I've gotten back in the habit of my weekly check on availability at the 7 month window for every resort and room type for a full week. Today's booking window runs from December 20-27, a relatively prime spot. I won't post anything remotely specific, as to not run afoul of the posting guidelines here. I will only say that I was pleasantly surprised.

Yes, I believe it is harder to book the first week of December than it is to book Christmas week.

Now if you are pleasantly surprised for New Year's Eve, I will be close to shocked, LOL.

We switched MIL and FIL from a 1BR at OKW over to a 1BR at AKV-Kadani (standard view). We are also booked over there as are my 2 SILs...now all 4 villas will be in the same resort (YAY!!!). Dates are 12/20-25....and we released a 1BR hospitality house section at OKW (so someone's wait list for that may have come through today). Edit: Just checked and the 1BR near HH is still available, so nobody must have had it WL.

Well, good call on THAT one... :thumbsup2

Yes indeed, the current 7 month booking window is much more restricted than it was for Christmas week even. With one caveat being that I only just checked availability, whereas I did check earlier in the morning last week. Normally I don't even try to check anywhere near the opening, because I want to get an idea of what you can expect without having to be neurotically checking and clicking at the stroke of 8 am or whenever it opens. But frankly, if you are trying to book for Christmas or New Year's week at the 7 month mark, you ought not expect to be able to be casual about it. I doubt there was a big difference in 3 hours, but maybe.

With that said, given my greatly reduced expectations there are certainly still some bright spots. Even at the 7 month window, there are Studio, 1 BR and 2 BR rooms available at WDW resorts for a complete week, though your resort choice is greatly limited (you can guess, I won't provide any details). I did not see any 3 BR units fully available, so if you are planning to use DVC points for a big family gathering on New Year's Eve, make sure to buy points at the resort you want to do that, and book early in your 11 month window. But I'm not exactly breaking news there, am I? Even so, there is one 3 BR at a resort (not telling, but this one is not quite as easy to guess) that has only 1 night sold out for the week. So you might have a shot at that one, or if your week didn't run exactly Friday to Friday, as my sample week does.

We are going on the Dream for New Year's and staying at WDW two nights before. I was pleasantly surprised this morning be able to book a one bedroom for two nights at BLT. Yay!
