow White, Aurora, and Jasmine come to the table.

Thanks for the input! It's their first trip to Disney and my husband's and my second (we went on our honeymoon). Character meals sound like a great way to entertain the kids during TS meals in theory, but I think I may be going overboard!

Breakfast in the castle is the ultimate. I would try for that (before park opening). It is very special. I took my daughter several times when she was little, and again last summer. We had a great experience.
2d choice would be b'fast at Akershus (again, before park opening). We had an excellent experience there last time (2011).

I think the character meals is a great way for you to get a good meal and your kids to meet the character without having to stand in lines. We did 7 character meals last year and my kids got to meet almost everyone they wanted without having to stand in line. Then we had more time in the parks for rides:stitch:

We were going to do CRT on our next trip...until I really thought about what a rip off it is (I really don't mean to offend anyone who loves it there, but just my 2 cents.) Akershus is beautiful inside, the princesses were lovely and I thought the menu was varied and interesting. After reading the reviews of the food at CRT, I decided I just couldn't buy into the scam. $40-$50 to eat bad breakfast food at the castle? I'm just not sure I could ever justify that. Your kids don't even know that they "need to eat at the castle" Sorry to sound harsh and cynical, I am full of love for all things Disney....but no.

Honestly I believe that akershus is the best breakfast we have done so far. Character wise they are about the same. We are doing it again this year!

Perfect! That's exactly what I'm going for - good to know it worked for your family! Thanks!! :cool1:

I just cancelled our CRT reservation yesterday! I agree with this poster. I'm sure it would have been stunning and beautiful, and we had a reservation after my daughters BBB appointment so it would have magical for sure. However, we ate at akershus last time and have a reservation this trip as well. We thought akershus was wonderful! And it's muchore cost effective. While CRT would have been in the budget (does budget exist with Disney?!), I feel much more comfortable NOT spending as much on a lunch.
