Just a FYI, I'm the guy.
I can just blame it on my dad. heh.. She just met the parents for the first time very recently ( we are both away from home, and my parents came to visit ). She kept saying that I'm a lot like my dad.... and my dad is well known to go over the cap my parents set practically every year...soooooo...
Its more that she gave everyone a list of what she wanted. I was under the impression that the list was more aimed towards her roommates. The roommates were like "Heelllooooo dumb$^#, that list was for you too" so I ended up getting the more $$ stuff off the list. I also got one (the $14 item) that wasn't on the list that a roommate suggested that went along with something she got for her B-day.
Being an anti-get-everything-on-the-list and nothing "random and thoughtful" - I came up with another idea. The cap was imposed after the other stuff was bought, but before I had a chance to pick up the $25 item.
When the cap was imposed, I said "yeah, thats fine, I'm at or around the cap, so I'm OK with that." She's shopping for 5 roommates, and already shopped for a bunch of people back home, so thats why the cap was tossed in.
I was also thinking about just getting the $25 item, and tossing that into the mix during a Christmas dinner ( which due to work and schedules, won't be until after Christmas) and giving it then, since it is small....
