For a mother-daughter Christmas trip, we are currently planning on staying at Boulder ridge in a 1-bedroom villa but are thinking about switching to a deluxe room club level for the trip! I’ve have never stayed at wilderness lodge before and am looking for advice for those who have insight into these rooms!

So much missing information! How old is your daughter, what are your goals for this trip, is it a resort only, ADRs? Give us some more info so we can help you better. No matter what, Christmas season at Wilderness Lodge is magical!

30 year old daughter! No specific goals for the trip, just enjoying Disney at Christmas. We have ADRs planned every night.

There are (10) Deluxe Rooms with Club level access. They are located on floors 1-5, 2 per floor at the very end of the wing near the boat dock area.

The Old Faithful Club is the CL lounge and it is located on the 7th floor. The CL lounge is located in the middle of the Main lodge section of the building so you will walk and/or take the stairs to reach the 7th floor.

These rooms have 2 Q beds in their own bedroom with at LCD TV, and there is a sitting area (Couch) and a table with (2) chairs for food seating. There is also a large LCD TV in this room.

These rooms are quite a bit more than just a regular CL room on the 7th floor. Do you really need the extra space vs the convenience of being just down the hallway from the CL lounge?

I vote against CL because you have ADRs planned every night. Also if just enjoying Christmas is your goal, I would be out seeing all things Christmas and that includes snacks and drinks at different locations. Hard to justify CL with the ADRs and the snacking options. So I’d stick with the BRV 1 bed, it’s a great room. BRV itself it so cozy, especially so at Christmas. Have a wonderful time whatever you choose!

Nope. We got “upgraded” from standard CL rooms to deluxe rooms last spring when our rooms became unavailable due to maintenance a few days out from our trip. Such a pain to enjoy the club, room was not nice enough to be worth the hassle. The boat is very convenient- but was rather useless to as we had an ECV user so buses were preferred. Now, I’ve stayed WL CL with Xmas decor on a different occasion and it was lovely, eating breakfast at the top the Xmas tree is pretty festive! But I’d do a standard room before a deluxe CL room even at Xmas.

And is someone planning on sleeping on the sofa bed? FYI those are not the drop down from the wall Murphy beds, they are old school sofa beds. I can’t say if they’re any good as we didn’t use them.

I have not stayed in a deluxe room CL at WL, but I have stayed in a standard room CL and also a 1-bedroom at BRV. I really loved both. For me, it would come down to price and I would probably choose the biggest bang for your buck. I stayed in a 1-bedroom at BRV with my sister and it was so nice to have two separate sleeping spaces (make sure to request a Murphy bed as, I believe, some of the rooms still have sofa beds) plus the washer/dryer and full kitchen. It was so serene and the refurbished rooms are gorgeous. If the CL deluxe is more expensive, I wouldn't do it unless you can take full advantage of the lounge food/beverage hours. We found we were out so much, that we typically were only around for breakfast and sometimes the evening offerings. The last time I stayed CL there, I had such a deep discount, so it was definitely worth it. If CL is pricing out better than the 1-bedroom, I would probably do it. Otherwise, I would save your money, book the 1-bedroom and spend your savings on your ADRs.

Contrarian view here, WL CL really is quite lovely with the 7th floor lounge overlooking the beautiful tree, the holiday music playing, etc. While subjective, WL CL tends to be among the higher rated CLs in terms of vibe, offerings, etc. I personally don’t think you need to ‘be around’ the resort to take advantage of lounge offerings any more or less than a normal stay to make a CL stay ‘worth it’ - but many do view it that way in their personal value calculus. That morning coffee and quick breakfast bite taking in the lounge with the lobby view is pretty darn good.

If you’ve never stayed at WL before, to me the main building also has a lot of appeal.

The ‘distance to the lounge’ from that room type topic has been covered and it’s not insignificant - you’re basically in the furthest room from everything other than heading to the MK boat. While not ‘that bad’, it still takes a few minutes so you lose some of the ‘convenience value’ that I appreciate in a CL stay.

Ultimately no wrong choice here and some pros/cons have been well noted, just personal preference of budget and experience. But I wouldn’t totally rule out a CL stay during the holidays.

We love CL over Christmas. We stayed WL CL this past Christmas and, if interested, you can find pictures of the offerings we had starting HERE. I recommend checking out YouTube as well, you will find plenty of videos showing a typical day in CL at The Lodge. Good luck deciding!
