Christmas ideas for Teen boys

Coming back to post what I gave for his birthday this week - he got the hover board (HUGE hit), a camping chair (pleased), a modifiable Nerf gun and the modifying parts (OK), and one of those big pillows with the arms for his bed [we called them husband pillows when I was in college; my daughter and her friends call them boyfriend pillows] (liked that better than I thought he would!) Pretty much everyone else gave him cash, which I know he appreciates as well, but which is not nearly as much fun to wrap.

DS17 asked for a new phone case. We like to get them (I also have ds15) rugged cases, so I got them each an otter box for 10% off at Target on Black Friday. Other than that, some t shirts (novelty ones and undershirt ones), snacks, ear buds so far. We celebrate Chanukah, Christmas and DS17’s birthday is next month so it’s hard to figure out what to buy. I ordered him Cards Against Humanity for his bday because I think it will be fun to take to college next year. Now that he’s driving, his brother will be getting his permit soon and they both have checking accounts, they go out a little more and I think cash will work just fine ;).

I am struggling this year. We celebrate both Hanukkah, Christmas and my oldest son's 18th birthday at the end of November. This is the first year I am planning to give mostly cash to my 18 yo and 16yo son.

We must be holiday soulmates :). Good luck!

Besides some stocking stuffer, my DS done and gifts are wrapped. He ended up with: a iPhone 8 to replace his 5, an new iPad To replace his very old hand-me-down, annual pass to Universal, PLayStation Plus subscription, a couple of PS4 games, a couple of new board games, Harry Potter Lootcrate 3 crate subscription and Harry Potter sheets for his bedroom. We just set-up a Google Home Mini that we had for a bit and he is loving it so I think I’ll be getting him one for his room for his stocking.

My 18 year old is getting
Apple Watch and charging stand
wireless earbuds
stuff for his car- change organizer, charger and cord, travel mug
Bluetooth thing for his car radio
Spotify subscription
tile tracker for his keys
PS4 game
shirts and a GC for pants

My 15 year old is getting
Beats headphones and charging stand
wireless waterproof speaker and case
earbuds (he likes the Apple ones so since dh got a new iphone this year and doesn't I'll wrap up the earbuds for ds ;))

What stand did you get for the Beats?

My teen boys (15 and 13) love Uniqlo (clothing store). Gift cards from there.

We got small LEGO sets, iPhone, gaming for the boys this year.

BOTH my boys birthdays are in January! So not sure what to get them, then. :P

Do they have any newish hobbies? My kids just had their birthday (13) on Friday and at first I really had NO clue. DS has taken an interest in clay and DD has taken an interest in Nail Art. I bought tool boxes and storage containers and then filled them up with the tools and stuff they’d need. They were a HUGE hit. Like they got brand new, upgraded iPads but these boxes I made are what have held their attention all weekend. Sometimes it’s the simplest things.

@Hikergirl thanks for the link!

Here are a few ideas for various age/sex/gender. Sorry for any poor formatting as I am typing on my phone.

For board game or card game fans:
  • Villainous - very fun board. Decent replayability. If they like games like Catan or Ticket to Ride this is a great option
  • King of Tokyo - this one has been around for a while, but is generally regarded as one of the better board games of recent memory, especially for more casual players. Great party game for anyone with even a passing board game interest.
  • Keyforge - new card game that game out from the same designer as Magic the Gathering (and King of Tokyo). It is very hot right now with starter kits and packs selling out regularly over the last few weeks as this just game out in mid-late Nov. The game is specifically designed to bot have the same super high cost of entry like other TCG. The linked starter kit would be good for someone who hasn't played a lot of card games in the past. If they play Yugioh, Magic, Cardfight Vanguard or play a lot of D&D then the starter kit probably isn't worth it and i would recommend just buying single packs. The are about $10 and your best bet for getting them is from a local game / comic store.
Video game fan:
  • Super Smash Bro. - if they have a Nintendo Swith and don't have this game it is a no brainer. This will be the buggest Switch game since Zelda. Probably the most popular video of the Christmas season by far.
  • Mario Party and Let's Go Pikachu / Eevee - both popular games for Nintendo Switch released in the last few months.
  • NES Classic - this was probably the hottest item around a couple years ago and it was impossible to get your hands on one. They are actually attainable now. Good for nostalgia or any general game fan.
  • SNES Classic - same concept as above but Super Nintendo games.
  • Playstation Classic - Sony copied Nintendo. This one is new this year. Very popular.
  • Professional gamer swag - if they like watching pro gamingh you can get them swag from their favorite teams. Linked is an example of North American team that recently made a spectaular run (falling in semi finals) at the League of Legends World Championship. If you know of a favorite team or player I would be more than happy to help direct you to the right place if anyone wanted.
For outdoors:
This is harder without knowing you location, but here are some general ideas that may help spark an idea.

  • Kayak tours (urban or wilderness) - i personally love Kayaking and had some great experiences. Linked are two fantastic options. In particular, I think urban kayaking gives a unique perspective. I have loved it every time i have done it.
  • Cave tours - cave tours are very cool (and safe). I linked Mammoth Cave National Park. Most caves notable caves have similar kinds of tours. State and National parks are a good place to start.
  • America the Beautiful Pass - park admission to all national parks and forests for a year.
For clothing and such:

  • Mickey's 90th Vans - i think these are amazing looking. Probably best for someone who doesn't mind standing with something a little more loud.
  • Tesla clothes - good for anyone into Tesla or in the Cult of Elon.
  • Nixon Mickey watches - these look great and i think the one linked here is "fun" but understated enough that it could be an a watch worn in a business casual environment.
Adult Beverages:

  • Heaven's Door whiskey - Bob Dylan started a line of whiskey. I can't speak for the quality of the drink (review), but great for any Dylan fan and the design of the bottles are amazing.
Other:

  • InstantPot - I think everyone knows about these by now, but this is something i wish i had in college. Cheap and easy and don't need a real kitchen. If they like to cook at all this might be decent to think about.
  • Raspberry Pi - if they are into building is programming these Pi are great. These are basically mini computers that can be used to build all sorts of stuff. Here are some examples
  • Escape Room Gift card - these are all over the place and very popular. Just google "escape room [your town]"
  • Brainteaser puzzles - linked example but you can find similar at your local target/walmart/etc.
  • Gallery1988 prints / art - they generally have fantastic designs from for various areas of pop culture. Even if you dont get anything now, check back again in the future.

So nice of you to put together such a great list! I think I will get my husband and BIL the whiskey and I just got King of Tokyo yesterday during Amazons big game sale.

When I was getting my gifts together I found something else I got for my teen boys that I forgot about.
It's the Mac & Cheese rapid cooker. It is just a container that lets you cook the kraft mac & cheese in the microwave. You can also do ramen noodles in it. I don't know about your boys but mine eat that stuff all the time and this way they don't have to cook it on the stove and make a mess LOL
It's kind of a gag gift, I make sure I get them some silly but useful things every year.
