Christmas Shopping 2010

I started my list yesterday but haven't purchased anything. Every year I have a shoppping deadline. I must be done by Dec.1st.

Hi all -

I'm looking for Pillow Pets advice. What stores carry them? Are they always $20? What age kids are you buying them for?

My 8-year-old son thinks he wants one. TRU website says age 3-5, but the "official" pillow pets website says newborns to grandparents. He has always loved stuffed animals and loves to snuggle up with blankets and his animals. He's one of those kids that sleeps with at least 10 animals in bed with him.

Let me know what you think. Thanks!

My dd said she wants the Panda, she will be close to 13 at Christmas. I'm going to check Bed Bath & Beyond because I have a 20% off coupon and I haven't seen them anywhere else except a Kiosk in the mall and they aren't the real ones. (There was a thread on here before about them and IIRC the quality wasn't that great for the same price as the real ones).

I grabbed another gift yesterday, a snuggie. I said I'd never buy one but dd likes them and I found one with peace signs on it. Then when I was in Target I saw a tie dyed blue on for $7.50 (50%) off and debated returning the peace sign one, but I didn't since it was ony $15 and dd loves peace signs. I went to Kmart looking for Legos because some of the stores have some of the Atlantis ones, Miners and Star Wars on clearance, plus clearance toys were an extra 30% off. My store still had the sets full price s o its definitely a YMMV but worth a look. These were some specific sets that posters on another board found on clearance.
Neptune Carrier
Typhoon Turbo Sub
Guardian of the Deep Sea
Corporate Alliance Tank Droid
Separatists Shuttle
ARC-170 Starfighter

We got a puppy one at walgreens- of all places- yes the real one, and it was 1999

I saw some of the pillow pets at TRU today. They are the same ones as Walgrrens and same price.

For those of you who have Barbie lovers. the new Barbie DVD: barbie a fashion fairytale comes out tomorrow and TRU has it for 11.99

Thanks! She likes the movies better than the toys! We did find a couple that she would like this year, but I know she would love the show!!

My daughters LOVE barbies. My dd9 is really into the movies! Thanks.

I just came from walmart and I was looking at the flat screen tvs. I was thinking about getting dd11 one for her room. She's not asking for one, but it would look really nice in there and she would be THRILLED! I hadn't priced the 19 inch ones out before but I was seeing them from $198-$228. Not bad at all, and of course I would buy it on black friday. I'm thinking I could get one for $150 and possibly a little less. I'm excited about that!

Now that we have chilly fall weather going on here, i'm ready for more christmas shopping and I'm starting my countdown until black friday. (That's a holiday in itself for me! My friends as well):dance3:

I have 3 girls- 9 (almost 10) , 7 and the little one will be 4 on 12/27- so I need stuff for christmas and birthday for her- and I have NO idea what to get any of them!!! ahhhhhh-- I have seen the squink things (?) and I don't get it am I missing something here- are they just little rubber figures? and what are the fish interactive aquarium things Fin Fin? - I am mostly at a loss as to what to get for the oldest-- they grow up so fast!

I still haven't started actually buying anything but DH and I narrowed down our list a little this weekend. He's been wanting to get Andrew a DS and mama said NO! He has a Leapster that hasn't been working too well lately. It was a hand me down and he's used it for 2+ yrs. now. We have about 10 games for it. The DS is expensive and I don't feel that he's ready for it at 6 yrs old. Once I showed DH the price of the DS plus accessories and games- he agreed.

So on our Christmas list so far:

Andrew:
  • Christmas Eve PJ's- tradition at my house
  • Leapster2 and a new game
  • Books for his Tag Reader
  • Legos- Star Wars and some plain old regular ones for building

Emily:
  • Christmas Eve PJ's- tradition at my house
  • Leapster2 and a new game (She keeps trying to take Andrew's Leapster all the time so we figure she's ready for one)
  • Tag Reader and a book (She keeps taking his Tag too! ;) )
  • Princess Barbie Dolls

Does anyone know when TS3 comes out on DVD yet? I'm hoping it's before Christmas and if so it's going on my list. :thumbsup2

So I have been reading this thread since page 1 but I finally decided to jump in! I have a lot of stuff done - niece and 2 nephews done, 2 grab bags for adults on my husbands side of family done, i took the idea of the gift card tree and have purchased most of those for my brother and mother-in-law.
The big gift for my DS's 4 and 7 will be the Wii. I thought i would get the console plus 1 game for each. I much prefer to be done with shopping and not have to deal with the crowds of black friday shopping. Has anyone waited until after Thanksgiving in past years to gt the Wii or games? Do you think there will be any big sales this year on them or should I just get it now so I know I will have it?:confused3

Thanks!

I got the girls each the Frenzie fur real pet carrier that comes with a pet. My mom bought them each the wheel and the big playset for Christamas.

Sort of went backwards with shopping this weekend. I took back both of the toy story mania games that hook to the tv. Dh and I agreed that it is something they will play with for a week and not play with again. We are trying to cut back on wasteful toys this year. No buying until we get back from vacation at this point. I did spend way to much at oldnavy and gap this weekend for fall clothes for the girls. they each had about 6 outfits but that is not nearly enough since they will be wearing tit until April. I will shop black friday oldnavy sale. Love this sale.

TRU is having a fisher price sale this week, buy 2 get 1 free. I was able to get the new baby all 3 Santa gifts with that sale! :cool1:

I am also on the hunt for the Barbie The Fashion Fairytale Doll and Carriage so if you see a good sale on it let me know!TRU has 25% off their Barbie things this week, but I am trying to wait till they have the buy a certain amount and get a GC deals.
My daughter(will be 6 in December) loves crafts and wants to be a fashion designer so if you see any deals please let me know..

Also I am trying to figure out some good "educational" games for her for her DS.. She had a Leapster(and the DS) and i really like the educational games she had on there(math, a phonics and a couple others) but it recently got water in it and is not working well, so I am going to focus on the DS.
What are some games that your kids like?

Does anyone know when TS3 comes out on DVD yet? I'm hoping it's before Christmas and if so it's going on my list. :thumbsup2

DD would probably still use it, but my older son gave her his old Nintendo DS--so that works...I didn't have to buy one!! He had saved his money and bought a psp go off of ebay!!!!
:welcome: to newbies and lurkers!!!!

I agree, the black friday old navy sale is AMAZING! I hit that store every year, it's so worth it.

As for the one who asked about the squinkies. That's really all they are. They can go on bracelets, pencil tops and they sell playsets. They don't really "do" anything, I think if a child is going to want them they're REALLY going to want them. If not, then they're no big deal. My kids LOVE little character things like this, which is why I've already purchased them. We've been hearing they're going to be popular. They see them on the commercials and the kids say "Awww, they're so cute" :rolleyes1 They just like cute stuff!

Hmmm, I will have to check out the Old Navy sale on Black Friday if it is THAT good :thumbsup2 I think DH and I may try to head out this year and get a couple of flat screens for our younger kids rooms. The oldest got our old one when we re-did the family room and the little ones are crying foul.

So, I have done a little more shopping. It is all going in rubbermaid totes to keep kids out (we store clothes in totes just like them so they never bother them.) In the totes so far:

DD 8:
Stocking stuffers: BABW lotion, Secret body spray (these two I got free when I bought something else, normally I wouldn't have gotten her anything by Secret LOL) A Squinkie bracelet and the Squinkie pink diamond thing, the purple and the pink Zoobles.

Barbies: Rocker Barbie and Peaches and Cream Barbie (reproductions) - taking me back to my childhood, I keep taking them out and gazing lovingly at them!
Build a Bear Hot Fudge Bear and 3 outfits
Part of Santa's gift - 4 bitty baby outfits (from Amazon), the Our Generation bed and shoe rack for her AG dolls, ordered but not here yet: Sugar Dog/Book

DS 11:
NOT MUCH!!! *Sigh* He is so hard to buy for, hoping to work on him this weekend. So far, a Caligraphy set. Woo hoo! LOL

DS 6:
Stocking: 2 baby potato heads, one construction worker and one cowboy

Build a Bear Mint Choc Chip Bear and 3 outfits
Ordered but not here yet: DS game Kung Zhu, comes with hamster toy

I'm almost done w/ DD. She is getting another doll and I'll order a couple of outfits when I get her. I plan to buy them a couple of DS games a piece. I'm thinking Kinect and some games for DS 11's xbox maybe. He also wants a year of XBox live and a new headset and a couple of the texter add ons. I know I want him to have a camera. I was also looking at some sketching stuff, he is a pretty good artist.Still stuck on the younger DS. Possibly Hot Wheels, maybe some Legos. He'd love an inflatable jumper so we may do that (do you think you could set one up in a basement? I have no idea how "huge" they get but that would be awesome winter fun for him and his friends!!)

PS - do those of you with girls AND boys find it's easier to find gifts for your girls? I guess just because she likes what I liked as a little girl so anything I see that I go "Ooooh!" over I know she'll love LOL Dh has no ideas for boys, he says it's all changed too much! ;)
