I was walking the dogs with my family tonight and saw one of the neighbors on the other side of the block has Christmas lights up already! Does this strike anyone else as...well, just wrong? Personally, I like the orderly flow of holidays, no jumping. I mean, these people entirely skipped Halloween and Thanksgiving, don't these holidays deserve a little recognition?? I have half a mind to egg their house tomorrow night...

OK - are these lights just UP?...or are they lit too? Because, I can see if they're up - if he had help in putting them up (gotta take the help when you can get it!) or people in inclement weather - putting up before the first snowfall would be nice. BUT - if they're UP & LIT - ugh! Have people no respect for the other holidays?! (I don't "get" having trees up this early either....)

Wow........slow down!!!

My DH put our X-mas lights up last weekend because it was a nice day and he doesn't want to be up on our roof when it is 15 degrees outside. Just because we have our lights up doesn't mean we have them on. The lights get turned on the day after Thanksgiving.

Maybe you shouldn't be so quick to judge what people do to their own house.

I saw a house down the street with their lights up on Friday while I was driving home. I don't mind putting the lights up early, but this is too early for me. I'd wait until at least Halloween is over. I think that you can basically combine Thanksgiving and Christmas together for the decorations. I wouldn't have the big blow up of Santa and the snowman in the globe blown up, but I would put the odd light here and there. We usually put lights up the day after Thanksgiving, but we also put up the tree and have family over, it's just easier to put up lights a little earlier. We don't turn them on until after Thanksgiving though. I guess to each his/her own. Afterall, the Walmart here started putting their Christmas stuff up in August for goodness sake...talk about skipping the holidays..how about waiting for Labor day at least :) I just love Christmas and this time of year so much, I just want to keep the lights on as long as possible though.

I almost put mine up today. We had beautiful weather and I even said something to my DH about it. I just couldn't convince him to do it before Thanksgiving. Now when I'm ready to do it, it will be 20 degrees and sleeting! :cold:

We usually would put ours up about 2 week before XMAS>

Are you sure they are Christmas lights? I have lights on right now. They are purple and orange for Halloween.

I would put them up, just not light them up, if they are obviously for Christmas.
Many people with elaborate designs leave some of the lights strung up all year. Even should a lighting design be just the garden variety & you're my DSis & BIL, you leave them up all year 'round! :rotfl2:

If I needed assistance & the help was there, I'd make hay while the sun shined, just not turn on the lights.
It's true, as another poster observed, they could be Halloween lights. :flower:

I must admit I gave thought today of asking DH to put up our window wreathes! :goodvibes Just because it is a nice day & late November could be ice & snow & he needs to be on the extension ladder up 2 stories.

I really don't like the early decorations in the stores.
they are not there to give us a religious feeling, just to encourage mega spending. For me, seeing Christmas decorations before Thanksgiving--& seeing them out now!--just makes me astonished by the greed. but that's me & I'm the 1st to say I have a real Puritan streak! I can see how some would think they're pretty even in September!

We have people around here who do this and it is so annoying! Not the putting up...that doesn't bother me because as far as I'm concerned do it while the weather is still nice...its when they turn them all on like it's the 24th of December---drives me crazy!!

Wow. That's early! I can't stand seeing Christmas decorations before Thanksgiving...so definitely not before Halloween!

I think it depends on what part of the country you live in. It's so much nicer to put them up now on a sunny fall day than battling cold winds and snow.

My grandparents put up a tree (inside) today. They do a major Christmas village every year and they start super early so that it's up long enough to enjoy. The tree is a part of the village sort of (hard to explain) so it has to go up so that the work on the village can continue. Personally, the very thought is horrible to me...Although I have been getting in the mood for about a week now to decorate. I will hold off until somewhere near Thanksgiving before I do anything, and the tree will be after Thanksgiving. I totally understand hanging the lights early though-just not lighting them.

Actually, I have purple and orange lights up, too! (Also spider webs and bats and about 5 pumpkins)

No, these people definitely had the red and green going on.

Putting up, that's fine. I'll be doing mine right after Halloween because of the weather, but turning on should wait until at least closer to Thanksgiving

WOW! I must say I am shocked at the way people feel about this. I am quite the opposite. I LOVE Christmas and feel like most people wait TOO late to decorate. I hear people saying they do not put a tree up til the middle of December and then take it down a right after Christmas! Now THAT to me is crazy! What was the point? To me Christmas is the biggest Holiday of the year and putting up a tree for 2 weeks does not make any sense. Now this is just my opinion and I am not putting down anyone who does this but to me I could never do it. I will be decorating in about 2 weeks. No, I would never decorate before Halloween b/c I have Halloween and fall decorations up right now. I love decorating for Halloween. However when the 12th of November rolls around we will have our tree trimming party and decorate the house and it can not come soon enough for me.

My family is very into Christmas and we just love having things up well before Christmas. It is nice too to enjoy Thanksgiving together with the nice Christmas decorations all lit up. I guess it is just something we put so much work into that we can not see doing this only for a month or 2 weeks so ours stay up a good 6 weeks each year. I love it. I love people who are as into Christmas as we are.

I also LOVE that the store have Christmas things out early. We love to start getting into the spirit and talking about how great it will be and how we want to decorate for this year and all. It is just so much fun.

Soooo, I guess when we decorate I best not share pics til after Thanksgiving so I don't have people thinking I am crazy and don't acknowledge Thanksgiving. :confused3

I love Christmas and my decorations and I can't wait to get them up - but not until after Thanksgiving....I will do them the minute the pie is gone if I can.

I just love my fall stuff too -- I don't go too big with Halloween - but I have lots of fall colors, leaves, gourds, dried arrangements, scarcrows and then after Halloween I add the pilgrams and turkeys...

To every season turn turn turn (something like that :teeth: )

A house about a mile from us has up their x-mas lights, and they are lit. They are red and green with white bows. I even slowed down to look at them really good. I think it is too early to have them lit.

We have a nice little old couple that live on the road below me. They have had their lights on every night since last Christmas. Some nights we stand in our picture window and sing Christmas carols!! It was pretty amusing in the middle of summer!
