Christmas Shopping '09

Well I bought my first Christmas presents this week. Sort of. I bought the girls the Hanna Montana Movie DVD. I might give it to them early for our road trip to WDW. I also went to a partylite candle party last night and ordered two little votive holders that say Merry Christmas in different languages. Maybe for a hostess gift or a teacher?

DD8 wants Mario kart for DS and is saving her money. I told her even if she has the money, she has to have permission and she should just ask for it for Christmas. It's hard to make her wait, but I need something to get her!!!

Kim, you could post your playstation on here and let people PM you if they are interested. It will be a good $$deal for someone..maybe for their Christmas! The Wii game for Toy Story is supposed to be out on 9/15. I reeeealllly want that!!! We let the kids play one at the store the other night.. I think it was resort...it had ping pong! It was hilarious watching my dd try to do that!! Ha!!!!!

Well, both my boys will be stayingwith friends tonight, so Mike is taking me and Gracie on a date!! But, I am worried my younger son is coming down with something. He just has a funny look and keeps saying he's tired. They swam this morning and he says...that swimming wore me out. But he sounds stopped up too...could be his allergies flaring up....it's about that time of year. So, I hope he feels like playing if he does do a spend-the-night...I hate to tell them they can and then they can't go...totally off the Christmas topic! Sorry!

Well....I am ready to buy our next item - Ipod Nanos for both girls however....and I know it sounds trivial....I can't decide on colors!!! They both have the same favorite color. DD10 is much more adamant about that color (green) though. So she usually gets everything in green. Poor younger dd8 doesn't get nearly as much in green so I have been sitting around trying to figure out how to be fair. dd10 has a green shuffle. dd8 has a hot pink (her 2nd favorite). What a pain...I need to get moving on this!! Any thoughts?

As far as travel, we always fly to Louisiana from the midwest. I even did that when I was a little girl. We all live in different states so everyone goes there. My parents fly/drive down from MI. My brother comes in from CA. My sister now lives in Louisiana. Cousins come in from Mississippi, GA, AZ, TX. We only see each other, because of the distance, about once a year. Last year we missed...too much going on and too expensive, but I never want to have to do that again. We then have to add another 1200 or so for flights down south at xmas. Expensive and exhausting!

What if you got them both a green one but had them engraved with their name on the backs.

I just finished dd's presents. I got her an ipod touch, and a flip camera (Amazon price mistake ;)) for her big gifts. Today I ordered her The Wizards of Waverly Place DS game and those little hamster toys. I know I have a few things in the gift closet for her too so she is done. Her b-day is a few weeks after Christmas and I have her done for that too.
Now I need to work on my boys. All they really want are Star Wars figures and some video games so they'll be pretty easy (and cheap )

We always stay home Christmas day. All our family is a couple hours away so as long as Santa visits we will spend that day at our house. I miss getting together Christmas Eve with my family and Christmas Day with dh's so I am looking foward to being able to do that again in a few years.

Where did you order the hamster toys? On the budget board thread everyone is talking about how hard they are to find/get. I planned on ordering them from amazon, but their price is crazy now, and target has them, but their s/h prices are just as crazy. I need two for my two younger kids and can't seem to find any!

skip323~ I had a hard time picking the color for my sons Ipod last Christmas, he had 2 picked out and told me either one was fine...so that was hard! But, i did have them engrave his name on it...too much of that stuff is 'walking' off nowadays!! And the fact that we don't know anyone around here with his name,...someone would have some explaining to do it they were found with it!!!

Luvmy3~ do the boys like Legos? My son just picked out a few Star Wars legos to add to his Christmas List!

and as far as Hamster toys, are ya'll talking about stuff from the movie G-Force?

I did order from Target. I got the starter kit (comes with 1 hamster) and a set of 2 hamsters. My shipping was $16 and it killed me to pay it but I figure I'd rather do that than go on a mad dash to find the things. Since they won't ship for a few weeks I'll keep my eye out and if I find them I'll just cancel the order.

The hamsters are the go go hamsters, or zhu zhu pets, ofr cepia go go pets. (I have no idea why they are called different things) Apparently they are going to be a big item this year. I'm sure they will be cute and played with the week between Christmas and New Years but then end up in the bottom of the toy bin. At least dd will fiinally get that pet hamster she wants

Yes, my boys do like Lego's. I got them a couple of the bigger Star Wars sets last year for Christmas, and my older ds has a few smaller sets but they play more with the Lego star wars people than the ships. There was a thread in the community board with a link to the sets of people so I'll probably get a few of those. The sets are so expensive and I hate to spend all that money if they really just want the little people in them. I know Amazon had them on sale last year before Christmas so you might want to check there for a good sale.

Hello everyone...I have started my shopping and hit some great deals I think. I only have one DD (3.5 year old) and am not sure what her BIG present should be. I have spent the last month cleaning out and decluttering her toys and our house. She had so much that she never touched.
I have two 3.5yo girls to buy for and one set of 1.5 yo twins (boy and girl). Really have no idea for the twins.

So far for the 3.5 yo's ( DD and DN) I bought the Ariel Styling Head and a really pretty Tinkerbell doll. For one of the twins I have a musical puzzle. I also hit an 80%off sale at TRU on Tinkerbells clickable jewelry and jewelry box..so for a couple of dollars I got my BFF's DD finished.

My question, do you think a 3.5yo is too young for a leapster? Any other suggestions for that age? Any idea's on what the HOT toys of the season are going to be?

Found some stocking stuffers today (Hannah Montana and HSM water bottles). When I put them in the "gift hiding" closet, I found stuff from last year that I had forgotten. So, I'm even more ahead that I had planned.

just found this thread. I am ready to get started with this.

I am going to be starting this week. I have already have idea #1 for my daughter she is 8 and I am going to get her a digital camera she loves the one in her DSi.

so she will get a couple of other little things.

I need to start buying gift cards for my brothers family. I don't want to be hit at the last minute and there are 8 of them.

:welcome: to all the new friends joining in!!!

Merlinspride~ a Leapster is great for a 3 or 4 year old. I got it for my dd at that age...she liked it but over the year she liked it better and better. In fact, that first one she wore the screen out and we are on #2!

Just thought I would throw this out there as an idea. The year my DD was 3.5, Santa brought her a white vanity table for her room and a FAKE make-up set that had pretend eyeshadows, lipsticks, nail polish, a working hair dryer and pretend curling iron. She has always been into playing dress up. She is 6.5 now and STILL plays at it. We have graduated to real make up but she knows that stays in the bathroom. Just an idea. The next year she got a really nice art desk from Step 2 that would have worked at 3.5 too. Still uses that as well. Just some ideas :)

I'm moving right along, a little at a time. This week I bought these little finger bikes, I think they're called Trick Flix, or something like that. My 8yo saw a commercial for them and wanted them and since the boys play with their Tech Decks alot I ordered some in case they're hard to find closer to Christmas. They're not expensive at all, I don't think, it was 7.99 at TRU for a bike with some extra parts and 14.99 for a ramp thingy.

I figured out what video games I'm going to buy for a couple of my boys, now I just have to watch for sales.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I am really leaning towards the Leapster. She has a vanity , and I was actually thinking of getting rid of it becuase the drawer is EXTREMELY hard to open and close...but I love the fake make up idea. She is all into 'lipstick' aka chapstick and doing hair.

Last night I went to target with the $5 off Hasbro coupons...well guess what, they are good on Hasbro, but also Parker Brothers and Milton Bradley..they have Hasbro symbols near the copyright sections of the games. So we got Candyland, Shutes and Ladders and Spongbob Memory for $1.99 each!!!

:wave2: Hello everybody!(I don't know if anyone has posted this or not) Found some stocking stuffers @Target...
$1 disney socks minnie, princesses ,tink
star wars socks for boys

Best Buy has older disney DVD's $6.99
Old Yeller 2 disc special, white fang, shaggy dog, etc

Good Morning everyone!!!
Well, my ticker is at the 3 month mark today!!!!!! Hooray for me!:cheer2::dance3::cheer2::cutie::santa:

Well, we had a wonderful little cool spell this week, got everybody out and reworking flower beds and starting some fall type planting. also, got us all on the road to sinus flare ups!!!! Today, i woke up with an oncoming migraine at 7 sharp! So, laying around waiting for some meds to kick in with a rag on my head:rotfl::headache: Feeling it getting 'not worse' which is good...hopefully I can kill this one!!

So, what is your plan for Labor Day? We are going to work in the flower beds...when it's not raining!!That's the forecast from today until Monday!!! So, we'll maybe have days of NOTHING to do but be inside. I know all the rest of the kids go back to school next week...so, enjoy this weekend with the kids!! Our stores are packing out the Halloween stuff already...which means Christmas stuff is right behind it!!!! Just want to encourage you all to at least have those Christmas lists going. I know some of you like to wait til a little closer to time, but at least be prepared and organized. That's half the battle;) !
Okay, Friday update ladies:

Is it really coming out on 9/15 :cool1: For some reason I thought it wans't coming out until October. Perhaps I'll be taking that one off my Christmas list and getting it for myself for my birthday at the end of this month- December may be too long to wait!
We played the resort one in Best Buy last weekend too! It was so much fun. You should have seen us canoeing  People looked at us like we were nuts then were asking to try it themselves!
My question, do you think a 3.5yo is too young for a leapster? Any other suggestions for that age? Any idea's on what the HOT toys of the season are going to be?
We got DS the Leapster for his 4th bday and he figured out how to use it right away. He loves it!

16 WEEKS!!!:santa:
I've got my list going and have gotten a few things. Still waiting til it gets closer in case anyone changes their mind on anything.

This weekend is a home improvement weekend for us...ewwwww! We're removing one of the garage doors and replacing it with a door and window for phase one of finishing in part of the garage. I'm excited about the finished product but wish it was done already. It will probably be a few months in the works. :headache:

I am lucky all my kids are really easy to buy for :) So what we do all threw the year is when we are out shopping or what ever we look at things that is on clearance or can get really cheap. So we shop all year around they forget what we buy so it works out great lol.But then on black friday things we couldnt find on sell we go out and get we usally end up spending 300 on all four of our kids and they everything a child could want. Had someone walk up to me last year on black friday and say they wish they was my kids cause of everything i had. I also like to give to toys for tots I want to know if there is something i can do with there old toys they dont play with because they are like new i dont want to just throw them away( things they grow out of and dont play with any more) i would like to give them to someone who needs them but toys for tots only takes new toys and i have no idea what to do with them. Have so many i dont know where to put them all some plzzzz give me a idea. Thank you :)
