Direct, resale, or hybrid

Very hybrid (!) Our first purchase was direct, but after our first trip, we decided we'd bought the wrong resort, so "buy where you want to stay" meant selling all our points and buying there, which meant resale since DVC wasn't selling where we wanted to stay. Then we bought direct at a new resort (this time, after we stayed there-a resort DVC was selling) and about 5-10 years later, resale at a long-standing resort. This was an off-site resort that DVC may have been selling, but our points there were resale.
All our purchases were pre-2010, so we're grandfathered in to discounts.

Hybrid and glad we did it this way.
100 CCV resale (1 contract) to start. We lasted about a year before FOMO and the direct desire set in
150 Poly direct (3 contracts)
We may transition our CCV to direct at 150 at some point. We will see how the restricted resorts pan out and how much we want to stay there. We may just add 50 direct to get us to 150.

I thought it would be fun to see what type of owner everyone is. I asked this on another forum and it was fun to read about other members ownership type.
We are all resale now, but that darn FOMO and low point charts at CFW has us really considering direct. BUT man the savings with resale are soooo nice. For reference 75 at CCV and 150 at SSR.
we have 2 direct contacts and one resale at BWV even with the 2042 end of contract date was worth it, from Canada so exchange rate made it more expensive but still worth it for us

Hybrid
200 Riviera - direct (first contract). Did not really know about the resale market.
175 Grand Floridian - direct. Price was equal to or near resale price.
120 Animal Kingdom - resale. Price was half direct, I could not bring myself to pay double for direct points.

So where is your picture located at Olivia's :-)
I accidentally deleted Chuck's other response about purchasing direct, 1 contract and then 3 addons by 1996.

As far as picture's at OKW go I was in a friend's photo, but, later it was gone. They kept taking them down!

I'm all direct and my contracts were all so inexpensive that I'll never sell any even though the dues at Vero have gotten a little wild. I'm looking at the whole package and since my Vero purchase was so minimal, and we didn't pay closing back then, I think I'll still be ahead of the game until close to 2042.

All points direct purchased with discounts. (There were ways to do that back in the day.)

And @Chuck S is your picture tile still there? I don't actually come through or leave via that Epcot entrance. It was distressing when they sold the bricks at MK and then got rid of what was supposed to be buying a memory at Disney. I have a friend who participated in all the 'offers', brick, picture tile, pics at OKW, and founding member plaque at AK Jambo, but I never got into that stuff.

Now, I'm actually considering a resale again, so maybe I'll be hybrid in the future.

Yes, it is on the Leave A Legacy Wall, on the side farthest from the Bus Stops.

Blue card. I’m not going to acknowledge being deemed a hybrid lol

Bought small resale @ BWV to get our feet wet trying out DVC accommodations

Added on direct upon returning from trip, to flush out the BWV contract. @ same time, bought direct WLV

Took a bit to save up to buy a Resale @ AKV. said Mr was all in after our visit “home”. Made a pact, he knows me well. I agreed all future purchases were to continue to be cash only, no financing. Very glad we have rolled that way with DVC.

After the last kid finished college, bought another AKV resale that was still within grandfathered-in period.

I’ve never counted up % of direct & add on points. Adding on a new contract for BWV with different UY in ‘23 likely cements us into majority of resale points.

I think we are done, famous last words.

150 Old Key West 2057 direct
150 Aulani resale

I'll buy more direct if we ever see some real firesales again, which is how I got OKW(E) in the first place.

Also a hybrid. First purchase was a resale, then did two small direct contracts (30 and 25 points respectively), then another resale.

I'd never buy CFW due to the maintenance costs being sky high.
