After reading various trip reports and pre-trip reports, I'm ready to jump in and try it. I'm not a writer, so bear with me, please.
I purchased an Annual Pass and activated it September 4, 2006. At the time, I only planned to use it for 2 trips, September 4-10, 2006, and January 4-10, 2007. The September trip was myself and a friend (who hadn't been since the mid 70's). It was great. The weather was wonderful and we got free dining. The January trip was a family trip. The cast was: myself, my parents (ages 71 & 73), my sister & brother-in-law (age 40) and my nephew (age 12). My family is not as "into" Disney as I am and I think they just go along with my obsession because I'm family! Anyway, we had a great time. We stayed at Pop Century and we purchased the dining plan. My family left for home (Indianapolis) on Monday, January 8 and I stayed until the 10th. This was the first time I had been solo at WDW and I just did 2 days to see how it went. I LOVED it. I took the Keys to the Kingdom tour on Wednesday morning. This is a great tour at the Magic Kingdom and I would recommend it highly. I also was able to do whatever I wanted to do.
Almost as soon as I got home, I began planning another trip. I booked Pop Century for August, hoping for free dining. I began thinking about what I wanted to do while I was there. In the midst of this planning, passholder rates came out for May. This trip's cast is just me. I called and booked a room for May 4-6 with the passholder rates at All Star Sports. Now all that remained was airfare and food. I used my American Express points and got my round-trip ticket. So, this trip is going to be pretty cheap considering I'm going to Disney.
So, now it's about 1 month away. I've only made one ADR at the Grand Floridian for tea. I'm very excited about going solo again. I really like being able to do what I want to do when I want to do it.
The August trip (8/15-8/19) is still on and a friend and her son, who has Down's syndrome and will be 10 when we go, are going with me. We're staying at Pop Century in August and we've planned to eat at Chef Mickey's for dinner as well as at the Biergarten and 50's PrimeTime Cafe. I used more American Express points for this trip and if they'd release passholder rates for August, I'd be so excited. I'm going anyway, but saving money is always good.
Now, all I have to do is wait. At least I can get my "fix" here on the DISboards. I'll try to do a trip report when I return in May!
