Christmas Lights BEFORE Halloween???

MY husband and I will start putting up our Christmas lights this Friday. It takes us about two weeks to get them all up (about 40 thousand this year). We will turn them all on at once, probably the Friday night before Thanksgiving. We make a big deal out of the lighting. All of our neighbors, who are also our friends, come and we have dinner and Christmas cookies. Then we all go outside to the street for turn on. (Everything is on breaker timers in the basement.) They all expect it and love it every year. It just takes so much work to get them up, we want to enjoy the fruits of our labor for as long as possible.

BTW, we usually start taking them down around Jan 1, which is very late here in the south. I have co-workers that take ALL of their decorations down on Christmas day!!

I am putting up all my indoor Christmas decorations the weekend before Thanksgiving. I will put the outside lights up too but won't light those until December 1st. I also won't put up the outside greenery until December 1. I do think even putting up unlit lights before Halloween is a little over the top but who cares.

I agree that putting them up this early is no big deal. The weather is nice and I'd rather see someone on their roof now than when there is snow and ice up there.

If you've ever put Christmas lights up on a 20 degree very windy day, it doesn't seem odd at all! (We've done that and never again!) :cold: Of course we don't turn them on until after Thanksgiving, just put them up.

We have a nice little old couple that live on the road below me. They have had their lights on every night since last Christmas. Some nights we stand in our picture window and sing Christmas carols!! It was pretty amusing in the middle of summer!

That actually could be quite romantic!

Think about it, maybe they feel that as they have gotten older they want to make every day feel like Christmas...so they keep those lights up and glowing...*sigh*...I hope DH and I still feel that romantic when we're that "nice little old couple" in the neighborhood! :)

We were walking by a house that was all lit up and DH commented that he couldn't believe people had Christmas lights up already. We all just looked at him and laughed-they were Halloween lights, ghosts, bats, etc. I think he needs new glasses :rotfl2: .

We put 3 of our trees up inside today. We always start on Halloween every year. It takes weeks of daily work to get the house together. We have 14 trees that are 3' or taller and dozens of smaller trees, in addition to the village, wreaths, etc, etc, etc....

We'll start putting up our stuff outside the week before Thankgiving, then start lighting them on Turkey Day. Any sooner and our HOA would have a fit! (Scrooges! LOL!)

We are decorated for Halloween now. Probably this weekend we will take down the Halloween decorations and start hanging Xmas lights while the weather is nice. We light them Thanksgiving night.
!
