Church Street

Does anyone remember an attraction that was at Church Street Station (or near it) - Can't remember if it was called Nightmare on Church Street or the Church Street Haunted House. It was a Haunted Mansion with a difference- the people inside were real. I remember goinng as a kid and my parents thought it was a nice scary ride but i came out shaking as did my mum. There were people grabbing my feet through holes in the wall and a man with a chain saw. Has Church Street gone for good? Has anything replaced it?

The Terror on Church Street attraction (which was actually at the junction of Church Street and Orange Avenue in downtown Orlando) opened in 1991 and was a highlight of the downtown scene for 8 years. Sadly, it closed in 1999 as the Church Street area began to suffer in tourist terms with people choosing to stay at Disney's Downtown area or Universal's CityWalk. They briefly tried to revive it by bringing it inside Church Street Station itself but, with the Station suffering a similar damaging drop in attendance, it lasted barely 6 months there. Church Street Station itself managed to stay open for another 2 years before closing in summer 2001. There are supposed to be some major refurbishments and new developments taking place at the Station, with new owners, but these are still some way off from being approved, let alone completed.

Howdy James,

If a walkthrough haunted house attraction still appeals, try Skull Kingdom! Complete with scary cast members (at least during the 'spookier' evening performance!), this is pretty close to the parks, and reportedly a lotta fun.

Have a look at the website (try not to get too freaked out by the sound effects!) Skull Kingdom , hope this helps...

I remember Terror on Church Street and it frightened the life out of me. The actors were brilliant and the whole set up was really good. I spent most of the time clinging onto a complete stranger in front of me whilst trying to sing 'I'm H.A.P.P.Y., I'm H.A.P.P.Y' etc etc to take my mind of the maniac with the chainsaw chasing me! Glad I did it but I'd never do it again, well..... maybe if you paid me, or I was extremely drunk!
