(Christmas) Lights, Decorations, Action…..A Post-Christmas PTR (update 12/22-page 42)

I guess this is the 'other' hang out on the DIS....It has only taken me months to get over here. :rolleyes1

Sorry to hear you might have to go back early. I hope everything works out. :goodvibes

Great pics of Kidani!

I'm so sorry the ice messed up your trip. :sad2: I hope it works out.

We don't cancel for ice days here, but maybe when we get 10-12 inches of snow in one night. IKWYM about the hills, though - half of our town is built on steep hills - crazy sometimes. It is all relative - depends on what everyone is prepared for - if you don't get it often, most people don't have studded tires, etc. or don't know how to drive in it, which is dangerous for the buses. We don't salt here - illegal because it rusts the cars and runs in to the ocean- we have sand which doesn't melt the snow.

You had a planned vacation, can DW just call in a sub for that Monday? She has already had to do that some for big events and knows she will have to do it some more for DS21's Graduation in May, so I doubt she will want to push it this time around.

I love your past pictures! Cute ones of your boys in the Norway shop. Thanks!!!

How did you get a picture of the boy/girl at the Germany clock? I waited & waited for the top of the hour to see them & they never came out.
You were probably wearing something orange at the time. :rolleyes1 ;)

Actually, I really wasn't expecting it to happen. When I saw it I had to scramble and pull out the camera! If I remember correctly, I got that one picture right before they went back in!!!
I have afeeling this is gonna be a BAD winter !!!We have already been hit with a storm although nowhere near as bad as Buffalo!!By March I am sooo sick of winter and we usually don't see the end till April!! Although after March it isn't so constant !!
I have been watching the weather and all the early snowstorms. I think about all my northern buddies when that happens and hope you all aren't hit too hard!:) I agree about this winter being bad! It hasn't been this cold, this early, for this long that I can remember! Global warming I guess!!! :rotfl:
Great Update Marv !!!I thought you wanted me to Pole Dance the Eiffel Tower:rotfl2:That first "pole" looks doable !!!:rotfl2:
DS13 is hanging on there, but at the time he wasn't aware of the requisite pole dancing pose! :confused3 You would have to get your leg up pretty high for that one!!! :rolleyes1

:welcome: Tim!!! Glad you made it over! Still hoping they will change their minds about the makeup day!!! :worship:

We don't normally get very much of it around here, and definitely not enough to waste money on snow tires and things like that! Now, a couple of hours away in the NC mountains, when you get in the ski slope areas, it is a different story. And I probably said it wrong.......I think they normally use sand around here too when they put something out on the bridges!

Day 3 - MK and our Dinner ADR at Whispering Canyon Cafe

Heading out early on Day 3 for MK! Our first opportunity to make rope drop on our trip! Will we get there early enough to see this from the front of the line?
089-1.jpg

Trying to stay ahead of the crowds, goal number one will be a FP set for Space Mountain and hopefully a chance for a quick ride in the standby line. This will be our first chance to ride SM since the refurb. Next we will probably head over to do battle with
AKVKidaniStay164.jpg

on Buzz and see what kind of scores we can rack up!

After that I'm sure we will probably make sure we see Cap'n Jack Sparrow
175.jpg

and visit here to see if we can pick up some hitchhikers!!! :scared1:
283.jpg

What else will our plans include? If it continues to be so cold we will probably skip Splash Mountain, but BTMRR will be a must, and of course some of the rides in Fantasyland and our favorite :3dglasses show at Mickey's Philharmagic!!!

I'm sure we will probably take in some of the entertainment like
298.jpg

Probably see a few of these
114.jpg

And see how many sightings we can have of this guy!!!
AKVKidaniStay096.jpg

Planning to hit Cosmic Rays for some lunch before slowing down a little and enjoying all the Christmas decorations we see here
169.jpg

Then it will be time for a break from the park for a while so we can hop on the Monorail and check out how well adorned GF, Poly and the Contemporary are for Christmas. Soon it will be time to head back to the entrance to the MK so we can catch the boat for our ride over to Wilderness Lodge for our dinner ADR at the Whispering Canyon Cafe!!! We can't wait to see this resort as we have never visited it, and it is also supposed to be even more splendid at Christmastime!!! :santa:

After our dinner we will ride back over to the MK to use up any Fastpasses we collected earlier in the day and get ready to watch the MSEP and enjoy the fireworks over
180.jpg

This is the night they do the pre-Showing of the New Years display they will use the next evening. Hopefully the crowds will be much smaller than they are expected to be on New Year's Eve so we can make a quick escape and get ready for

Up Next - Day 4 at DHS

Great update, Marv. The plans for your MK day sound great. I love Cosmic Rays--one of my favorite counter service establishments. Be sure to say hi to Captain Jack for me. ;)

make sure you get the cheese steak sandwich at cosmic rays....mmmmmmmmm

You are almost doing the exact trip I did last year with a couple of girlfriends. I am not sure why it took me this long to notice it. :crazy2::laughing:

I hope the power of disgruntled parents works in your favor. With a couple of days to Winter break it would be silly to make the makeup day ( with lipstick and mascara :rotfl2:) on either end of that. I hear some schools in NC are using Dec 22 or 23. I have not confirmed this but it would be silly and almost impossible to get anyone to change travel plans at this point.

Storytellers in Norway and Germany I would put at the top of the list. Those 2 are really cute. Last year we caught France, UK, Italy, Mexico and China as well. All of them were well done but Norway and Germany has that little extra fun with it.

Just looked up Cabarrus County in NC and the make up is NOT Dec 22 but Jan 20. There is hope for you Marv!!!

ETA:
If you are tucked in the SC corner, then your district has announced it already and posted it on the website. :sad2: Chances of them changing it now, slim to none. Sorry dude

You need to decide if you are making the late night drive home or leaving a day early. I am not sure how many teachers will be able to change plans on such short notice. Since you are already on break who is going to check??? However the statement of " January 3rd is a scheduled make up day" makes me think the district is taking the we don't really care, they were warned attitude. I sure the administrators who do not teach will not be in the office.

Plans look good, I love taking a break in the afternoon from the MK to tour the monorail resorts. :thumbsup2
Thanks! We didn't get to do this the last trip around the holidays, and I've seen a lot of pictures of the Christmas decorations I can't wait to see and photograph for the first time!!! :woohoo:

Mmmm, that sounds really good! Thanks for the suggestion. :thumbsup2

The cold weather and holiday preparations have us ALL moving and thinking kinda slow! Better not try and do it with a couple of girlfriends though....or at least not post about it on the DIS!!! :rotfl:

Thanks, I'll try to make sure I definitely catch those two! :goodvibes

Doesn't look like it is going to change for sure, especially with everyone now off for the holidays, so I don't think there is anyone in the District Office to have to listen to any complaints!:rolleyes1
I sure the administrators who do not teach will not be in the office.
Probably correct on that one!
Now this one is definately Marv

deadsanta1.jpg
:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: Nice one Rosie!!!
Not sure how you came up with that one for Marv, Rosie?
I KNOW, right!!!??? :confused3 But then you've had the "pleasure" of stalking, uh, meeting me, so you would know the real story better than Rosie....... ;)
Marv, any news regarding the trip? Going with the "2 cars" plan?
2 car plan.....yes. But there may still be hope for no changes to our plans. We will just have to see how it works out.... :scratchin :ssst: :tiptoe:
Yes Glen I surprise myself at times !!:rotfl2:
Not sure how Rosie. You NEVER surprise us with your antics!!! :lmao:

Away pretty much all weekend, but we are almost completely done getting ready for Christmas now, so time to focus fully on being ready for our trip! Update on the way!!!

Day 4 - DHS

NOOOOO Way we would brave the crowds at the MK or Epcot on this day, so the goal is to head out early for
012-1.jpg

If we hung around the night before at MK for the NYE fireworks pre-show, will we be able to get everyone up and going soon enough to make....?
2009DisneyVacation009.jpg

First goal after heading into the park is to head straight for...
2009DisneyVacation016.jpg

and try to get fastpasses with an early return time since they go really fast!

After getting the FPs we will hopefully be early enough for a short enough wait to jump in the standby line and see.....
2009DisneyVacation014.jpg

On our last trip I learned that you can get a set of FPs for
308.jpg

separate from the other FPs in the park, no matter your return time for the set you already hold. If this is still the case :confused3 we will probably send someone to get FPs for that show before heading towards
2009DisneyVacation019.jpg

Before heading here though, we will make a left turn and head for one of my two favorite roller coasters at WDW.......the Rock'n Roller Coaster!!! :woohoo: If I had to choose I'm not sure if I would pick this one or Expedition Everest at AK. (Glad I don't have to pick just one and I can do them both!!!) If the standby line is short enough, we will hop in line there, otherwise we will probably all get in the Single Rider line. Hopefully we got our TSM FPs quick enough that we will be able to get RnR FPs when we exit for later in the day. Next stop is back to ToT and hopefully a quick ride there! I didn't use to do this ride, but now the more I ride it the better I like it!!! :thumbsup2

After all of that excitement it will be time to slow down a little. What will we do next? Will we have time for...???
2009DisneyVacation028.jpg

Or maybe a quick Hollywood experience on The Great Movie Ride? If the timing is right we may take a visit to watch Indiana Jones get in and out of trouble. popcorn:: Definitely have to look for that well this time and NOT pull the rope!!! Or do we have time to take a quick trip into outer space on the Star Tours ride??? This is a definite do for us this trip since it has been refurbed since we were last there!!! :cheer2:

Whatever we do, we will have to make sure we are on time for our lunch ADR at.....
2009DisneyVacation069-1.jpg

I didn't really plan to make an ADR at 50's this time, but it is a favorite of our DS's so I guess we will be doing it again! Definitely not a bad thing since we all have a good time here, especially since I am ALWAYS on my best behavior!!! ;)

After lunch we might head to the Backlot Tour! The temps might be rather cool while we are there. I wonder if anyone will be willing to volunteer for.........???
317.jpg

And???
319.jpg

:scared1:

Will it be too late to get another set of FPs for TSM by now or will we just be content to use what we already have? Not staying too late in the afternoon before heading to the Epcot resorts to check out the Christmas decorations there and get ready for our dinner ADR at Cape May Cafe for the seafood buffet. This will be another first for us. :yay:

After an early dinner we plan to head back to DHS. Will the crowds be large enough that they will close entry in the park? :confused3 I'm guessing we will be able to re-enter the park, and the main goal will be to once again experience the Osborne Family Festival of Lights!!!

Will we also take the time to see
354.jpg

and the NYE Fireworks???
048.jpg

Or will we just make it an early evening so we are ready for.........

Coming up - Day 5 at AK!

Love your Day 4 plans, Marv. I missed not being able to see Beauty & the Beast this trip. I'm not sure if it has reopened yet or not but, if it has, be sure to go see The Walt Disney Story.

I can't believe your trip is almost here. :)

One Man's Dream??? I almost used a picture from that in the update! It is one of my favorite places and it seems like every time I go in there I find something new. I guess if it has been closed it was undergoing a refurb, so maybe even more new stuff to see??? :woohoo:

Yep, one week from tomorrow we will be on the road!!! Make sure you and Rosie behave while I'm gone!!! :rolleyes1

I finally got to eat at Cape May. Enjoyed it too. :) Lots of seafood options and some option for those landlubbers.

Star Tours will slill be closed. Refurb until next May. :sad2:

One Man's Dream has reopened and things have changed! Bump that up on the list. :thumbsup2

I hope the makeup day does not screw up the plans too much.

I am excited that you only have 1 week. :woohoo:

Thanks for the feedback Pat! I guess we will have to wait until we return in June to catch the "new" Star Tours! Glad you liked Cape May. We are big seafood fans, so hopefully it will be a good night when we are there. :thumbsup2

Sorry I haven't posted much on your thread lately! I have been keeping up but real busy right now trying to get everything done for Christmas and ready to go for our trip, so not as much time as I would like to make comments on everyone's threads! :guilty: Will get over there and make some comments soon!

:woohoo: for only 8 more sleeps!!!

I have bascially finished trip #1 so I am moving on to the second trip which like I said was the same time last year.

Hi Marv, I really am enjoying your posts about your plans for the trip! It will be fun to compare your plans with your actual trip afterwards! And picture are always great to see! :goodvibes

Sorry that I haven't been around much, but I think we all are in the same situation at the moment... Just not enough hours in each day... :confused3
