Hi, we leave in 6 days!!!!!!!!!! :Pinkbounc :earboy2:
Very excited. We haven't been to Disney during Christmas in 2 years!

I always love seeing people put lights on their balconeys so I was thinking I would bring some. How many of you out there has done this, especially at OKW?

Do I need to bring an extension cord as well? What kind of lights did you bring?

Thanks,

we bring two strands of lights indoor/outdoor lights and extention cord.

I actually pack them inside the tree box that i ship down to the resort for the Sharing alittle magic christmas tree for other dvc members to enjoy too.

i also like the lights on the balcony.

I think that is a neat idea! Enjoy your visit home!

We put lights up at the BWV last year. I really wish Disney would decorate all the balconies, as it would look awesome! ;)

Heres a pic, you can click to enlarge it:

Is there a plug out on the balcony or do you have to plug them in inside and leave the slider ajar a little?

We decorated our balcony at VWL and our First Floor Slider windows at SSR (used suction cup hooks).

It was neat to see our patio lit up as we arrived home.

I want to add, that you can still lock and secure your slider, if you position the string right.

We have done the balcony on 2BR and GV units at OKW and used at least 4 or 5 strings of lights as we had them across the rails and around the uprights. I think one tiime we used pipe cleaners and another those nylon ties as ell as some tape to keep them in place. I took an enxtension cord and think there may have been an outlet by the door to the master bedroom. In the area we were in the first year it was like a lighting campetition there were so many on the different units. Have fun and enjoy.

We have hung them on a GV at the BWV and a 1 bdr at the BCV. We did bring extension cords as they had to be plugged in inside at the BCV but I think we had an outlet at the GV. It was lots of fun to do and loved seeing them all lit up when we returned to our room.

OKW has an outlet on the porch. We just wrapped our lights around the railing and plugged them in with an extension cord.

This sounds like soooo much fun. I can't wait to see everyone's lights on the balconies at BWV. I thinking the airline won't let me bring lights and an extention cord in my carry on luggage. I'm not even going to try, I'll have to make a stop at the local Walgreens.

Anyone know if SSR has electrical outlets on the balcony/patio? Or is plugging the lights inside the only option?

Thanks!

Currently at OKW in Bld 55 with the lights up. Look for them as you take the ferry to Downtown. We also use a timer so they are not on all night. Yes there is an outlet on the poarch. I think it gives the resort a nice home feelng. Only have seen about 4 other units with lights up at this time so bring them on and lets make Jennings Osbourne jelous. LOL

Hi Scott! I will check out your lights - I do plan to take the boat to DTD.

Getting ready to put my lights out on the balcony today - got in late yesterday and was way too tired after running out to Walmart and food shop for this trip. I use a timer for the lights and found that net lights work well to go over the balcony sections.

If you are checking some luggage no problem - I took a Christmas tree and six boxes of lights plus the extension cord a couple of years ago. The Christmas tree is one of those that folds flat and then you just slide it up a pole and is basically coils of wire covered with vinyl stuff to look like the needles etc. I had to bend it a little to fit in one of those rolling duffle bags and did check it. I thought at the very least they would open the bag because of all the metal in it. It went right on through. They did check my carryon because I had two cameras, many batteries and three lanyards with pins- It was the lanyards with pins that confused them at the x-ray machine. I think they probably see a lot of Christmas lights go through
Will have to get to OKW for Christmas again as it is so much fun
with none of the stress of staying home.
Hope you have a marvelous time and happy decorating to all who are doing it this year.

Nope, all carry-on. But we are planning to go grocery shopping, so I think I'll pick up a set or two of lights. If anyone is arriving at BWV on the 23rd, I'll leave them in the laundry room for someone to claim.
