Christmas parade taping question

I did search for this but didn't find a "straight forward" answer.

We will be at the world during the taping of the christmas day parade, I realize that is filmed take over take and for hours. If you want to be in the "Crowd" is it open for anybody? What are your chances and it is even worth it? My DD thinks it would be fun to see the celebs and "possibly" be on TV. Its on one of our "Relax" days so it's not like we would be wasting vacation days and we have plenty of R&R planned. Thoughts?

Also question #2, are the shops on main street open to shop at that day? It looks like the parade is filmed on main street?

ETA: when they do the interviews of "people at disney world" saying why they love disney - are they picked at random, or hired? Yes I'm full of questions!

I am almost positive that the taping is Friday the 5th and Saturday the 6th with Sunday the 7th as a backup if it rains.

agreed that is the usual plan

We were there in 2010 for the taping on Friday December 5th. Once we got past the Main Street chaos all was well. We didn't want to hang out and watch the parade but we did stop and watch a bit on the way out (stood up on the 2nd level of the train station)

Last year, parade taping did extend beyond the designated weekend but it occurred before park opening with CMs only.

As long as you avoid the areas in MK where taping is taking place, you'll be fine. Because the Christmas Day program is featuring Frozen, it may include taping at DHS. Actually, it probably will include DHS.

But, unlikely at DHS on the listed dates, and very unlikely a "disruptive" taping as takes place in MK.

They usually tape on the first two days, with the third day as a rain date if needed. Or if they have any last minute shooting to be done. As for crowd levels, you will mostly only experience a large crowd on Main Street when they are taping. But once you get past that part the rest of the park is fine. Then once you hit parade time they are done filming so no worries about crowds.

Yes.

ABC-TV, often at 9AM, eastern.
Local ABC affiliate stations can air it at various times, if they choose.
Some choose to not air it at all, but most do air it.

Is Neil Patrick Harris one of the hosts this year. I thought he did a grea job in the opening last year and he is scheduled as a narrator earlier in the week for the CLP.

The Hosts haven't been named and Disneyland is supposed to be taping this weekend. Some other forums were guessing Josh Gad but there is nothing definite yet. Neil Patrick Harris had the same CLP scheduling last year and he and his family were in the parks and at MVMCP throughout the week leading up to the taping.

We're hoping to be there then too and I'm curious to know the answers. My birthday is December 6 - looks like it might be an Epcot kind of day I don't think 1 and 3 year olds will sit for take after take and likely won't think NPH is quite as awesome as mom does. lol

We are going to be there during that time too. Luckily our first morning is the 4th, so that should be good. We have plans for the evening of the 6th to watch fireworks and such. Should that be a problem?
We are also planning on the morning of the 7th. By that time I'm thinking we can avoid the Main Street chaos by taking the Train to Frontier Land and start our touring from there.

I wouldn't fret! I'm sure that will be a one-year change. I have to say that I like them mixing up the parade a bit, though I understand many people don't want to see more Frozen!!

I think it will be fine and we can expect the "cold front" to move out by next year (with the exception of the new attraction).
