Christmas ornaments

Last year I started a tradition where I give the kids a new Christmas ornament on Christmas Eve with their new pajamas. I want the ornament to represent something from their year. I just don't know where to look for ornaments this year. Last year they played Legos SO much that I got the Lego ornaments at lego.com but this year I want something different.

Where do you buy your ornaments? I don't want to make them. And I don't want them to cost me an arm and a leg. :)

I do this same exact tradition every year too. :thumbsup2
I usually get them from the Hallmark store. I can usually get them for $10 to $20. A little more expensive but they have selections that actually have to do with them.

DS6 last year received a bookbag ornanment that held a picture since it was his first year of school. This year they have an ornament that has a little woodland creature beaver maybe :confused3 that sings "All I want for Christmas is My Two Front Teeth." since he lost his first 3 teeth this year.

DH just gets their superhero  ornament which I can usually get on clearance the year before during after Christmas sales.

But I also check out Target, Boscov's, etc. Since last year I was lost with DD2 I did manage to find her a puppy and little kid ornament at Target since we got a new puppy and she seemed to be his biggest fan. Suprisingly it was on an endcap with the stationary department far away from the hoilday section.

Hallmark is my first stop though since they seem to have "occasion" ornaments and then I go from there.

Look for local holiday craft shows. We have a ton this time of year. We go to one every year on Black Friday. They always have the cutest ornaments and most of them are less than $5.

I just ordered a bunch of personalized ones from artscow! 1.99 each with free shipping. I know the delivery time can take a while and am hoping these come before christmas...

I also usually get Hallmark ornaments. I just looked at them this morning in Kohl's. They did not have them on sale, but I think the coupons can be used on them. I also try to get something that pertains to an event that happened in the year for the kids. This year they will probably get Disney ornaments since they took their first trip in March.
My MIL has always gotten them Hallmark ornaments as well. In years past she has found little gingerbread house ornaments because she makes a house with them when she comes for Christmas.

Kohls, Target, Hallmark, anywhere. One year I couldn't find a Barbie princess ornament (along time ago), so I found a small barbie princess and tied a ribbon around it to hang on the tree.

I do this every year also, but my kids get their ornament the night we set up the tree. My littlest got a Hello Kitty ornament that I picked up at Target and my middle LOVES soccer and had a great year in that sport, so her's came from Kohl's and my oldest I have not found anything yet.

Having done this same thing for all my kids for over 25 years....I have to say, the photo ornaments are my favorite, as well as all 4 of my kids favorites. They love looking at past ornaments that have their pictures. I have lots of Hallmark and other ornaments too, related to something they liked at that particular time, which can be fun to go down memory lane also.

If you have a Hobby Lobby in your area, they have tons of different ornaments, it's one of my favorite shops for speciality christmas items.

Disney Shopping has some REALLY cute ones for $9.50 last time I checked. I love them to pieces, but we didn't do a trip this year with the kids, so it doesn't exactly go "with" this year.

I'm going to get DS9 a football one and DD8 and DD6 cheerleading ones since they all did that this year for the first time.

No idea what to get DS3. He LOVES TS3 (every time we ask him "what do you want for Christmas" it's ALWAYS "A Buzz Lightyear with a laser!" LOL) so maybe that one. His big milestone was learning to use the potty this year....but I don't think he'd be too happy in 5-10 years seeing a potty training one on the tree :rotfl:

If we go to Disney then we always get one for each of us from DW.

I usually go to Hallmark. My dh has been in Boy Scouts for the last 20 years. They have Snoopy as a Scoutmaster and I always get him that one. I got that for him back in Sept so he would have it.

We also get our children each an ornament representing something about the last year and give it to them when we put the tree up. It is getting a little harder as they get older. Ours always come from the Hallmark store.

My mom has bought me a Hallmark Christmas ornament every year since I was born, and I'm 39 now. I started the tradition with my kids when DD was born. I always buy Hallmark. I also buy the Hallmark Harley ornaments for me every year.

I have ordered them in the past from Personalcreations.com They have some really neat ones. Getting ready to order again. IF you order 50.00 or more ( they have tons of great presents and decorations also) then you can use code
2HL252 online for 20%off. This is good through 12/4.

I have ordered from www.santasornamentshop.com before. They have some very cute ones. I get my kids something personalized every year and has meaning to them. This year DD will get one with a little girl missing her tooth as my dd lost her first tooth this year. DS, I'm not sure yet. He started preschool so he might get something for that.

Thanks for the site! I absolutely LOVE it! and the potty training one is ADORABLE!....opinion, should I get it for DS3 or not?

Just a reminder to put a note in with the ornament for each year to remind you (them) of why that particular ornament was chosen for them. In 20 years, no one may remember. Also, it will be a special keepsake for your children when your gone (years and years and years from now) to have that note in your handwriting to revisit each year.

That is a nice idea. I may go back and add that to last year and start that up from now on.

That's why I like the Hallmark ornaments cause they come in a box that I keep them in for the storage for the year. So I write that childs name and the year on the bottom of the box. So I will have the dated reminder evey year.
