7º Christmas Eve morning. 11º Christmas morning. Way too cold for Georgia lol. Good thing we head to Orlando on Tuesday!
It’s supposed to be 80 degrees by Friday, so quite the turnaround for New Year’s weekend. Right now I am waiting for the temp to get above freezing so I can turn off the dripping faucet.7º Christmas Eve morning. 11º Christmas morning. Way too cold for Georgia lol. In Athens north of Atlanta. We have those darn high ceilings open floor plan so we have had to run the kerosene heater for a few hours at night and in the morning the past two days, electric space heater in the bedroom the last two nights. Hubby forgot to drip water in our scuba cleaning area, which is in the basement but the unfinished, unheated part, big tiled shower type tub that is against the outside wall. Last night he remembered so went to turn it on and the turn on knob was frozen. Today we are gearing up for when the Temps get above freezing in case the pipe bursts. No way he can cap it today since all stores are closed so we are prepping case we have to turn the water off til tomorrow. I did mention on Friday night when he went down there to turn water on he said not needed. He forgot we had the scuba area. Oh well, we have insurance so it is what it is.It’s supposed to be 80 degrees by Friday, so quite the turnaround for New Year’s weekend. I hope your pipes are okay. I have an open plan, but the ceilings are only 10-12 feet in the great room, and normal everywhere else. Our house is reinforced block on both levels, poured solid, so it doesn’t get below 60 inside. But the kitchen pipes go up over the ceiling of the great room, so I always do a drip on the kitchen faucet when it goes below freezing. We just hit 32, so I can finally turn it off.In Athens north of Atlanta. We are just on the other side of the bridge in Canada. We’re in a State of Emergency. First responders and snow cleaning crews couldn’t get to the people stuck on highways and all around us. We are under a driving ban. The storm has passed this morning but was by far the worst storm I remember in my almost 50 years.Still in a blizzard in WNY. The city of Buffalo is ground zero. No emergency services in the city & most of the county. Fire trucks, ambulances etc are stuck in the snow trying to make rescues. Saying about 3/4 of the emergency vehicles are stuck. News is reporting a mother having to manually bag respirations into her year old baby for hours because the power has been out so the ventilator isn’t working. They are the top priority but no one can get to them. There have been 2 deaths from people who had medical emergencies at home but EMTs couldn’t reach them. This is a tragedy in the making. Storm to continue til sometime tomorrow.
It seems like the worst of it has moved east...sorry.We are just on the other side of the bridge in Canada. We’re in a State of Emergency. Miraculously my block kept power but everyone around us is out. Trees down everywhere, and all I hear this morning is sirens and chain saws. This storm was a beast. The walls of my house shook.
We are right down the road in Winder. We are not built for this weather lol.In Athens north of Atlanta. No we are not. Our pipe did freeze but we were able to get it thawed out and will be letting it drip tonight. It's actually warm enough tonight we can get by with just the gas logs and when we go to bed just the heat pump. We have learned heat pumps are not made for lower temps, we have the same problem with the heat pump in our RV. We are leaving Tuesday and won't be back until the next Tuesday so just to be safe we are turning the water totally off. That way if a pipe busts, it will only have the water that is left over in it and won't totally flood the house (although to be frank, I really want a new house, just saying). We are right down the road in Winder. Edit: Also our pool is frozen a good solid 2-3" but I left the pump running so it's still going strong under the layer of ice. Skimmer was a job to clean but we got it done.
Do you drain the pipes or just turn the water off?No we are not. Our pipe did freeze but we were able to get it thawed out and will be letting it drip tonight.
