Now if you are pleasantly surprised for New Year's Eve, I will be close to shocked, LOL.
Well, good call on THAT one...
Yes indeed, the current 7 month booking window is much more restricted than it was for Christmas week even. With one caveat being that I only just checked availability, whereas I did check earlier in the morning last week. Normally I don't even try to check anywhere near the opening, because I want to get an idea of what you can expect without having to be neurotically checking and clicking at the stroke of 8 am or whenever it opens. But frankly, if you are trying to book for Christmas or New Year's week at the 7 month mark, you ought not expect to be able to be casual about it. I doubt there was a big difference in 3 hours, but maybe.
With that said, given my greatly reduced expectations there are certainly still some bright spots. Even at the 7 month window, there are Studio, 1 BR and 2 BR rooms available at WDW resorts for a complete week, though your resort choice is greatly limited (you can guess, I won't provide any details). I did not see any 3 BR units fully available, so if you are planning to use
DVC points for a big family gathering on New Year's Eve, make sure to buy points at the resort you want to do that, and book early in your 11 month window. But I'm not exactly breaking news there, am I? Even so, there is one 3 BR at a resort (not telling, but this one is not quite as easy to guess) that has only 1 night sold out for the week. So you might have a shot at that one, or if your week didn't run exactly Friday to Friday, as my sample week does.
