There has been a lot of discussion about the committment to the parade if you were signed up as an extra. So, I emailed LightShip and this is the response I got:

If you enter the taping with a voucher, you are committed for 4 hours. In return, you get to stay in the park for the rest of the day free.

You may take breaks as needed.

Those that are bringing kids and cannot commit to the entire 4 hours may want to re-think thier participation.

Just wanted to let you guys know! I am a little worried about dd, but not too much. We spent 3 hours (yes, 3 hours) in WalMart Saturday and not one whine! So, I think she can handle 4 hours if I bring her a few little things to keep her attention. Maybe some bubbles?

While I know that being on TV is exciting to some, I personally think "Im on vacation and they want to take nearly 1/2 of my day to do this?"

Im sorry but I'd just rather not be on TV and still get to see the parade and be able to ride rides and eat and shop as I like than to committ myself to four hours.

Im telling them I choose not to participate.

A few days ago I told Kari I wanted to go to MK on Christmas day because I wanted to see the parade live, and she busted my bubble by telling me they pre record it. :(

SandrA9810 - Many a bubble have been burst when learning of this!

It is being taped on 12/2 and 12/3, all extra spots are filled. However if you happen to be an AP holder you can attend as well.

They have no way of knowing if you stayed 4 hours or not. I stayed into the second session also with no problems.

I totally understand. I almost decided against it too, but darn it, it's just something I want to do! I couldn't care less if I get on TV or not, I have been watching that parade for about 15 years now and while I too thought it was on Christmas Day, I always said every year that I want to be there for it! Since it is during my vacation and we are there for 11 days, I figured what the heck. I totally don't plan on leaving before my 4 hours are up, but things happen that can't be helped sometimes. I think by the tone of the email that I received, they understand this, but there are a lot of people who signed up for this that have no clue these are the "rules". So, it should be interesting for the production company!

That's what I was thinking too. Unless they are going to post guards every 50 feet to catch "deserters" how in the heck would they know if you just went to the bathroom and never came back? Oh well, I am not going to let this dampen my Walt Disney World Christmas Parade experience! I plan on having fun! Heck, I already have mine and dd's shirts made!

I have to agree.

You also could be standing all that time and never be seen on camera. I thought our area got filmed quite a few times and they never showed it during the parade.

This sounds like a lot of fun even if it is 4 hours. I hope everyone that gets to attend has a blast!!

How do AP get to do it? Me and kari are passholders....

I just wonder if she'll have either one of those days off.

Does anybody know what the times are for taping on Friday? 7am - 11am and lpm - 5pm?

I am pretty sure the morning one is 7-11 and I think the afternoon would be 12-4. I read somewhere that it should be over by 4. I can't even imagine walking through the gates at 7:00 am! But, I get to do it so I am so excited!

Thanks TJ! I have reservations at Boma's at 5 (first time there) and I was afraid I would have cancel/change them. I can wait either!!! I read someplace that on Saturday, they are taping at Epcot and it starts at 4AM!!!!

I think that was Sunday at Epcot at 4:00 am, but Hayden Christensen was supposed to be there and he cancelled. So, not sure if they are still doing it or not.

This is the very reason I'm doing this on this particular trip. I'm going solo. I know my dd and dh would never stand still in one place for half that time!!! So, I knew when I signed up what I was in for. But, I'm hoping those with really little kids aren't going into this with the expectation of really seeing the parade. It is so disjointed and slow moving...can almost become boring. But, I'm in for the long haul, so to speak. Now, to just figure out how I'm going to get there from BWV that early in the morning. If it's an EMH at MK, the buses might be running by 6:30..maybe???

I am so glad I saw this thread. I haven't been to disney in a couple of years and we are leaving the 1st for six days. Does this mean that MK will be closed and/ or packed? Will make sure we don't plan on attending that day, if so. What about the evening hours? Thanks to anyone who can give me any information. These boards are just as I remembered them from several years ago. Friendly, helpful and informative!! Its so good to know that some things never change! :earsgirl:

You don't choose not to participate.

You choose TO participate and experience what TV production consists of and get the chance to be on TV.

Being on TV is not guaranteed. All the clips with you in them may end up on the cutting room floor.

Most of us have been actors in school plays. You remember the rehearsals, stop, "cut!", stand around waiting, "take three!".
