Christmas tree preference

You say tree, as if you assume there is only one... I just finished getting base lights on all of our trees. There are two 7'+ trees, three 5'-6', two 4' and five 2-3' trees for a total of 12. I'm eyeing 2 trees at Home Depot for replacements of ones we usually have but need replacing.

Anyway, the present tree (one of the 7') is a combo of DH's childhood ornaments, my childhood ornaments, travel ornaments, gifts, and regular ornaments I find along the way.

The other trees are themed: Disney (multiple), Star Wars, Peanuts, Hallmark Frosty Friends, Seattle sports teams, Sci-Fi and Space. I have too many Disney ornaments so they alternate years. This year is Hallmark, and some random stuff. Last year were Sketchbook and Disney Parks ornaments.

DH's sister usually alternates. One year is family, the other is color coordinated. Her kids are elementary school age, so I'm not sure if she is still doing that or if the kids prefer the family ornaments every year. DH's parents' is always family. My Dad... he's where the decorating bug came from. Since 1986, it's been as if Santa's Workshop / Hallmark Channel movies exploded. 30+ trees that alternate between all Disney and all everything else. Although, now that it's just him, and in a different house, he only does it the years we visit (and flies me out to help decorate). In off years, he has a single tree that he decorates with all his new additions for the year.

The last time we put up a tree is was mix and match. We have a lot of Disney ornaments, including a tinker belle tree topper but also colored balls, ones kids made, and other random ones.

We have 2 trees and both are a mish-mash. The one in our game room is travel/Disney/sports. The one in the living room is mostly the kids. Between the grandmas, aunts and me gifting my daughters ornaments since they were babies plus the ones they’ve made in school, they each have many ornaments of their own. Once their ornaments are up, I fill in with ornaments that DH and I have—some Lenox, he has a bunch of Wizard of Oz ornaments and a few from my childhood plus ones we have bought over the years that aren’t Disney/travel/sports—mostly Santas, snowmen etc. Once the kids have homes of their own we’ll be back to using more of our own ornaments.

My main tree is a mishmash of ornaments I’ve collected over the decades. I still have two from my grandmother.

I also have a small tabletop tree where tacky and somewhat damaged ornaments go. I can’t throw them away.

Both. I used to be very Martha Stewart with my tree. Very themed, coordinated and everything in it’s place. They were quite the showstopper. Over time I’ve let the kids take over after I’ve laid the base. The base gets changed out every couple of years once I get bored with it. The last few years it’s been old fashioned colored lights, silver and blue bead garland, popcorn garland and snowflakes. After that is up the tree is a mishmash of handmade ornaments the kids have made, Disney Sketchbook and family ornaments with the date and our names on them. The tree gets bigger every year to accommodate them all and my fancy Radko ornaments haven’t seen the light of day in years. Still a showstopper and quite sentimental.

In the living room I put up a small themed tree just for me to feed my inner Martha. I would call it “vintage kitsch” done in pinks, teals and olive green. In older DD’s room I put a small “woodsy” tree with red, green and black plaids in a tin bucket. DS hasn’t bothered with his tree and younger DD started an orange, teal and cream theme for hers last year but never put it up. We’ll see what happens this year.

We have one of each. I prefer the mix and match tree with colored lights and memories. DH prefers the color coordinated tree. Every Christmas I say we need a bigger house so I can put up a third or fourth tree! I love Christmas and I love decorating for it!

Personal. We collect ornaments from our travels, plus I put up a few things my kids made when they were little. We have a mix of bulbs plus some Hallmark ornaments, sports teams, Disney/Marvel/ Universal, homemade items, cloth ornaments, etc. I buy some every year after Christmas, too. It's our crazy family tree and I love it all.

Being that I'm the only one that decorates the tree and un-decorates when Christmas is over, I pretty much do what I like. Ornaments are all gold, clear glass. Ribbon is sheer in the middle with gold edges. Star on top light up. Used to decorate another tree, a 9 footer, by myself too. I'd put a mix of different ornaments on it....Disney, handmade, etc. Once that tree broke, I stopped.

It depends on the tree. We have 12 trees, 11 of which have a theme. Even though the themes are more “fun” than elegance — Disney, fish, safari, etc. — I think they still manage to look more classy than not. The twelfth tree, the largest one, is the family tree and it has framed photos and all the sentimental and memories-type ornaments on it. Even though it’s the mishmash tree, I think that one is the prettiest of the bunch.

All our decorations are such a hodge podge of mis-matched. Tree is alot of Disney as well as other travel destinations (we buy an ornament from everyplace we visit). Then our non-tree decorations are a mixture of mostly Jim Shore Disney statutes then other random things I find locally that I like.

I think with everything matching is beautiful. But I don't want to not see all the decorations I love each year.

You must have a very large house! We have only ever had the one tree.

We're in the 'both' category. We have one tree that has all the ornaments we've collected over the years and one in our foyer that is all Lenox ornaments and has a white theme.

We only have one tree, and it's filled with memory-ornaments as well as purchased basic ornaments to "fill it out." Over the years we've used fewer filler ornaments as our ornament collection has grown. I'm not sure what'll happen this year, as DD, SIL, and his 6yo live with us now. We have given DD a commemorative ornament every year since she was born, meaning there are 29 ornaments to add to our tree. Might be the year we get a 2nd tree (so we have one in our living room, and they have one in theirs).

OH, I forgot the tree in our bedroom. I had covid last Christmas and was isolating in the bedroom, so no tree for me. DH bought a 2' tall white tree with multicolored fiber optic lights, as he knows how much I like lights. We never decorated it, but I didn't miss out on a Christmas tree. It's still on my bureau... guess it's time to plug it in!

I have 4 trees (well really 6 but one is about a foot tall and came with some decorations attached, and one is ceramic), I would say 2 of each. Living room is red and gold, my bedroom is teals and purples to match my decor, exercise room is Disney themed, and downstairs is all my personal/memories/travels/misc ornaments.

Well up until this year my tree was always a mixture of all the ornaments that we’ve collected through the years. This included ornaments from when the kids were in preschool that I would still put on the tree. This year I saw a picture of a tree that had only white and black ornaments on it and I thought it looked very nice. I warned my family what I was going to do and I said I wanted to try it out this year. While the tree does look nice, it is very impersonal. I still could switch but I just don’t feel like it. It’s a huge tree and no one helps out with it anymore. Next year I’ll donate all these ornaments and get back to our personal tree.

Kinda both? 95% of the "big" ornaments are Disney themed. 80% of the fillers are golden and/or star themed. Probably need to get a second tree for next year cause I just keep buying ornaments. I have some that I match with my Mom too. I love Xmas, reminds me of home.

Ours is much more personalized. We have a lot of ornaments from our travels, homemade ones, ornaments depicting life events or hobbies, pets, etc.

We just got back from Greece and Italy and I delighted in putting the ornament we bought in Santorini on the tree then realized we never did buy one in Italy.

Guess we have to go back now. Oh darn.

We only have one tree, and when we decorate it we use a combo of ornaments from various travels and ones we've picked up over the years. Last January I went thru everything and handed the kids all of their ornaments they've picked out over the years so they can have them for their trees now that they are out of the house, so it may be a bit odd to see what I have to work with when we put up the tree later in December.
We always watch White Christmas when we decorate the tree. Not sure when we started doing that, I just can't remember not doing it now!
