My uncle was part of D-Day. He was barely old enough to join the military (I believe my grandparents had to sign for him to go). He told us that the launches that went in first were under heavy fire and he couldn’t see any survivors on the beach. His was one of the first launches to actually land live personnel on the beach. He said he had never been so scared in his life as he was that day, and that is saying something since he also served during the Korean conflict and in Vietnam. He was a medic.
