Christmas menus?

We have a 23rd party which is friends Christmas. It is pot luck but as this is the 25th annual 23rd party I have a general idea of who will bring what. I’ll bring a cookie platter and and appetizer.

The 24th is just me and DH and he has to work. I always make bake stuffed shrimp but I need to figure out the sides.

Christmas morning we have cinnamon rolls and I make a cherry candy cane shaped pastry for when my parents arrive late morning. We have a variety of appetizers throughout the day (I’ll need to figure out what) and then cookies for dessert.

Just go to your local butcher and have them custom cut a prime rib for two; it’s doable. Or order a thick Porterhouse steak and make a “fancy sounding” sauce to go with it.

I’m a solo and eat what I want, fancy or simple. Why? ‘Cause after a lifetime of cooking for others, I’m worth it, 😉.
LOL. Had a Kidney Doctor appointment yesterday. While I only eat two or three red meat meals a week, I am told I need to cut back, so not sure in the big picture prime rib would be the best choice.

Christmas dinner is fixed by my mom. It's the same every year. Very casual

shrimp cocktail and meat and cheese tray
Honey baked ham
potato casserole
broccoli casserole
deviled eggs
various pies and cookies

My sister and I take turns hosting Christmas Eve dinner. It's might turn this year. I'm thinking:

hot crab dip with crackers and baguette
filet mignon
lobster tails
Mashed potatoes (I make them with cream cheese and tons on butter and real cream) very decadent and only on special occasions since they are terrible for you
roasted veggies
rosemary rolls
dessert - may order a cheesecake this year

We will drive from Philly down to Florida to spend Christmas week with my in-laws. I help out with the cooking and serving but don't bring anything in particular. Christmas eve we will probably go out to dinner with DH's parents and some of their friends. It's a really fun and relaxing night. Christmas day I'm not sure what's for dinner yet but MIL always discusses with us ahead of time as it's just the 4 of us (MIL, FIL, DH and me). The past couple of years has been prime rib, but turkey or ham have made appearances in the past. DH and I are happy with any of it. The main typically determines the sides so it's all still a mystery.

Just like Thanksgiving we will be at a Disney resort this year. We are going up to Orlando after presents and staying at AKL for 1 night before boarding the Fantasy! We will be eating Christmas dinner at Sanaa. I'm so excited!

Growing up, I can't recall my parents ever talked about/considered what would be on the Christmas menu until sometime in December. Mom used to like to bake cookies and would make a few of the more popular ones our family enjoyed starting in the middle of December. Cookies go stale if prepared too far in advance.

This is what I do...we have a weekly cookie (or two) every week of December...kids love that as it builds to Christmas.

And then, you're not eating stale cookies or trying to eat 6-8 cookies at once just to try them all...

Kind of not looking forward to that this year. Was going to spend it alone but decided to go to cousin's house for the holiday. She thinks that making Sauerbraten for every Christmas is the best meal as our Gram used to do that. Except she's terrible at making it. But at least the company will be good.
My son and I, the last few years we spent just us 2, we made it really special having filet mignon Waygu beef from Japan. Quite the treat!

I am hosting, but have no idea yet.
We get back from WDW 12-12, so I will be scrambling to get a lot of things done.

My family of 7 ......don't like the traditional holiday meals, so I need to come up with something else that will make all the picky eaters happy.
Maybe DD and I will plan it while we are at DLR .....we're there 11-10-15
Now I am thinking of doing some ethnic dishes......Chinese, Mexican and Italian, but I will have to think about and what everyone will eat.

My grandmother used to serve "Ukranian soul food" as my grandfather deemed it. It was great, because it was the only time I ever got to have it.

I honestly have no idea.

-Christmas Eve could be anything from a feast of finger foods to Chinese food or pizza.
-Christmas Day will hinge on whether or not we go to my MILs. Her food has been a disaster of late, so I will probably need something waiting at home in case we pay her a visit. Ham is easy.
-My family isn't coming into town until day after Christmas. DH has been itching to smoke a brisket, so that could be the route we take again this year. You've heard of Christmas in July...well, we flipped it and did 4th of July at Christmas.

We do French Cajun food to honor my grandmother the Matriarch of our family. Turkey & Sausage Gumbo, Shrimp Etouffee, crawfish jambalaya, rice, potato salad, fresh French bread, and New Orleans bread pudding. Everyone seems to be sick of turkey and dressing by then, so we went to that about 30 years ago and it stuck.

We have the French Toast Loaf (recipe from WDW Main Street Bakery) and fruit and mimosas on Christmas morning, and late in the afternoon my son will cook beef Wellington and potatoes and salad.

Since we do the turkey/stuffing at Thanksgiving, we decided a few years ago to do easy on Christmas so someone wasn't stuff doing dinner/dishes while everyone else was enjoying the day. I think I'm going to push for tacos again. Someone makes 2 lbs of seasoned hamburger in a crockpot, someone else does seasoned chicken, another person does the tomatoes/onions/lettuce/cheese/salsa/guac. I usually buy a pumpkin pie and those cheesecake bites. No one has mentioned anything as our family has been through a lot lately. My oldest daughter was in ICU for 5 days and regular for another 6 days, my grandkids are struggling with their mom during the divorce. Their mom has a new boyfriend she spends a lot of time with which doesn't go well with a 14 year old girl who feels left out so may be acting out some. To be realistic, I have no idea what we are doing.
