ok, here are pictures of the village . this years theme is "Christmas in Ireland"

(& as I said before still would love to take great photos, I wish I could take nighttime pictures that really show the lights , in the house & the village, without being washed out)

You need a steady hand or portable tripod to get the best shot without a flash. And without a flash is best. As far as settings - if it's point and shoot or an SLR with auto - use high ISO or night portrait. I've also used bright flower, it's not supposed to work but does for me. A steady hand is best in low light.

muffyn, I missed the entire second page of this thread. Wow, is all I can say. Your staircase made me tear up. I would write why but I don't want to cry more. Thank you.

I need to show my hubby your comment,, as all I got from his was major grumbling with EACH container brought down 2 flights of stairs . his most uttered comment " no one needs this many decorations...... & we are NOT doing this next year." (of course the boxes go very slowly BACK upstairs over a couple weeks).

but then he does start commenting, gee the house looks nice. & I want to whack him.

I LOVE your village and lol about bringing all the boxes down. it is such a chore when we get all of our stuff down from the attic and dh says every year that it is crazy that we have so much. At this point most of it is not even put our anymore b/c we just don't have the space but I hang on to it b/c I want to one day have the space to put it all out...haha

I LOVE your village and lol about bringing all the boxes down. it is such a chore when we get all of our stuff down from the attic and dh says every year that it is crazy that we have so much. At this point most of it is not even put our anymore b/c we just don't have the space but I hang on to it b/c I want to one day have the space to put it all out...haha

How do you take such gorgeous photos?
mine just cannot capture the "mood" like yours do

Some I just hand held to do but the first couple I used the tripod and LONG exposures. Make sure to have the flash off, manual mode if available of your camera. If you are hand holding try to prop on something to keep it as steady as you can.

I love love love that stocking hanger AND your stockings. Care to share where you got both?

I bought the stocking hanger YEARS ago through ABC distributing. They do not carry it any more now it seems.

Boy do I know how that is. We have two cats and two dogs. One cat pays zero attention to the tree, and one is at it and in it constantly. He pulls all the ornaments off, even as we are decorating, climbs in it, which wouldn't be bad if it weren't for the fact that he is so heavy all the branch get smashed down leaving huge, gaping holes in the tree. We had to buy a new one last year because he ruined the one we had. The new one was a mess by the time we took it down. In total, I think it was only up four or five days, and I couldn't use half of the decorations we have because they would break. He climbs in the Christmas village houses and plays with everything.

As for dogs, one doesn't pay attention to the tree. It will be the first Christmas with us for the other dog, and I know he'll just look at everything and think, "Oh boy, oh boy!!! Toys!!!"

Even my 12 year old said we better not decorate because of the cat and dog..

Last year we hung big ornaments from the ceiling to make it more festive.

I have FIVE cats, only one gives a hoot about the tree, the others totally ignore it. First year I didn't have to remove one from it!!
