When do the decorations go up, after Halloween or after Thanksgiving?

some resorts start in oct and all finish by thanksgiving. some parks similar but generally more fallish decorations so not really much change from sept/oct to christmas... mk switches a day or 2 after halloween but before the first mvmcp party 2 weeks later.. epcot is last changing over in time for thanksgiving (food and wine runs until mid nov so after that ends).

Just to fine tune that point a bit...
Traditionally (and this year,) MVMCP virtually always starts about a week after Halloween.
(Figure a date between Nov. 6-10.)

And yes, MK is fully decorated for Christmas by the first MVMCP date.

Thanks so much for the timely responses. Sounds like if I want to see decorations in parks and resorts it would be best to wait until after Thanksgiving.

Yes, or at least the weekend prior to Thanksgiving.
While the gingerbread buildings start well before the actual decorations do not go up at the Resorts till the week leading up to the weekend before Thanksgiving. They do 1 per night so the last one is done that weekend before Thanksgiving. They do the entire resort during the overnight hours. The parks will be done before this, with MK getting finished the earliest so it's ready for the first Christmas Party.

Ah, ok. Do you know typically how far in advance they make that known?

Not announced until only a couple of weeks in advance (and even then, not generally announced to the "public.")

To find out, keep checking this board as the days go by.

Will do thank you. I was just concerned if they were going to be taping during the week we were there, how that would effect our visit to MK. I certainly can change things around as the time gets closer.

Your MK day wouldn't largely be negatively affected if they WERE taping.

Main St. can be very busy, but they now have a nice-looking "Backstage Path" that will by-pass Main St. (see maps below)
and beyond Main St. and (sometimes) the Hub, the rides in the rest of MK will be virtually unaffected until after about 2:30PM.

Ohhh that's helpful! Thank you for that. However if the crowds at MK are not heavily impacted by the taping, I'd love to be in the audience!

The crowds that you SEE in the parade show are mostly WDW Cast Members and their families.
"Regular guests" can often be allowed to watch, also (and some might be seen in some shots.)

However, what you see as a continuous show on the broadcast is actually many hours of "over-and-over"
takes of the same scenes. Many guests get bored before long and wander off.
That's one of the reasons they use Cast Members as the principle spectators.
