Christmas Disappointment

Ya know Hope, that's a great idea!! I think I will have to send him on a little hunt...has to be brief, as I have to work that day, but at least it would be something. OK, anyone got some good clue ideas? I'm terrible at stuff like that...

Last year I double and triple wrapped everything to disguise. Everything was games and books and music, and so easy to guess. I threw in nails and marbles, and stuff to rattle. So, we were unwrapping till 3pm, and the kids made me swear I'd never do that again :lmao:

I'm not all that great with clues either. Does DS take a foreign language in school? Maybe translate a clue into that language.

That is too bad the surprised has been ruined, especially on such a big, great gift as that.

Holly, what a good save. Smack DH upside the head.:rotfl2:

I am good with clues- we have done treasure hunts every Easter since I was little. When we were under reading age we would get picture clues that were puzzles to put together. Once we hit about 5th grade 9for me I was the oldest) we started making clues for each other. My parents had these spy books we could get clues from.

One good way to do a clue is to write it backwards so you have to go to a mirror to solve it. You can also use lemon juice as a disappearing ink (you heat activate it in order to see it (I am pretty sure that was what it was- I would have to check again to be sure).

You can use number and alphabet codes- morse code is also good. We used to have to search 4 places before we got our Easter basket.

My dad would make up cute little poems for the place to find the clue and then my mom would translate them into clues.

If you give me some areas you can hide things I can come up with some possible clues if you want.

Rebecca

You guys are great! Thanks so much for the ideas! This is my puzzle solving math geek kid, so those ideas are perfect...morse code, mirror, backwards writing, number alpha, great ideas for him!

Yes Rebecca, I will take you up on your offer. I'm just terrible with clues. I'll give it some thought, and come up with some places that would work.

Thanks again! I hope you guys know you all are the best! :teeth:

What a stinky situation - but I'm glad all the brilliant DISers have come up with a way to still make it fun on Christmas morning!

I would always try so hard to keep everything a surprise - when the girls were younger, I would never let them make a Christmas list - I wanted to come up with the stuff on my own so everything would be a surprise. I kept everything at my Dad's, wrapped everything there and didn't bring it over until Christmas Eve. Now that they're teenagers, the lists are essential and I do miss the element of surprise. I have 2 polar opposites though - DsD19 is such a sweetheart - she will scream with excitement for every present (even socks!) and cynical little DsD15 will guess every present before it's unwrapped (including other people's!) and then proclaim a smug little, "I knew it!" when of course she's right. I suppose they balance each other out.

Inside the washer and dryer make a good place- they are normally not run on Christmas morning.

Oh, Deb! I'm so sorry!!

Holly, I'm sorry to you, too! Both of those situations are stinky!!!

Deb, I'm glad the scavenger hunt will add lots of fun to Christmas morning--that sounds so cool!!
