Christmas Shopping 2010

So far I have gotten the bitty twins at a rummage sale for $15.00. lg bin of complete build a bear outfits for $20.00 at the same sale, bitty crib off of ebay and bitty twins stroller also from ebay, these are for my 5 and 6 yr old granddaughters.2 big shoeboxes of bionicles for grandson for $10.00 from yard sale, can't beat these yard sales. Now starting to pick up Calico Critters and little pet shop, not to bad so far I think.

I have offically started! I got hubby cabela's big game hunter and preordered halo which comes out next month, and pre ordered the world of warcraft expansion, and the new call of duty game! He's done!!!!

DD keeps making her list longer and longer! She's 6 and can't make up her mind on what she wants santa to bring!

Thinking of doing digital frames for all the grandparents with photos from the past 3 years we've lived away from all of them. They all live on the west coast and we're in Maine. Hoping the frames go on sale soon

And I've scheduled our holiday pictures to be taken first weekend in October!

Not to bad for me last year I was done shopping early October hoping for the same or even earlier if I can this year! I really enjoyed being able to not stress about gifts and just get into the holiday and baking and absorbing all the Christmas spirit!

Doesn't get better at 7 ;). I just tell my DD to put it all on her list and while Santa can't bring it all, he decides what's best. She's been OK with that. She's pretty easy to please and happy with anything!

My dd is 7 and can't keep from waffling back and forth either! I told her the same thing...just make a huge list and we would see what happens!! I agree with being not-stressed for the holiday....our Disney trip is the week before Tday, so you know how you feel like you need a holiday, after vacation...well, I get one!!! :rotfl: When we get back I have a few days to do ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!! Then of course, I get to bake a turkey!

My mom found this fur real pet thing same thing as zuh zuh but it is made by hasbro and she bought them each the big house and wheel for Christmas. So I may buy them each a couple more of the pets. It does look a lot better made. We already have the zuh zuh stuff and my girls love it. But our's is the biggest peice of junk ever it never stays together. My mom is the one that bought them the zuh zuh stuff last Chrismtas and even made a comment about how cheap it is made.

I know what you are referring to. It is the Fur Real Furry Frenzies. They are new. I saw them at Target right beside the Zhu Zhu Pets. I bought the big playground set with the rabbit and also the kitten with the wheel for my DD7 for Christmas. I know she will love them! She loves animals and that is what she plays with almost exclusively (Zhu Zhu Pets and LPS). The Furry Frenzies playsets will be her gift from Santa along with a few Zoobles that I got for her.

I can't believe I am actually finished Christmas shopping for her this early! School hasn't even started yet! I usually start in the summer with the sales and finish on BF. But, I decided that I would go ahead and buy the toys now when I can get them easily without the hassle of running around trying to find them in the stores.

Earlier, I also bought her the Zhu Zhu Pet Airport since she has been requesting it for awhile. It will be a present from us. I also bought her the pizza parlor that will either be from us or my mother. I, typically shop for my mother since it is easier for her.

So, now, I just have to concentrate on my DS14. I am not sure what I will get him. Typically, he does not start sharing ideas of what he wants until November.:scared1: But over the past few years I have been right on target with guessing what he would like and buying it before November. Last year, we gave him his first cell phone. He had not requested one but I figured he would love it. He did. Just a few days ago, he thanked me again for getting him the cell phone last Christmas. :flower3:

Happy Shopping and Dreaming of Black Friday!

Well good for you!!! And hopefully your son will start talkin Christmas soooon!!
I let my dd and my ds11 do part of their wishlist this weekend...he did one on the Lego website (picked a gazillion,of course!) and she did American Girl.I looked at the new Nintendo DSi this weekend...holy cow! Where have I been? I didn't know they were that much!!! Of course, dd wants one,but she can just keep the DS we already have! It works fine...I will just get her a few new games....

My DS9 wants the new Nintendo 3DS - anyone want to venture a guess how much that will be? DD11 wants an I-Touch - I will be looking for one of those shortly - maybe a refurb?. I just told my DH we will have to move our vacation from March until August, so we can pay off Xmas first!!! My DS9 is a believer (I think, so far), so I hate to disappoint.............. I am assuming the new 3DS will need new games as well. Both my kids also have December birthdays, it's quite the $$$ month.

I've started saving for Christmas shopping, but haven't started the shopping yet...even though I want to! Most of my gifts will come from WDW. Me and my folks are going there at the end of November. I have both my parents, two co-workers, my friend's 3 kids, and my best friend to buy for at WDW. That's like half my list! :cool1:

My husband has pointed out a few things he wants (mostly tools), but I can't remember what the items are  I always try to buy him a "big ticket" gift. Our first Christmas I bought him a Laz-E Boy chair. That was probably the most expensive gift he's ever gotten from me. This year I'm not sure about the "big ticket" gift. We're tight for money (like most people it seems) and we're expecting our first baby in January, so I'm not sure how much I'll be able to work the last month or so (I clean houses). But I will do my best to make this a great Christmas like all the rest!

Can't wait to start decorating :santa:

:welcome: to the thread!! And congrats on the baby!!! I think he/she should be his Christmas present!!! LOL!!! Buying gifts at WDW is soooo fun! I was talking to dh about decorating the other night-we can't wait either.

Good for you. Yeah that is it.

I went to walmart last night and bought her some more lps stuff. I'm also going to give her the woody doll I bought for Chritmas since I can't think of anything. I got the girls list that I need to get done. Now both of the girls will have the woody doll. younger dd has jessie so I will get her buzz. Older dd I will get her Jessie.

I'm hoping to have them done by the time I leave. Things are on track for that. This week they had the winter LPS out so I'm going to go get those this week for stockings.

Next week Jessie and Buzz doll this will be around 70.00

Week after the Fur Real frenzie piece my mom didn't get x2 30.00

Week after the new LPS play house x2 80.00

I also want to buy them each 2 leapster games Princess and the frog not sure on the other one yet.

DD18 has identified a pricey handbag that she wants for Christmas. DD12 muttered something yesterday about still hoping that she'll finally get the Wii this year! Outside of the game console and a few games, what else would I need to buy for her to get her started? I've shied away from the Wii since its launch because I'd heard all these horror stories about the number of add-ons I need to buy.

I'm still picking up stocking stuffers along the way! Hopefully I won't overdo it as I have in years past!

I'm just about finished with my ds's b-day and Christmas...he'll be getting 2 toy story duplo and 2 cars duplo sets (b-day and Christmas) along with a bunch of great buys from the target sale
Also, I'm sure everyone else had already thought of this but it just occurred to me that I could use my Disney movie rewards towards gifts...i got my kids 4 dvds of the classic cartoons from the 40s and 50s..we rented one from the library and they were cracking up.
Happy Christmas shopping! :)

Aren't those movies the best!!!!?? Which one did you get...if you remember....we are old movie junkies around here...not just Disney either. We love Cary Grant, Myrna Loy...all the oldies-black and white...to me, who can beat it!!?? They are funny, clean, and modest!!! And those people are truly acting!!! I just love 'em!!!

I'm curious about this too timzagain....I'm thinking about the Wii for DD and the Band Hero for Wii for DH......wondering what else I have to buy so we can actually USE it on Cmas day ;)

I bought a Wii for my DH and DS a couple of Christmases ago, and if i remember, the only thing "extra" that I needed was a special cable. They had the cables at Best Buy, but they were a little pricey ($30 maybe?? it's all a little fuzzy, sorry...) so I ordered one from Amazon for a much cheaper price. That was ALL I needed. I'm sure someone else can comment on this to be certain about the cable. I also got an HDTV last year and I needed a cable for that, too, so maybe I'm getting it all mixed up??

You can go crazy buying extra game controls, etc.. but there really isn't anything else you specifically need. My wii came with 2 controllers, and over the years we've gotten another one, and also a control charger, and a couple of other things (the steering wheels for the driving games, which you don't NEED in order to play), etc...

When I bought it, I asked, at the store, what else was needed to make it "ready to play" on Christmas morning. I figured that if I bought something that wasn't needed, it could be returned. Even with the cable, I wasn't absolutely sure that we needed it, who knows what cables DH has around here???:confused3

Anyway... it all worked out and the wii has been a big hit in our house. My son loves several of the games, and he's not a typical "gamer" type kid. I even enjoy the driving games, although I'm TERRIBLE at them:rotfl:. If you ever see me driving a MarioKart in real life... steer CLEAR! :rotfl2:

Good luck and happy hunting!:santa:

I am also an early shopper. I usually have things done by November if I can. This year we will be in Disney for Christmas

Now I need to figure out what to get them since I will be carrying it with me. Both of my girls want pillow pets. One daughter really likes jewelry so that is easy to pack. My other daughter likes art supplies which are not as easy to pack.

I am thinking about sending a box down with gifts. Has anyone done this before? I could ship down the pillow pets and they could carry them home on the plane. The jewelry I could bring in my carry on.

Other suggestions for gifts for girls who are 8 that are easy to pack.

Happy Holidays!

THANKS! That helps me get started and have a game plan when I go looking!

just saw this thread and had to add my own nonsense to it. :rotfl:

me and my husband don't have a lot of people to buy for with no kids and a only a few relatives that we buy for. I do make everyone cookies and fudge in Christmas tins which everybody adores!

I saw at the beginning of the thread that the goal was to buy before our Disney trip (the week after thanksgiving for us) but i planned to buy everything while we were there! My mom likes Tinkerbell (though that's probably the only thing about Disney that she doesn't dislike :confused3) so i plan to buy her a shirt or coffee mug thingy or something adult-like (no dolls or anything she'd just toss them in a drawer) My brother and dad will be the hard ones to buy for. I might get dad something with the Rams on it because he likes that football team, and my brother a shot glass from house of blues and those other "cool" bar places.:cool2:

I'm getting my grandma on my mom's side a pill box from china (Epcot) because she LOVES little boxes :confused3. and my grandpa a shirt or something... not really sure... he isn't really into disney either... I could get them both a coo-coo (sp??) clock i think they have those somewhere? are they expensive?

My other grandma is hard too, maybe a cute little crystal thing? or maybe i'll just get her a gift card somewhere(not disney)

my inlaws are super easy. Twin sisters one into Hello Kitty(epcot: Japan) and the other is into Nightmare Before Christmas. And my MIL and FIL are going to disney next year soo we're just gonna get them a disney gift card! good idea?

My husband will be easy because he's the biggest Disney Freak ever so I could probably just follow his ooh's and ahh's while we're there.

so fun :woohoo: i love shopping for christmas! I can't wait til we have children to buy for! (ok maybe i can wait a little bit longer! should probably finish college first!)

:welcome: to the new friends!!! Glad you are all making some progress,be it large or small!
Jerseyguy's Wife~ that post was hysterical!! I love it!!! You will fit in perfectly right here!!!

Thanks. It is comforting to know that I am not the only one! I tend to overdo Christmas, so this year I am trying REALLY hard to stay on budget. Every year, Mom or I will say "this is going to be a slim Christmas" but we go totally insane anyway! I use a notebook to list my purchases and usually each person gets 2 lines. This year, alas, they all get one. If it doesn't fit on the line, it doesn't get bought.
Here's what I've got:

Mom: ? I may build her some shelving in her laundry room for her clothes so she doesn't have to go upstairs so much anymore. Poor arthritic mom.
Dad: 3 Big Dogs tees
DB#1: 2 Big Dogs tees
DB#2: 2 Big Dogs tees
Neph1: Harry Potter books (gently used)
Neph2: 4 pair pjs
Niece1: Tink hoodie, 2 pr. jeans
Grandma: Picture collage
MIL: picture collage and bath&body stuff
SIL1: No clue
BIL1: Cook's Magazine (I am so glad he loves this or I would be lost!)
Niece2: 2 pr Princess pjs, Snow White ornament
SIL2: ?
BIL2: ?
DH: Not telling. He's an accidental surprise ruiner and he is also on the DIS.
DS3: Ornament, Tigger soundstage
DS5: Ornament, ? Guess I'll know more after he's been in kindergarten for a few weeks
I got a great deal at bigdogs.com. I think it was 2/$10 with free shipping on any order. I hit up Kmart for most of the pjs. Half Price Books and yard sales for HP. I have several things from the Disney store online that I bought early this summer (think winter clearance).

For all those who have a problem father like me, I usually end up buying him...ready?....socks, underwear, and beer. I know, I know; I sound pretty weird. But he never wants anything. But, at this point, he counts on me to buy him socks and underwear! :rotfl: Sad, but true. And he likes all kinds of odd beer.
I buy all the small kids on my list an ornament every year. The idea occurred to me because when I went away to college (awhile back), I wanted to get a Christmas tree, but realized I didn't have anything to put on it. I was so upset about it that I cried. My poor roommate didn't know what to do, so she ended up helping me make ribbon ornaments! God Bless her. i am happy (or should I be ashamed?) to say that I now own 6 bins worth of tree ornaments and a few shelves worth of "decorations". My DH says I have a serious Christmas addiction. He says he'd try for an intervention, but he's afraid he'd get killed with gingerbread or something.
For any of you with a person on your list as crazy for Christmas as you are, I suggest Dept. 56 North Pole stuff. They are somewhat expensive, but I LOVE mine. I can have Santa's whole world right in my office! There are several retailers (around here anyway) that ALWAYS sell it at 15% off.
I think that's all I've got. Happy shopping! :santa:
